  • SB Chad and two of our students, Cameron and Will, demonstrate Dan-Gun, the second form in the ITF set of Chang-Hon forms for Tae Kwon Do. Dan-Gun is 21 steps and is named after Dan-Gun, the Legendary Founder of Korea 2333 B.C. It is the required form for orange belt in our school (dojang).

    Very interesting....It says ITF, but I don't see very much ITF in this. It looks more like Japanese Karate going over Dan-Gun. Wrong chambers, Ki-aps in pattern, and stances are to wide. Plus ITF uniforms are not black. Sorry just an opinion.

      I agree 100%, but like I mentioned in my comment, there are different ITF now, maybe they did changes to make them different from the originals. So I cannot say they are wrong if that is how they teach them at his federation. But yes they are not performed the way Gen Choi left them.

      Emmanuel Reyes Yes sir. I'm not sure about the Federation they support, but like you mentioned this is not how the General designed the pattern before he passed away. I'm sure when this individual was learning Dan-Gun, this is how he was taught, which causes a very bad ripple effect down the road. I do know that some ITF organizations have tweeted a few things in the pattern, but nothing to this extreme. Yours in TKD!

      Joe Kerr I agree with you. Is sad to see a form that I trained so hard and all the other forms and see it been destroyed like this. But I'm glad I'm not the one teaching it the wrong way.

      Not every instructor is the same in performing a set, everybody is different, and l think out all that l've he's the most graceful, seem arrogant, but graceful, l'm a practioner of tang soo do, and in every video, their not all the same, but , some are graceful and teach showing every chamber, or some just skim through it, and tae kwondo is really a form of karate, korean style, if you wanna see some very authenic tae kwon do, check out ATA, it is very different than this, l guarantee.

    This is like the third video I see from this School and even tho they doing the ITF Forms, they are 100% different than the Traditional ITF. I don't know if some of the other ITF federations changed the forms because they didn't agree with Gen Choi. But if I am going to compare this form with what was left at the Gen Choi Encyclopedia this is 100% incorrect. But if this is your ITF style then I guess is ok. Thanks for the video tho.

    • @EmmanuelReyes
      @EmmanuelReyes Před 9 lety +4

      ***** thanks for your opinion. I'm just going to make it easy. There is an encyclopedia left by Gen Choi which still shows the sinewave. Also Gen Choi died in 2002 of you looks videos of him at seminars he was still teaching the sinewave so no ITF didn't dropped it in 83 while he was still alive. So based on the encyclopedia which should be our bible and the proof of videos gen choi showing techniques. This form is completely incorrect. Now after he died and the creation of so many ITF, other schools and masters started to change the forms because they didn't agreed with version techniques and movements even tho some of them did train with the general. That's why I made the comment that if that's how they teach him the form is not wrong under his federation or school but is wrong under the Traditional ITF.

      +Nick Elwood Rhee Ki Ha definitely teaches sine wave today, he is very approachable to talk to about the continual changes in TKD. Sadly the ITF politics are always going to change the way patterns and moves are performed.

    • @EmmanuelReyes
      @EmmanuelReyes Před 9 lety +1

      Hugh Wood the ITF manage by Gen Choi son don't change the patterns just done of the movements that weren't clear. Is the practioners that don't want to follow that ITF that started to change things drastically.

    I don't think these kids are black belts. Their stances are shaky. I would even get to the second belt with those stances at my school. Sad how some schools just give away belts without truly testing them.

    Too much artistic interpretation in this demonstration of Dan Gun. Wrists are bent, stances are incorrect, the blocks aren’t starting at the shoulder, thumbs are in wrong position on the ridge hand etc.etc.
    The art has been diluted and Chinese whispers have taken hold, transforming it from a pure, one size fits all to an adjustable reclining car seat.
    That is all. Gen Choy Hong Hoi would roll over in his grave.
