    I’m glad you noticed the music. The scene where he is under the water with the blood on his mouth was so very Jaws to me. With that music in the background, you know by that point he’s the predator in this movie. He’s to rip them apart just from his own bloodlust for Felix.

      omg i love that analogy the scene with his mouth covered in the tub was really like jaws. he went from this timid character flinching at Felix to becoming a predator

    Yes Oliver was off his rocker but the family wasn’t any better. Felix was nice but he was using him like last years one. Venetia was looking for attention from anyone and when he passed her up she got mad and just let it go because she couldn’t one up her brother. Farly was scared Oliver could one up him and get him kicked out. Which he eventually did. Mom was so out of touch with reality it was easy to manipulate her. Dad figured it out to late. I love this movie’s complexity. Oliver is no hero but the way he got everything was literally a master class in Manipulation and waiting the long game.

      completely the family was not innocent at all. Felix and Venectia were using him like a toy they were fighting over. but i was discussing with someone else and I do feel a bit sorry for the kids because you can tell their parents really lacked when it came to emotions. Also the mom wouldve ended up treating oliver the same way she did pamela. I love this movie too, the cinematography, the actors, like you said the complexity

    It was only 2 hours long. 3 hours is a long movie. I keep checking the time after 2.5 hours.

      I feel like the standard movie used to be 1 hour 40 minutes. Now every movie is over 2 hours. I don’t think i ever watched a movie that was 2.5 if I’m being honest

      @STARISMID  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Okay after doing research the average movie is about 120 mins give or take. I guess I’m used to not paying attention or being able to pause and walk away lol. But yeah I don’t think I ever watched a movie that was longer than 2.5

    Watching your reaction, I appreciate you asking if it’s ignorant seeing the Oxford dinner room reminding you of Harry Potter.
    This same type of architecture is easily accessible in parts of Canada. A more tropical version is even in some parts of the Caribbean. I would think some of this is available in the US?
    Granted, I grew up going to huge church that is stone gothic architecture with pipes for the church organ built in. *shrugs*
    I appreciate how you clocked how the fashion looks 70s but it’s actually the early 2000s. I was so annoyed at the time seeing boomers regurgitate just about everything from their youth culture and sold it to us.
    Yes, I know things come back in style, and it’s great when some vintage stuff can come back, but sheesh, there were far more stylish times then the 70s. 🤮
    You are so right about the field scene. They are all related! 😮
    I find Felix really enjoys showing people a life he knows they can never ever get.
    Excellent reaction. I have subscribed.

      lol yeah i had to ask. most gothic style churches in the US i feel like are reserved for major cities. although I have been in one it didnt have the same feel at all. Also im sure its the same for most universities but my dinning hall did not look like that lol (so dimly lit)
      also yes im not too sure how I clocked it but its funny because right now the early 2000s fashion is back lol yes 70s in not my favorite but im seeing a resurgence in like 2010 fashion and when i tell you if i see people wearing galaxy leggings i might loose it ..
      i think felix really was genuine and wanted to show ollie his word but hes so naive for that lol. its always a risk letting people into your world
      ALSO TYSM!

      @@STARISMID I am not as kind to Felix.
      I started to get it the first time when he told Oliver that they had to share a bathroom or else Oliver would be on the other side of Saltburn. The real house that Saltburn is based on has 127 rooms. There are extra bathrooms much closer. I feel like it was a flimsy excuse to tease Oliver, with that “accidentally” unlocked bathroom door.
      It blew up in Felix’s face though.
      I feel so sorry for Venetia. If her parents actually recognized that her promiscuity and bulimia was a sign she needed help, maybe she wouldn’t have been completely broken and suicidal when Felix died.
      I really liked how you pointed out that when rich parents don’t look after their children it’s seen as fine, yet when poor parents don’t do it, it’s frown upon.
      Venetia had Oliver pegged perfectly when they were in the bathroom. He tried to distract her with sex, but that didn’t work. So she had to die. She wasn’t leaving that bathtub. :(
      I feel like both Sir James and Lady Elspeth felt guilt over not getting Venetia treatment ever since her death.

    • @STARISMID
      @STARISMID  Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@LadyScaper omg definitely, it was so strange to be doing “you know” knowing you’re sharing the bathroom with a guest and you have the door open. So 100% intentional. Also kind of like you said he likes to show people a lifestyle they’d never have hence he Oliver was not the 1st.
      Also yea. I first I thought Oliver did it, but I truly feel it was all to much for her. And when sir James talked about not having feelings you just know the parents brushed off their children’s feelings. Yeah she new he was a snake. I feel like he wanted her but then realized she wasn’t falling for it he went for her mother

    • @LadyScaper
      @LadyScaper Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@STARISMID I also realized that Venetia major problems paired together (promiscuity at a young age and bulimia) usually are signs that someone was being sexually abused as a child. Venetia even complains how one of the Henrys molest her when they come over for dinner and everyone pretends she is joking. She isn’t.
      There was no way that poor girl could endure much more horribleness. Being a sole heir to Saltburn would definitely be worse for her.
      Several people figured out Oliver but they just seemed utterly helpless to actually do anything about him. Venetia most of all.
      I can only imagine the poor staff seeing it all and being helpless (a gardener sarcastically waves goodbye to Oliver when he is escorted out).
      About architecture, the main clubhouse for the University of Toronto, looks exactly like many of the rooms in the Oxford scenes in the film. That’s just the clubhouse.
      In the town next my hometown there is a girls boarding school called Trafalgar Castle school. It legit looks like old British architecture.

      @@LadyScaper yes, it was so strange that the family just brushed over it and then the mom just made a joke about it.. also I can imagine how the staff feels, especially the butler you can tell he was really protective of the family so to watch what was happening to them. When I tell you the US is so modern no architecture dates back really far
