Blood and guts and godhand
Well those arenât the correct lyrics, but youâve got the spirit of it!
Yet still called femto Griffith
Poor guts
Well said, I really like your description.
I think It's because Guts himself is hope.
What makes this themw so fucking amazing is that it actually understand what is really Guts, someone could just have gone for some epic heavy metal badass shit, but Guts is more than just an edgy swordsman
The world around him has abused and viciously attacked him, making it absolute necessary for him to harden just to struggle to stay alive. But when Guts is alone, he's often deep in thought, staring into the distance and often cradling his sword for comfort. He's wounded and emotionally fragile but when shown compassion and care, he softens and shows care in turn.
Heâs an edgy *depressed* swordsman
Yeah the composerâs just that skilled. Guts is a vagrant looking for a way out the darkness but is very human and flawed; he has felt pain, heart break, betrayal, cried but never gave up and continued dusting off his psyche to keep walking. His theme song is just perfect for it
It is something that's installed right at the beginning of the manga : Guts is violent, but more than anything he is sad and tired. He doesn't want massacre, he wants peace and the recovery of the only person he truly loved : Casca. Honestly, if Griffith had just asked for his pardon (with honesty) I don't think Guts would have done it but he would at least be a bit appeased because he would know that the humanity of Griffith is still there, and because he knows his dream and he's his best friend. That's why I love the last chapters, Guts is becoming wise, he has a student, close friends he trusted to the point of placing Casca in their hands and also a "master" or at least someone that knows his pain: the Skeleton Knight. He evolved from a solo stone-hearted bastard (Berserker ?) to a wise, collected but no less determined warrior that's on his way to control his demons.
guts is an allegory for pushing through and back against a cruel and harsh reality he is in real ways relatable and inspiring and in other ways his problems are much bigger.
It's almost like he read the manga, by just listening to the music.
He did, wassup btw.

If you're going to watch the anime, I definitely recommend the 1997 version or the movies. The song in the video is only used in the 1997 one. Gut's life is underwater metaphorically. He can't escape from harsh reality and destiny while he watches others living to their fullest. He's never happy because the only friend he had betrayed him and killed everyone who helped him get to shallow grounds. After the Eclipse happened, he sank to the bottom of the sea. He's so filled with hatred and sadness that it's the only thing that keeps him going. People compare Guts with anime characters who have gone through misfortunes and torture but Guts is the character that is only human. He never gets away from his past because he can't.
Water is a symbolic representation of transformation, growth, rebirth in some elements of artistic expression.
Angels Egg is the perfect example of water being just that, the music in that anime movie does as well reflect an elemental aspect of storytelling.
It would be very fitting for Gut's theme to feature an aquatic ambience, as his growth is fluid, authentic and fills in each part of him like water in the gaps.

@@Foogi9000 makes since Griffith is fire because his destruction breeds creation
So the TL;DR of Berserk (which, I HIGHLY recommend the manga. It's fantastic, and has numerous influences on pop culture, even here in the west) is it's the story of Guts, a man who's life started when he was born from his mother's hung corpse and has only really gone downhill from there, yet he always manages to pick himself up and keep moving forward despite the weight of the world crushing down on him.
The anime covers the Golden Age Arc, the part generally considered to be the best moments of Guts' life, and his theme generally plays during deep moments of Guts' introspection, usually over how, after a life full of either complete solitude or heavy abuse from those closest to him, he's finally found people he can call friends, comrades, brothers in arms, or even family near the end of it all, and how he now has a life ahead of him that isn't just swinging a sword and fighting for his life.
And then that dream was crushed...

@@sleepyfilipino it was something along the lines "death is not the end. More to come." I'm paraphrasing. In likelihood it means anime, games, projects, etc. Were already finalized and in the works. âRepetitive without being exhausting,â Guts: The Struggler
On a superficial view one could be puzzled as to why a violent and strong charachter is matched to such a melanchiolic and spiritual theme like this one. But Hirasawa got deeper and understood perfectly the complexity , struggle and pain of the charachter, and wrote a theme that encaplsuates the essence of this mighty and yet fragile hero, struggling to find his place in a world that seems to have never wanted him from the birth. This for me is the greatness of this song, this is a picture of guts spirit made with musical notes. The rest of the ost is just as incredible and effective in reflecting the tone of the world, i mean just listen to tracks like "beherit" "earth" "murder", and the adrenaline pumping "forces", they are not just a generally good fit for the material they are written for, they ARE the spirit and essence of that world.
