Update! At 4:51 I said to use 1 1/4" long screws into the studs, but it should be a screw at least 1 3/4" long or 2" long.
as soon as i heard you say the length, i knew you were wrong. good update!
Not a “ this is how I would do it” just a tip but you got it’ 🙂
If bracket board is 3/4” add drywall usually 5/8 but could be 1/2” so you need 1 1/2” just to get to the stud then u want an inch in the stud
So 2 1/2” to 2 3/4” screws would be perfect
If your bracket boards are 1/2”
Use 2” screw hope that helps someone out 😊
I have been searching high and low for this exact pantry solution! Thank you so much for this....
You're welcome, I'm glad this helped.
LOVE the stained wood and painted white trim combo! Very beautiful!
Thank you so much!
Great job Angela! The only thing remains to be seen is your pantry re-stocked on your new shelves! Thank you for sharing!!
Thank you Susan!! Yes! I am working on that now and hope to share the final pantry reveal this week :)
What type of wood did you use for the shelves itself? I could not find the answer in your tutorial. Thank you so much for your wonderful tutorial!
Beautiful results. Love it.
Thank you!
This is awesome. I will be doing this in my linen closets. Thanks does this. You kept it super simple. Glad I found this. I am excited to try this. I’m not brave to do it myself but I will definitely be showing my husband this video lol.💖
Thank you!! I love the idea of doing it for linen closets! I may need to do that too! :)
If you remove the pins first, the holes are much smaller. The pin expands drywall anchors.
I couldn’t get mine out, so I just yanked them out and repaired lol. I was going to be filling with compound anyway
Beautiful, simple shelves.
Thank you!
Thank you for this! I'm about to close on my first house and all the shelving throughout the house (closets and pantry) have that awful wire shelving! It's easier than I thought it would be to do my own custom shelves. The stain is perfect, too :)
Thank you!!! I am so over wire shelving too😂😂
Love it! Thank you for giving me the great idea to change a closet into a pantry!
Yesss, that's a great idea!!
Thank you so much for this video. I made these shelves and my gf loves them. Gave our kitchen a great new look
That is awesome, I'm sure it made a huge difference in the space!! Thank you!

This looks amazing! Really great job!!...im tired of my pantry looking a hot mess. I wanna do this
Thank you so much!!! You should definitely give it a try!!!!
Well done. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Our house came with that awful Rubbermaid wire shelving too. I already tore it out of our hall closet, and was looking for inspiration for our pantry. Thanks to you, I have what I need - thanks!
Awesome!! The wooden shelves make such a big difference!
@@AngelaMarieMade the project hit an unexpected snag - my wife and I are unable to agree on stained boards vs white boards. So we are left with Rubbermaid wire until one of us concedes
Very nice job 👍
Thank you!
Thanks great video
You're welcome, I am glad you enjoyed it!!
Thanks for posting this video....followed your directions and just finished the shelves in our pantry closet...looks great! Few lessons learned on my side....my walls were not square...had to cut the shelves longer in the front by 1". One side wall had no studs...had to use wall anchors. My pantry was fairly deep so I used pre-glued project boards...think I got them at Lowes. The dark shelves make the closet dark...looking at putting in some lights.....
Wow, that is awesome. I'm glad to hear that you learned some things, I'm always running into little issues on projects that I need to find work arounds!!
Wireless motion sensor Ed lights on Amazon are perfect
Just did mine. Thanks for making it simple
Stupid. Mine turned out awesome. Wish I could post pics to show you.
That's amazing, thank you for sharing!!
Love this so much; thank you!! 1:51
Thank you!!
Better than most finish contractors. 👌
Thank you so much!!!
Good idea young lady. I really like the way those shelves look. Good combination of paint and stain looks nice.
Thank you, much appreciated!
Very nice ❤️
Thanks!
effective and efficient also gorgeous to look at make ya feel good when you don't want to cook lol
Hi. Thanks. My pantry is exactly as yours. And I will do the same.
Awesome, glad to hear it!!
love this! i have to try it. Are the trim boards optional or necessary?
Thank you so much! The trim boards are totally optional.
Is the 1x2 front trim still face frame if it is mounted underneath? Surprisingly, I’ve been unable to find an undermounted trim under the front edge of any shelving project anywhere? Was this your own idea or can you share your source for this style of trim?
Angela I'm getting ready to do this. I want to suprise my husband while he's in quarantine 😂 Unfortunately I don't know anything about a Brad nailer 😫
Brad nailer's are a pretty straightforward tool but I understand if you are hesitant to use one. You could complete the project with screws instead if you have enough studs to drill into.
Wire shelving is the worst. This was so well done and thought out, I had to question if I was still on youtube.
I agree 100% about the wire shelving, thank you!
How much weight will support each shelves ?
What type of wood did you use for the 1x12's? Poplar? Pine?
1x12 pine from the home improvement store
Does Lowe’s actually sell pantry boards or did you cut down some other wood? Thx for the vid!
They do not that I know of, we used 1 x 12's and cut them to size. Thank you!
Is there a whole white board under the entire wood board? Or it just a frame in the front similar to the support frames on the wall?
It's framed out like the supports on the wall
Question. Would I be able to add the white trim to the top of the shelf vs the bottom (as you’ve done in your video) that way I can have a “lip” on the end of the shelf and it can somewhat stop stuff from falling over?
Also, I love you explain every single thing. It makes it easy to follow and I feel like it will inspire someone who isn’t comfortable with doing big wood projects. You’re amazing
Thank you so much!!! I'm so glad it's helpful and easy to follow! You can definitely do the white trim on the top for a "lip". That's a great idea! I would just do the nails from the underneath side instead. Also, if you want a shorter lip than a 1x2 (which is 1.5"), you could use square dowels which come in multiple sizes (like 3/4" or 1").
What type of wood did you use for the actual shelf you stained? I dont see that listed anywhere.
I used pine wood for the 1 x 12 shelves.
1-1/4" screws seem a little short do they not? that leaves only 1/4" of the screw going into the drywall and likely not into the stud at all
Thanks for catching that! I said that wrong, and the screws should be at least 1 3/4" or 2"
Hey I have a question... at about 6:19 you didn’t show how you attached the front 1x2’s... because of its awkward position I’m wondering how you screwed the front 1x2’s in?
We secured them with brad nails from the top of the shelf.
Did you have trouble nailing the top shelf or was there enough clearance? I was just measuring out my ideas for shelf gaps and realize that I might not have enough clearance for a smaller gap between shelves when I get towards the top. Maybe I can rearrange the smaller gap towards the middle to overcome.
We had plenty of clearance above our top shelf. I think you have the right idea with adjusting the middle measurements to make sure you have enough space at the top.
Where can I find some pre-painted or stained boards?
If you have a Lowe's or Home Depot near you that would be my first recommendation, but also a local lumber store might be a good place to look as well.
Hello! What kind of nails and screws did you use?
I used 1 1/4" brad nails (18 gauge) and 1 1/4" drywall screws
Hi Angela!! Can you link the product or name the lowes product for the wood you were using? I am doing a pantry and would love to know.
I have a full material list and links on my blog:
angelamariemade.com/diy-pantry-shelves/
What wood did you use for the shelves? And what thickness?
I used a 1×12 @ 8ft for the shelves and a 1x2 to trim it out. I have the cut list and all the details on my blog: angelamariemade.com/diy-pantry-shelves/
What sandpaper grit did you sand shelves with?
I sanded with 80, 120 & 220 and that is basically our process for any piece that we are staining or painting.
What is the purpose of the front trom panel, for looks or added support?
Exactly and it helps hide the underneath of the shelves!
Great video. What type of stain and polyurethane was used? Semi gloss or satin?
Thanks! I used Minwax provincial and Minwax fast drying poly
@@AngelaMarieMade thanks for the response! Do you know if the poly was semi gloss or satin?
@@KevinKelani Sure! I used satin.
Have you had any problems with the stain smell lingering since it's in an enclosed space?
@@adammoore2868 no I haven't. I let the shelves sit in my garage for a day or so before installing. I also left the pantry door open and windows in the area open to air it out.
If you attach the front trim to the other strips it would give more support. Then add the shelf.
Thanks for the tip!
1x12 board what kind of wood? MDF, plywood?
Knotty pine wood
I don’t think I have studs to do this project. Can I just do it on dry wall. Please suggest.
I think you could do it using wall anchors or toggle bolts as long as it meets the weight requirements.
What type/size board did you use for shelves?
I have a full material list on my blog post here: angelamariemade.com/diy-pantry-shelves/
Is the front edge decorative or can I leave it off?
You can leave it off.
what was the name of the stain color you used for the shelves
Provincial
Is using a circular saw will give me a straight edge or should I use a miter saw?
If you use the circular saw with a straight edge guide then it will be a perfect straight edge cut. You can use a miter saw too for a straight edge cut as long as the miter saw can cut the width of the board you need. For example, my 1x12 boards would have needed to be cut with a sliding miter saw in order to make a wide enough cut.
Angela Marie Made 🙏
What happened to the follow-up video on organizing it?
You can find it here: czcams.com/video/Fi6JETLikR4/video.html
What type of wood did you use?
I used pine.
Major visual upgrade but ever wish you could still see through the wires? Was thinking you’d lose ability to see the back of lower and higher shelves.
I haven't! The shelves aren't deep so it's easy for me to still see!
What kind of wood are you using and what thickness
Pine wood that is 3/4" thick
@@AngelaMarieMade Thank you
What was the thickness of the shelving
3/4"
I missed the comment you listed supplies and directions.
They are linked above in the description box (under the drop down arrow). Also, you can see them here: angelamariemade.com/diy-pantry-shelves/
I plan on building one for my room for collectibles to go on, You seem to have small fingers and hands and boy look at you go lol, Awesome job dear looks great as it is, Mind sharing the cost of the build with us?? Thank You
Thank you very much. The total cost of the materials was around $50.
Can you say what type of nails you used?
I have the full material list here: angelamariemade.com/diy-pantry-shelves/
Curious what the width of your door is...
18" wide
It's a decent idea, but I'm curious to see how this holds up over time. I feel like lag bolts would have been a significantly better choice than deck screws to bear the weight this will undoubtedly end up holding, especially the portions attached to the ceiling. It also seems like the amount of potential load being applied to the ceiling is more than what the engineering of these shelves will ultimately hold over time. I'm certainly not an engineer or expert on the matter, but it doesn't completely pass the eye test for me. 5:53
It has been holding up great and is very sturdy. There isn't anything attached to the ceiling...
99% of closets have the same or less support for a much longer shelf. It is more than enough support. You could easily sit on these shelves.
I don’t understand how you’re attaching the boards to the wall
I attached 1x2's to the wall studs, you can see a more detailed tutorial on my blog here: angelamariemade.com/diy-pantry-shelves/
lol, your pantry was pretty tidy to start with. nice job tho.
Save yourself time, find the studs first, mark the so when the support wood goes up you can see the stud marks and put your screws in. No sense doing twice the work here
This makes no sense to me. If you had left the anchors in you could have simply used them to screw the new supports in. No you have multiple steps for no reason
It looks like she wanted them in the studs instead of the drywall, which would probably be a little more secure than having drywall anchors.
Not judging, but I think constantly trying to smile while talking (a uniquely American affect) detracts from one's clarity of speech. I call it SororitySpeak.
why do you talk like that?
There was nothing wrong with your pantry. Your organisational skills need to be honed though ☺
Quick easy access to many projects with Stodoys plans.
What kind of wood did you use?
Pine
