    The HM-DH5U, which is a very similar model is one of a few of the D-Theater players with HDMI output. To be honest, because it's only 1080i there wouldn't be a difference anyway between HDMI and component, but it boggles my mind that there are VHS players with HDMI outputs - and HDMI upconverting for regular VHS tapes!

    @Celiecinema1 DVHS player's use the same physical cassette format and recording mechanism as S-VHS (but need higher quality and more expensive tapes), and is capable of recording and displaying both standard definition and high definition content. The answer is 'both', you can use the more expensive DVHS tapes which are more durable, or you can use the cheaper SVHS tapes for recording.

    I wonder how many returns occurred over people not realizing they spent like $30 on a tape they couldn't watch without a special machine?

    @Celiecinema1 There's not enough bandwidth to do that. Digital audio is possible, however. See the PCM1610 processor from Sony.

    What were the trailers on this cassette, if any? And was there a warning screen anywhere between the D-Theater and Universal logos?

    @Celiecinema1 I've heard they don't.

  • @knocknockearth
    @knocknockearth Před 11 lety

    These units produce 1080i through the components in back. My HM-DH40000 I had hooked through a computer via the back port firewire and the picture output I found was surprisingly ugly and pasty! Firewire seemed to only by digital enhancer thus woefully degrading vhs resolutions. IMO Anyways,DVHS format is very sensitive to tape wear.. this glitch is probably why they didn't stay around longer than they did.

  • @TVperson1
    @TVperson1 Před 12 lety

    No timecode, most decks only record the stream from the digital ATSC signal like a hard-disk but linear from a digital receiver with firewire, they couldn't use DV or record analog on digital tape. The later JVC decks included HD movies with Dtheater and had mpeg2 encoders for recording from analog or DV tape. The machines with out the i-link standard can only talk to XP computers. None of the machines can play analog tape into the PC.

    the D-VHS was only for a small Freaky market - never see this System like VHS or the later S-VHS on the Austrian (Europe) market! Also no D-VHS are in the Videostore available here. No D-VHS Tapes are on the Market here during this time the VCD and teh VCD2 will be on the Market then came the DVD in the mid of teh 90's Tapes since this time death.
    Today 2015 i must thinkk about a Videosource for future use and if i buy a BD with a 3D functionlaity i'm not sure is this the future? For example with my HD-Satellitebox i can also recorde Films in a very high Quality.

  • @TVperson1
    @TVperson1 Před 12 lety

    Without i-link it can handle up to 28.2Mb/s, with ilink on it can only do 19Mb/s as the machine likes to insert a lower quality version of the video for rewind and FF when you use the built in encoders.

    It doesn't work that way, a Blu-ray or HD DVD player can't play a tape and vice versa. If you want to play a particular video/audio format with great results, you go with a solid player that's built for that format and newer "better" formats don't hurt the value of quality legacy format players.

  • @Clesarie

    Im just saying its really not that great of a collectable format. Something like Laserdisc or beta max are still more noval for collecting. Theres only like 70 movies on dtheater
