Anytime, 🤣
Thanks for this video; very helpful. I think that I read online that Jeep switched the negative cable for the auxiliary battery some time in 2021. In earlier JL Wranglers, the ground cable for the aux battery was the one closest to the passenger side fender. After 2021 (not sure exactly when the switch was made), the aux negative was on the driver's side.
Thanks for that information.
I had my 2023 Jeep Gladiator got full dead a few days ago. I'd had it 3 months and it only had 2100 miles on it. The dealership had to replace both batteries. I'm going to do just this. I already have a Tazer Mini to keep the ESS in whatever state I leave it in. I mentioned that a lot of people are doing this trick so they can restore it if they have to go to the dealership to one of the service office guys. We agreed that he never heard a thing, but it's a good thing to know. Since I have an extended warranty and a few free oil changes, I'll be using the dealership. The folks in the service office are very well aware of the aux battery killing both batteries. When I called I just said, "It's that aux battery killing..." And got a, "We understand. We'll get it right in." I liked the ESS on my 2021 RAM 1500 with the e-hybrid system. But that had a separate 48V battery for that small electric motor, charged as it went, and spun up from the e-hybrid motor. Not from the regular starter with that stupid aux battery system.
Bro thank you for posting, Saved me a lot of time and money. My truck is up and running.
Anytime, give me a like and subscribe to help a brother out 😁
Works great! I added an auto stop eliminator cable cause I dont need the tazer and still gives me the option to turn the ESS back on if I want to. Works perfect. This is an important fix because apparently there is not an isolator between the main battery and the ESS battery, that is why the main goes dead also the ESS kills it, also why you cant jump it. THANKS for this video DtoyJeep, I seriously appreciate it.
Anytime, glad I was able to help. Please like, share and subscribe.
Update
So today for the first time, the Avengers symbol came on, after I shut the jeep off it didnt come back on yet but this is the first time in over 2 months.
Update 5/27/24 still working great, only the one time did it ever give me the avengers symbol, much like everything else on jeeps it comes and goes lol but still working great!
I did this same exact process and after a few hundred miles I started receiving service shifter, service transmission etc and it would clear as I drove however one day I couldn’t start it. I got power inside but wouldn’t turn because of all those error messages along with auto not in park. I reversed everything to stock and boom it fired right up! Jeeps are so damn weird and pain in the ass but I love my rig. I have a 2021 Mojave
it's the tazer that's remembering your last "Auto-Stop" state,, not the fuse or aux neg cable removal
So if you don’t have the Tazer or auto stop eliminator you still have to push the A Button to disable ESS…but the Aux battery won’t be involved anymore. Dumb design.
This is so good , bypassing ,working good
Is it that simple? AMAZING, thanks. Will be doing that soon and I just subbed to your channel.

I bypassed mine and got a yellow top main battery and it’s run great ever since
Hi great video. Any issues since the removal of the cable ?
No issues at all, thanks for asking.
Had a no start situation yesterday. Replaced the main with an Oddysey and had a bunch of weird dash activity afterwards. Service shifter, CEL etc. bypassed the AUX and everything is gone but the engine light. Have you run into that? Cheers
I haven't had that issue, but others on here have. What was advised is to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes, reconnect it and if it's still on, drive it for at least 24 hours to see if it turns off.
Everyone who had this issue has never returned to say that the process didn't work.
My aux battery died 2 years ago and that stupid ESS system hasn’t worked since. Didn’t have to do anything. So far so good. I replaced the crap factory main battery in 2021 and it’s still going strong. Went with Interstate. Never had luck with Wal mart, big 3 parts stores, and especially die hard batteries.
I upgraded my radio to the Stinger HEIGH10. I wanted a bigger screen. It also has a feature to disable the auto start stop in the menu settings.
That's great, I'm thinking about purchasing that radio also
Have a question, maybe you or someone can help... i bought a 2020 willys in may, had 33k miles. Last night it wont start, but everything else works dash lights radio everything... i jumped it off an it started but as soon as u put in gear it dies... does this possibly sound like it could be the Aux batter?
That sounds like the aux battery to me. Take the main battery to auto zone and have them fully charge it. you might have a drain aux battery also.
Great info thx!

Hey guys. We've had an issue with our ESS when it would go to start back up, the Gladiator goes haywire. The first time luckily it was in a parking lot, the relay ended up getting fried. Then last week it happened starting back up in an intersection (luckily not in the middle) and it ended up frying a main fuse. Both relay and fuse had something to do with the ESS. Dash starts displaying strange messages, auto park won't release, can't even power everything off. We're looking at switching everything to a dual battery set up, getting rid of the tiny aux,, but I've just done this "fix." So far so good. The light stays on or off, depending on whether I push it or not, so hopefully it's disconnected fully (fuse and cable are removed). But starts up fine, drives fine, voltage is around 13v. I know lots have posted this, but thanks for the tip. :)

So if I were to take the aux battery completely out, do I need to reconnect the top negative cable you removed in the video and just
tape off the negative cable that came off the aux battery and connect the positive cable that came off the Aux to the main? Or do i need to tape off both negative cables coming for aux?
If your jeep is still under warranty I would not remove the aux battery. If the warranty is expired and you want to remove the aux that would be fine, connect the neg back up to and tape off the bottom neg. And tape off the bottom positive
Thanks. My jeep is out of warranty. Wanted to remove the aux battery completely. Wouldn’t it be best just to leave both aux negative cables disconnected and taped or is there a reason for one end to be connected? I haven’t seen any videos of someone removing the aux completely
@@elbadboylopez I would connect the top negative, that's just me, looks cleaner 🤣
🤯. Too good to be true , is it that simple? Thanks. I'm going to try this
I just pulled the fuse and disconnected the negative wire with the stud, on my 2021 Rubicon, no issues so far. I also installed a new amg h7 battery too
Sounds good, mine is still running strong.
Wow Great Job honestly you are truly inspiring the way you aren’t worried to tackle all this things yourself Mi Hermanito bravo great job !!!
So did you Not pull the auxiliary battery? You just pulled the 10 amp fuse and disconnected the terminal?
Thats correct, I did not pull the aux battery out because my jeep is still under warrant and if I have to take it back for some reason I/ want to make sure they wont void it.
Battery cable pull and the fuse pull just pulls the battery from the computer system, keeps the system from throwing a code and pushing a Battery light on your dashboard. The system still works, but take that auxiliary battery off line where it will not drain your main battery. Basically turns your Jeep into a 1 battery vehicle. You can go further and remove the battery completely and tape up the ends or fish them out and remove. I added a Auto Start/Stop Eliminator under the dash and it holds the last input to the dash button.
Once you attach the auto start/stop eliminator under the dash, is there a need to replace the 2nd battery?
No need, that battery can just stay there.
Im having a service shifter light on my dash. Won't allow me to shift out of park. Anyone know if it's AUX batt issues?
That sounds like the dash harness might have some bad plugs, wiggle the plugs and see if that helps, if so you might have to replace the whole harness.
Thanks for uploading this video.
I got stranded today and I did what you did in the video.. no more shut down vehicle warning but still it shows check engine light on.
Yours did not.. mine is 2018 jlu
I have read from others that the light will go out after a couple of days
Thanks for posting this. What year model is your Jeep? I think they flipped the location of battery cables during the ‘21 model year. The skinny one is supposed to be the aux negative terminal.
My keep is a 2022, your right, of you watch the video I keep the fat one installed thinking that was the one but then it didn't start so, I swap them and it started. By the way the jeep has been running without any issues since I did this video. Subscribe for more fun videos
I also have a’22. Was planning on waiting until warranty expired and then doing this modification also. Are you planning on letting the auxiliary battery sit in there disconnected long term or will you remove it sometime? I was thinking about just leaving mine in there. I don’t think it would harm anything.
@@banjoshad you can do it now, if you need to take it in just put the fuse back in and connect the battery cable. I'm leaving the battery in because if you remove it the you have to find were your going to connect the cables. It's not going to hurt anything.
@@FAFOWeekendAdventures one more question, did you have to make any adjustments to put the bigger terminal end over the smaller post or did simply bolting it down tight work? Thanks again, your video has been a big help and I did subscribe.
@@banjoshad not adjustments just line it up and screw it down on top of the black plastic piece
I like so many others hate the secondary battery. I Followed this video, took out the 42 fuse of my Sahara JL 2019 and removed the line to the battery and taped it up. The vehicle starts great- no warning lights BUT my start and start is still functioning… WHY? Any ideas ? I thought this shut off the ESS….
That's normal, the star and stop is going to work, just keep it off. If yours is on every time you start the jeep then buy a Tazer or star stop plug
would that be the same for a 2016 Jeep Cherokee? Not the Grand.
If you have the double battery then I would say yes
I have issues too with my auxiliary battery my way to avoid the issue was program my self to start the Jeep and automatically just turn off start stop and bought a portable jump start from auto parts store for a dead battery stranded situations and replace both batteries with quality lithium batteries when affordable to do so. The Aux will go first then the main battery will come after. Screwing with the way something is designed is a gamble that I won't take with my baby. Preper too and have a EMP shield wired to the main battery and a winch. Aux batteries need to be charged regularly by driving or life span is short. Disconnect the main battery if you store it.
My 2020 had the cable without the stud as the main. It is just odd that they changed that in between sometime.
Could be that the 2020 models are different.
For the negative cables mine was the opposite. The smaller neg battery w the smaller end piece didn't work. I had to leave the bigger one on. Weird.
I've heard this from other folks, guess you have to try either cable to see which one will work.
Same with mine. Small cable was the one that I taped off. Didn't work the other way around. Makes me wonder about Jeeps quality control 🤔
@@BryanHectic seems to be very inconsistent
Did you have to eventually put in a bigger battery ?
I'm still on the original battery but eventually when I get enough money I'll put in a bigger battery.
Did you have a tazer on the jeep before the delete
Yes I did, but I didn't know until after the fact.🤣
is all still ok after fuse and cable removel?
Still running strong, even with pulling the overland trailer once a month
I tried it but on my JL it is the second cable that you left connected and the stop /star continues to work, it does not work on my JL
It can be either cable, depending on the Jeep. The start stop will continue to work, you have to manually shut it off unless you buy a Tazer or put the start stop eliminator.
I pulled the F42 fuse and the correct negative battery lead, which is opposite of yours. My Jeep fired up fine but the Auto Stop/Start light on the dash doesn’t come on. I’ve got a 2020 Wrangler. Does anyone have this going on, or did I do something wrong?
The light doesnt have to come on for it to work properly. if you press the button does it come on?
@@FAFOWeekendAdventures yes, the light does come on when I push the button.
@@mikehenderlong3945 Then it working properly, you just have to manually shut it off everytime unless you install an: amzn.to/40BZtIu or a Tazer: amzn.to/3MKBOzY
So my ess indicator light came on a few days ago (2020 JL) and I came across this vid this morning. I went and pulled the fuse and initially pulled the wrong wire off the battery. When I went to switch them and put back the correct wire, there was a tiny spark when I put the wire back onto the battery post. I thought that was weird cause there was nothing else touching anywhere. Now I have no backup camera and no A/C. Can’t even adjust temp at all. The display is stuck on “Lo”. I changed it back to original set up and same thing. Any idea what’s going on? Pretty sure a fuse or something?
Try disconnecting the whole battery for about 5 minutes and check all the fuses, hopefully this will work.
@@FAFOWeekendAdventures thanks for the response. I went out an hour later and everything was back to normal. Apparently what happened to me is pretty common when disconnecting the battery. Anyway, was working fine until 10 minutes into my drive when I came to a stop light. Even though the fuse is pulled and battery cable disconnected, the engine stopped! I took my foot off the brake, and it started back up. What the heck!? So since I have been researching this, I have found that for some reason, this battery delete solution does not work on 2020 JLs. 12.6 V. Your battery is not charging you need 13+ just show your battery is charging usually 13.8. I did a multimeter test though. It seems weird to me. If you disconnect the small cable on the positive side of your battery and separate the two. The big battery still connected to everything shows 12.8 V the other little cable that I assume runs to the smaller battery is 12.5 V when you start the jeep the big battery remains at 12.8 the small cable shows 14.5 V. Which leads me to believe that the alternator runs to the smaller battery. And from smaller battery up to the big battery. You would think it be the opposite, but it doesn’t seem to be so. The big + cable from the big battery goes to the starter. The smaller cable from + big battery is the small battery and the alternator charging system. All I know is when you put it on your charging system and red 12.6. That is not the correct voltage when a vehicle is running.

Damn that sounds really heart breaking bro.
I followed these steps but I am still getting the ESS light on the dash. I'm ok with it as long as it isn't draining my battery. I was stuck yesterday briefly. Will take it for a ride later. So far it has started no issues.
Edit. Went to start my jeep this morning. Wont start. Voltage reading at 10.
You should be good, I would check the voltage regularly with a volt meter if it makes you feel better.
Pretty sure he disconnected the wrong ground, and he should have jumped the two posts in the fuse box.
Nothing on the dash telling you there’s a problem. A symbol like this.. !
12.6 volts while running isn’t enough.
12.6 volts while parked is normal.
@@FAFOWeekendAdventuresno it’s not, when the engine is running you should be getting 13.4-14.2 Volts
@@xBEASTNASTYx The JL doesn't constantly throw 13-14 volts at the battery from the alternator to help its longevity. At idle, 12 is fine. It'll ramp it up to 13 or 14 when necessary. This is by design.
@@xBEASTNASTYxI just we outside to verify and it reading 14.2
When you saw the 12.6 I dont think it was running he just had a acc on to read the gauge
Thanks. Just the dumbest design ever. The Aux battery is killing my main battery and I'm doing the same bypass. Auto/stop/start is a dumb idea as well, and this design is the worst possible way you achieve it.
I agree with you
So tried this because I'm starting to have issue. My dash stays dead, unless I plug both negative wire to the pole. I mean... WTH? I really don't understand. 2019 JLU V6. Any idea?
You might have the same issue as the 2020, it seems not to work.
@@FAFOWeekendAdventures I got it to work after a few tries. I think you have to do things in a certain order otherwise the sensor on the negative pole of the main battery will be in the "off" mode and then you don't have power at all. I did it wrong the 1st time, but I'm not sure what the correct order is TBH. I redid it a few times, until it worked! 😂
@@OffRoadQC Thats great to hear, now I can at least pass this information along when someone else has the same issue. Please like, share and subscribe for more videos.
If you remove the aux battery and connect the pos of the aux battery to the pos of the main battery and tie the aux ground out of the way you wont need to remove a fuse and it wont void youre warranty. I removed mine 4 years ago.
Thanks for that info, I won't be removing my aux battery just in case I have to take it in for any warranty repairs and they notice that the battery is missing, after it expires then it's gone.
I still have my warranty and my jeep has been to the dealership at least 3 times or more. I always inform the mechanic that ive removed the aux. A couple times they were amazed that it could be done and asked me to explain how I did it. But its never affected my warranty. But if youre nervous about it just wait.@@FAFOWeekendAdventures
You still have to push the stop start button on the dash right?
@@terrydtdi I don't, mine stayed off
@@FAFOWeekendAdventures I did it exactly like what was done on the video so, 🤷 I don’t know.
