  • On top of the most famous mountain massif of the Zittau Mountains in Upper Lusatia the fascinating ruins of the Oybin castle and monastery (bit.ly/3ClLrhf) rise. Emperor Charles IV built an imperial house and a monastery for the Chölestine Order in the 14th century. With the Reformation, monastic life ended - and nature reclaimed Oybin. Romantic painters such as Caspar David Friedrich and Carl Gustav Carus made the picturesque ruins world famous.
Today, the unique ensemble of architecture and nature is one of the most popular destinations in the border triangle. From Zittau you can reach it in about 50 minutes with the Zittau narrow gauge - a very special experience for young and old railroad enthusiasts.
