    I really liked the way it was shaped previously. Gave it so much character. More cost effective with your remodel of course.youve been humbled if you ever have had to live in one not by choice. 30yrs ago divorced and putting myself through college for law enforcement with a 4 yr old daughter. I did the best I could. It wasn’t a dream home by any means and renting was still expensive. I was lucky to have a wood stove to heat it during winter with the heavy snow.

      I completely agree! The cute little awnings along with the boat like structure on the exterior as well as the small porthole style windows with the wood paneling indoor and the half room dividers, along with two bedrooms and two bathrooms with tubs to soak in, coupled with the homes location on the water or all intentional as to give the house a cozy nautical feel. Now, after stripping all of that away, it seems like a cold and sterile environment with a single bathroom and a standing shower.... It looks sounds and feels about as cold as relaxing as a dentist's office. 😱

People in these mobile homes probably don't have any matching dishes or glasss. Also, if you have 2 kids,mom,and dad you need full sized washer and dryer not stackable. Open shelving, especially in a small kitchen is a waste of space and unsanitary. Mobile home dwellers need a very functional kitchen as they cook almost all of their meals. You should at least screen in the porch or better yet make it a 3 season sunroom. It's a huge selling feature and has a nice view of the lake and acts like another room into the house.

    I would take into consideration the view. you blocked all the windows facing the river view and keep the ones looking at the other trailers. as a selling point the river view is much nicer to look at and a window in the bathroom is desired by a lot of people something to keep in mind in the future. other then that you made a bad looking trailer look a lot better.

    • @TimothyPLivingston
      @TimothyPLivingston  Pƙed 3 lety +13

      Was nice to have a light story, usually only see that in high end houses. Understand the expense about restoration, though. That's not your business, you redo and flip. But riverview would have been big selling point. More money? Maybe not a lot , since it's an old trailerđŸ€·

I hope you wind up in an old run down place with no even a view considered. Can't you consider past selling point to what would be nice to live in. Women need to bathe and soak. Men sometimes do to. So you never bathe, do you even use a rag when you shower or just product and no scrubbing the dead skin off with the sweat. Unusual.

    The 45-degree from the kitchen to the hallway is interesting, but for this small of a home I think I would rather have kept the wall for a larger pantry cabinet. I also have to vote a thumbs down on the kitchen shelving. It does help in keeping an open space feel, but cabinets with clear or frosted glass doors would have accomplished the same thing. As for trading the tub out for a shower, I'm definitely in favor. Yeah, it's helpful with kids for those very early years but then everyone is taking a shower. On the other end of the age spectrum, stepping in and out of a tub can be a hazard for seniors. Great work.

    • @chocolate-eq6jn
      @chocolate-eq6jn Pƙed 2 lety +1

      Yes, but here's the thing: Seniors will need a bathtub , so the solution would be to install a walk-in bath tub (it has a door and you can sit down with a chair or recline to rest and relax). They can be pricey, though, and you have to make sure to get the right features. I agree with you about the kitchen shelving.

    You did a really nice job, especially where you opened it up and made more usable space. Just a couple of things possibly. The flooring color, either lighter or darker...bathroom looked good tho. The kitchen shelves!!...the open shelving is really nice keeps things light...however those dinky shelves don't hold much, they need to be deeper and go the full width of the wall ( even into the corners) to hold plates etc...😉

    I love the before, and after shots, you did lose a little cupboard space in the kitchen, but overall I like the new, modern look, ha what a beautiful transformation, I would say the estimate value of that just guessing off the top of my head, but could probably go for about 15 to 20 grand, lots of hard work sweat shows that you guys have done a wonderful job. Thank you for sharing.

    I don’t like the idea of not having upper cupboards in the kitchen. You need cupboard space in a kitchen! The “open” floor plan between the kitchen and living room is a no go for me. There still needs to be a divider of some kind between the two rooms with (you guessed it) more cupboards or storage area. The kitchen also needs more counter space. The same holds true in the bathroom. There needs to be space for toiletries and laundry products.
    You have done an excellent job remodeling this mobile home. It is a grand idea to rescue these older homes and make them modern and livable. But do pay attention to the way the home was originally planned. Be careful sealing up too many windows. Many are in place for cross ventilation or to create an illusion of space for a small home.
    I am looking forward to more of these renovations! Good luck!

      No river view...they blocked off those windows. Those tiny upper shelves in the kitchen will look awful when ppl put their random jars, bottles and boxes of food up there on 'decorative 'shelves Those little shelves wd be perfect for the back wall of the bathroom, tho, as there's no place to put anything there, either.

    You are right that the kitchen has an open, clean feel to it visually! However, it will be significantly inconvenient for anyone who is trying to prepare meals. Overhead cabinets are vital for supplies/accessories you access on a regular basis. Just think about cups or glasses for drinking for example - do you want to bend over and peer into a deep cupboard that is difficult to see all the way to the back just to get a drink? This theory might work if all your below counter cabinets were equipped as pull-out organizers with a frame to secure glasses in a row. But then that space that is typically reserved for heavier, bulkier items like mixing bowls, pots, pans, crockpots and appliances is compromised to make room for your things that should have been over the counter.
    These are observations from a 63 yr old mother of 5 and an appreciative fan of your channel. I am curious what sort of female input you may have received on this kitchen design? As an anthropologist I suspect that if you did receive a positive response from a woman younger than myself, she may likely fit into the modern phenomenon of younger moms with fewer children who rarely cook from scratch and prefer prepackaged and frozen items or take out. It would be interesting to know just from a sociological perspective.

      This fad will fade away soon I hope. Overhead cabinetry is the most usable storage a kitchen has. While having open shelving or wall space may photograph well, it's horrible and wasteful to try to live with. I know, Joanne and Chip always take out the upper cabinets and it looks great. Check out how many of those HGTV fixer upper couples have moved out of those renovated houses. It's a lot. Why? Because ripping out walls and cabinets eliminates storage and makes living in those homes a messy nightmare!

It's very good and put together just fine. you don't even need to get all fancy which will complicate and take even more time to do. These are great.
