No sweat bro, we all know the off-road capabilities of a truck are no match for the WRC heritage within the mighty Mk1 Focus!! The Focus can do off-road and perform slick lines on the road; it does it all... So we understand and forgive your decision.

Good job on the b series man. You definitely saved it and made it a little gem. My guess for what you next project is, I would say a ba or bf ute judging from the seats but I don't consider them to be a minitruck. So I'm going to say a pj or Pk ranger 🤔

As another car enthusiast I understand what you say. Having said that though, I tend to keep the one vehicle, which ends up becoming an almost life-long project, there's always something that needs improving/modifying. Of course though, how long things take and what can be done are limited by budgetary constraints :P
I have a car, my ongoing project, and the '98 PD Courier Supercab, which is my daily driver and my work ute, but I like to keep in the best condition possible :)
That brings me to your little ute, I'd love to know how you got on with the suspension under it. In the lowering video you thought the shocks were OK, were they? I've recently replaced mine, which looked like the ones on yours with no signs of wear, i.e. leaking, etc., but they were knackered :P
And how did you go removing all those leaves out the rear springs? Even though my ute is for my work, I don't carry heavy loads in it, most of the time I carry nothing in the back. I'm actually right now in the process of repairing, replacing all the suspension components with the end aim of improving the ride. Being a ute, it gets damn annoying after a while being bounced around in it without any load weighing it down. I've removed the very bottom leaf out of the rear springs and am yet to see what difference it makes. I'm wondering if I should take out another one before I put it all back together. I guess it's just one of those suck and see things :P
While I've had them apart I've cleaned them up thoroughly and like in your lowering video have chamfered the contact edges of the ends of the springs, which is how they should have been made from the factory. Over time, those ends have gouged out the under surface of each spring above it, leaving a nasty little bit of a divot, so I've smoothed them over a bit too.
I've also coated the contact surface area of each spring with a PTFE dry lubricant and rust inhibitor coating. So with the above done and the coating it will give the springs the best chance of working optimally, making for a smoother ride.
Having said all of that I'd love to know how far you got with the suspension on yours and how much of a difference it made to drive :)
    Cheers.

Hi mate, thanks for your detailed comment. To answer your question about the suspension, I lowered the ute by removing a lot of the leaves and wound down the front torsion bars. This gave me the ride height I was looking for, but the quality of the ride did suffer - in a way. My ute actually rode a lot better with the car being lowered, because the suspension was effectively softer - less leaves in the back, softer torsion bars in the front. This made the ride a lot more compliant over bumps which was nice, but the issue was the ride height. The bump stops are very close to the chassis at this ride height, and the suspension being softer, the height travel was bigger, making the chassis hit the bump stops. I trimmed the stops down and this helped (they are too big from factory anyway), but I would say that if I was attempting to make the suspension perfect, I would have needed to looking to other solutions, such as flipping the front ball joints for more suspension travel (search on CZcams), and maybe putting a few leaves back in the back and resetting their height. It rode fine for a daily run about, but by no means was it perfect. I miss it, but I'm the type of guy who likes to experience different cars - life is short. I have the Falcon Ute now which is vastly different, In many ways the PC Courier was a better ute to drive daily - much more fun, nimble, and a more tactile experience. I hope you enjoyed the video series, and I appreciate you commenting mate. I wish you all of the best with the PD - they are great little trucks...
