People years ago lived in a harder world than we do now. They needed faith to get them thru the day. Most people today who have a strong belief in God have suffering and pray for relief while others feel there is no one out there because no one came when they cried out and gave up. Others are called to it because God wants to keep the church alive. We know from scripture that Every Generation told the next one - Tell Your Children of The Glory of God, Tell Your Children of The Glory of God, Tell Your Children of The Glory of God. God does not want us to forget Him. I think it has a lot to do with how much pain can you take and still hang on in a hopeless struggle. I really don't think belief in God has anything to do with mathematical and philosophical computations and has more to do with suffering and how long can you hang on.

Thank you both, after this and a lot of other research I’m convinced God exists, although I struggle with not feeling foolish believing in something not 100% certain, but my bigger issue is now how do you know it’s the Christian God? The beauty and coherence with human nature from Catholicism is pulling me this way but I just find it hard to accept it, no one seems to be able to tell me why Catholicism is true rather than why others are not. How do we know God even is tied to a preexisting organized religion? The miracles in the Bible I have a hard time making sense of and not seeing them as fictional/embellishments of real stories. I have tried to pray but feel very foolish and dirty doing so.
All of this makes logical sense, it’s just very hard to accept something not 100% as true without feeling crazy. Why do you believe God has these supernatural powers/works in a wizardly way doing miracles and acting in these mysterious ways?
I do have trust issues so that may be part of why I find this so hard.
    Got any advice?

I've always been a fan of the argument presenting how big of a coincidence it is the world even exists and is habitable for us. Trent mentioned the strength of the strong nuclear force being just right for our universe to work, but our current understanding of physics actually lists 26 unique constants that describe our physical universe. Adjust any one of these slightly (i.e. gravity being stronger, the speed of light being faster, etc.) and our universe becomes uninhabitable and our existence is impossible. If we came from nothing then it's a remarkable coincidence we exist at all. Something must have created our universe.

unlikely things become inevitable when given enough chances... take the lottery for example. The chances of winning that are like 1 in 10 million, or something, but there are winners every week.
How do you know that its even possible for any of those constants to have been different?
How do you know that the universe wouldn't have just been different and we'd be different things looking a different numbers talking about how "there's no way, look how precise it all is, it couldn't be any different"?

@Gerry Hagen Lol, I find it funny that you claim to have talked to scientists that spout a claim that exists only in creationist propaganda.
Its also funny that you claim scientists say there is evidence of design in nature... which is another claim that only exists in creationist propaganda.
I can only conclude that you are either confused or a liar... or that you have been talking to people who are confused and/or liars.

    • @timeshark8727
      @timeshark8727 Před 2 lety

@Gerry Hagen Yeah, sorry, I went a little hard at you... its just, at some point when people portray things that are, at best, horrible caricatures of fringe hypothesis' as if they are main-stream theories I lose all interest and hope. It honestly feels like talking to flat earthers while floating around the international space station at times.
The "the universe came from nothing" idea is a great example of this. The creationist catch-phrase began because of a book called _"A Universe from Nothing: Why There is Something Rather Than Nothing"_ by Lawrence Krauss. The irony is, that the "nothing" he talks about in the book isn't actually nothing the way anyone who isn't a physicist would think of it.
The idea also is NOT an accepted part of big bang cosmology, which has a singularity, an infinitely dense (or as close to it as possible) mass of energy/matter, as what expanded.
The big bang as an explosion is a sad biproduct of the name "big bang". An explosion has never been part of any version of big bang cosmology. Its always been an expansion of space-time. Sadly, scientists like to name thing to be funny rather than worry about how dishonest people with agendas will twist the names in the future.
As far as evidence of design in nature, I think you, or the people you heard this particular claim from, are confusing the times when some scientists "admit" (to use your phrasing) that much of nature _seems_ designed at first glance.
It also stems from the Anthropocentric bias inherent in humans, and our tendency to assign agency where there is none. Basically, this is a holdover from a time in our history when the grass moving could have been the wind, or a predator... the ones who believed it to be a predator and took steps to avoid it were better off whether it actually was a predator or not.
Finally, regarding the idea that people reject god because they don't want some higher power to have control over their lives (subconsciously or otherwise)... that's just nonsense that was concocted by people in order to explain away their failing to persuade others with their apologetics.
The line in the bible about no one having an excuse because God has shown them all, and his works are obvious, is one of a few things that first made me think that my beliefs were at least a little bit wrong. It is also the first time when I realized beyond the shadow of doubt that the bible was not right about everything.
In all of my life, there is nothing I can possibly know better or with more confidence that what I personally think or believe... and the bible tells me that I am wrong on that topic? Lol, that's like someone handing you a coffee mug then telling you that you must believe its a living adult blue whale, because its "so evident, you have no excuse not to believe".

  • @fishhy9720

What good is faith, if you have evidence for god? Sometimes I think god deliberately avoided evidence so people can enjoy having faith in him. There is no evidence for god. All you've got is faith, and personal experience. Why is that so bad? Faith disappears when you know for a fact that god exists.

I know of persons who were atheists but now they believe staunchly in God and love him with their whole life. I'm publishing a weekly CZcams video on episodes from the life of Don Bosco who performed almost a miracle every day, through the intercession of Mary Help of Christians. The link is ST JOHN BOSCO by JOE ZAMMIT. It's interesting because the documented miracles were performed by God, and as such prove his existence. But, as I said, only grace can move a person to believe. Arguments have no power to turn an atheist into a theist. At the same time, I don't want to belittle the value of arguments because arguments appeal to human reason.

If you can imagine the vastness of space, that you can travel in any direction and never come to a barrier, it goes on for all eternity (get that image in your mind) There is no up / down / left / right ... it has no barriers to form direction.. Space is not an empty void, it is a real place just like the street you live on, Now, If space was NOT there what would be there? What Came before space? What came before space ? If space went out of existence what would take the space of space? It can not go out of existence. If you can manage to believe that space always existed has no boundaries in time or vastness, can never go away, had no beginning why can you not believe that a God existed always with no boundaries and had no beginning? People think the big band was the start, space was already eternal long before the big bang. That just created the tiny universe in which we live and nothing else. Space is HUGE, was ALWAYS THERE, Goes on ETERNALLY and God did as well. He is the master of ALL that is eternal. God does not live in a void. We don't really know where but He lives in a place outside of time and dimension. God and we as spirits at some point travel by just a thought. We think the speed of light is fast, they just are there in a thought. The speed of light travels around the earth 7 times a second. God surpasses all barriers. The speed of light is not a law that he obeys. God exists above physical limitations. As a side note, you will live for eternity now that you have been created, how would it be to live in misery for all eternity after these puny decades on earth end? You get only ONE shot to get it right and that is it for all eternity.

My favorite verse in the bible... the one that unequivocally demonstrated, to me, that the bible was not the inherent word of any god and helped start me on the path out of religion. When a book tells me that I am wrong on the only thing I can possible be truly certain of in the entirety of existence, my own thoughts, then I know for certain that its not perfect.
The irony of people who cannot actually point to any proper revelation or evidence pointing to something that says such things are clear and obvious, is hilarious by the way.

Most of what I read in the comment section is a rejection of an evidence based reality and the assertion that a very specific God is the obvious answer to question science can’t yet answer. I don’t know if a God is possible and I reject the notion that faith is a good metric for coming to a decision on the validity of anything. Any belief system that tots faith as an administrable quality is probably conning their followers. Please, if you can, tell me why your God concept values faith.

    • @CatholicTruthOfficial
      @CatholicTruthOfficial  Před 3 lety +1

What do you mean by faith? If you listen to the video, Trent was clear that there are many philosophical proofs for God and not just blind faith. Proofs that are logical, deductive, make sense and point to God. Faith is a gift from God do that allows us to sense the Divine and be aware of his presence. Many people might see the evidence but not have faith. Or as Aristotle did not grow up in a monotheistic religion or believing in God but he logically deduced that God had to exist in the universe couldn't have created itself.
Ultimately, we cannot prove 100% either way. Science might prove the Multiverse, or a bouncing Universe, for any number of theories, but they could never know what was at the beginning, how it all came about, and since we cannot Traverse the past back to the beginning, that would have to be taken on faith as well. Either way there is an element of faith. But since there is far more evidence for God rather than against him and his existence, it makes more sense to put faith in God. From there, God can increase that faith and make Himself known to you and aware of his presence and reality.

Isn't God meant to be unfathomable? "All-good", "all-knowing" and "all-powerful" being isn't anymore fathomable than infinity and I think it's meant to be that way. Perhaps that has do with the fall. We could once fathom God and his existence, but now we strain to explain why he exists. These efforts seem futile because it's all philosophical and different philosophers often arrive at different conclusions depending on their personal experiences. Basically what I'm saying is explaining God is like explaining string theory. You know everything is connected but proving it to the naked eye of another person who doesn't even have a point of reference for why this theory exists in the first place, might just be bored and never listen. Believing that things are random, disconnected, chaos, etc is more comforting because (fill in the blank). Different people will say different things. People don't care about things unless they're forced to. I've heard one guy say he believes in "balance" but what does anyone mean if they say they believe in such a thing? Different people have different ideas of what balance is and at that point, we might as well forget about this idea that things are connected. Maybe it really is all chaos. It's like palinko. We fell in the same slot and think everyone has experienced our version of palinko, but people don't. Everyone's experience is unique. How do people connect? They have to choose to, and (technically) it can't be forced. I think it's an extreme form of narcissism that we tell ourselves that if we say the right words, people will like us or if I choose the right actions, people will like us. But why should they? People do everything they do in ordered to be liked, not just by other people, but also things like God or his opposite, but I don't see the light in this, because these beings aren't going to like you now (no matter what you say/do) if they never liked you in the first place. How do we know God loves us? We don't but the delusion is so sublime, I'm sure your first instinct is to pull some (supposedly) logical argument out your butt. I see it differently.

If I were you I’d start by reading the Holy Bible and the Catechism.
To know someone is the beginning of love. The Bible helps you to get to truly know God and why we are here. If you don’t fall in love with Jesus by the end then you should read it again because you obviously weren’t paying attention.
I’ve lived for myself…was interesting and seemingly fun, until it wasn’t, then Jesus entered my broken life and He has never let me down.
Every flower, every sunrise and sunset, every smile…He is there!
My washing machine broke last week. I prayed ( I pray every day for love of God and others) knowing I’m unworthy of His help, I asked for help, and sure enough, the machine began to work. I keep thanking Him every day for that assist!
This is just one tiny miracle among so many that He has done for me and my loved ones. I’m not saying He is a genie that grants wishes, I’m saying that if you have a deep loving relationship with God, you too will see the miracles every day!
My favorites are beautiful flowers, squirrels that stop and greet me, birds that sing back when I whistle, sunsets and beautiful moon scenes. Family and friends that visit especially when I need a visit and they didn’t even know I needed them.
God is awesomeness! He loves you! Let Him into your heart and life.

Very profound logic Effie. But consider this. YOU are lived by a GOD so much that He literally gives you the free will AND privilege to think how you do. You need to reach a level of understanding that He loves you so much that every moment in your life is because He is there. Take my brother for example. He lost his wife about two months ago now. They had a son and my brother was constantly working. He basically became estranged to his own son and he admits that money WAS his god. Afternoon his wife, he saw things different. He understands now the concept that God takes something you love so much in order to set your perspective straight. So YES. there is a God and yes He does love you that much that He is willing to let you doubt Him until YOU are ready to understand and to come back to His grace. And before you hit me with that "Why does evil exist " thing, remember that evil exists because of the same reason your thoughts exist. Free will. God chooses to let man do what they want because He chooses to trust that their judgements are going to be right. Unfortunately man is stupid and choose the ladder. Either way, no one in this world will escape their fates. Not you nor I. At the end we will ALL answer to God and we will all have to give explanations as to why we did what we did. I just hope like you, I hope that I get privilege to enter paradise and I hope to be in His presence when that time comes.

More so how this being already existed for an eternity before all of a sudden deciding to create the universe in which we arrived at this day. And ESPECIALLY since Trent is an avid defender of the idea of an infinite future with this god.

With that in mind it would be nice if apologists could stop making false claims about what the theories in physics actually says. But as they continously does this they are either deliberately misrepresenting the theories or they don't understand the theories.
Also, feel free to provide a reference to any such eucharistic research done by the UN.
The second argument: the church claim god is eternal and as such has existed for an eternity before creating the universe.
