I don't understand how NAS is not in the running of this conversation. It's a little ridiculous that people keep downgrading NAS who is probably the quintessential MC of our time, who doesn't really care about being in the Limelight who is more of an artist then a popstar. We have to look at his background and look what his father was and still is about and as far as being socially aware Nas has been dropping science since day one so I really don't understand nor do I get this ongoing argument especially when this argument is coming from these three in the one in the middle who sometimes needs to keep his mouth shut. I'm sorry I don't mean to go there but I get tired of people commenting or taking a survey on our music, this is our music.
I also find it funny that this guy Rosenberg has an opinion on hip hop, now I know I may offend some people when I say this but that's okay this is our music birth out of the Bronx 1973 Kool herc. I don't need someone who does not look like my people to form an opinion about everything concerning Hip Hop I understand we're reaching the masses and that's okay but when you start to form an opinion about our music, our culture which you have little understanding of then I have a problem. Nas by far is our ambassador, I don't know how these people get these radio jobs what makes them better than any of us why is it that their opinion is valued I would love to have a sit-down conversation with anyone of them and debate in all seriousness about who is the best who was not the best in regards to hip hop. I mean let's be honest like nah said you wanted to be on every last one of my classics, it would seem like to me Jay Z clearly is following the footsteps of Nas and terms of his Investments and even his social awareness but if we paid attention we would know that Nas has been socially aware since the beginning of his rap career.
Honestly and it kinda make sense now why J cole is like that too he don’t really care about the limelight he just rap and live his life
@Jarrel Ely don't ask a dumb question Nore really?
Nas is not rapping for the charts or for popularity. Nas teaches in his music and it’s always a message.Top 5 in my book above Jay who is an honorable mention in my book
Nas don’t have the catalog that jay has.
"Ether" is now a verb. Nas wins.
Takeover was a gut punch to Nas but Ether had Jay's tail tucked and weeping. Nas will never be held as high as Jay because he refuses to follow trends. Jay has adapted to what's hot, Nas is a pure artist like Prince.
Mr & Mrs Plummer I agree. But if Nas is Prince, JAY Z is definitely Michael Jackson!
One hot album every 10 years average ... FOH it was written was lit and better then anything hov has ever put out. So Nas has 2 untouchable albums and bodied him with ether . There can only be 1 king!!
Christopher Murphy false
@@420killaz78 you;re buggin if you think it was written is better than reasonable doubt or blueprint 1. i would say illmatic is better than anything hov has ever put out but jay has the next 2-3 albums after that, easily.
Even Prince adapted to sound I think ppl Jay is Underrated as an MC because his business moves outshines his Rap career Maybe thats what he wanted but bar for bar Jay-Z is a monster
4:21 he just admitted Nas was better as a rapper. Success never was the standard. Anyone can sell their ass.
Straight facts 💯
Much success to ya, even if you wish me the opposite/sooner or later we'll all see who the prophet is
Greatest of All Time *NAS* !

Nas hands down, just putting these nigguz on a beat and say go to work??? Nas!!! Ether vs Takeover? Ether. And Nas is doing alright for himself, I hate when people try to compare people's pockets. Nas been eating good since It Was Written... Leave that man alone and let him live comfortable in his lane. Nas good, his family good, his business dealings is good, his restaurants good... He'd be better without the baby mama drama but Nas good and he's a legend and he's been a legend longer than Jay and he did it solo for the most part. No team, no Roc, no Dynasty, no Dame, no Russel just plantation Columbia records for the first 7 albums... He did good. I'm proud of Nas.
Troy Stone I agree and Nas has stayed true to himself in the industry. Success!!
That’s what’s so great about hip hop but to say it’s not even close is disingenuous. They had a battle for the crown for a reason. I think most fans are bias though and probably don’t even listen in depth to any mc who is the rival to their favorite. Listening to jay and nas albums just from the 90’s alone and it’s hard to determine who’s better. It basically just come down to taste and preference. Nas has a more relatable persona and jay has a more elite, wealthy persona that most can’t relate to. But if we really “listening to music and not just skimming through it” they both have crazy crazy bars and flows.
RBG RBG it's actually close both are top 5 emcees. Jay-Z was rapping like the fushickens before he listened to illmatic though lol
RBG RBG but Nas is the better storyteller and songwriter. Jay-Z spits from his perspective he's not good at telling stories , Jay-Z is good at straight spitting but Nas can do that too.
Nas the goat 🐐
when it comes to lyricism Nas n Rakim are the 🐐's
Jay z is the Greatest Camel Looking Rapper of All Time.
Accurate
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Jay Z isn't the first person that comes to mind when I think about who the greatest MC is in Hip Hop. It's very subjective.
NAS is so underrated
So underrated yet he's in every top 5 rappers list?
Shut up man!!!
Never understood the hate for Jay. Whether you have him as your Goat or not, denying what he's done in hip hop is disingenuous. Who else can say they out rapped Biggie on a track, has multiple classic albums, has a classic diss song and maintained relevance for over 25 years. He's respected by yall's favorite MC's for a reason(Eminem, Mos def, Kool G rap, Kane, Rakim and Sean Price have all put him in their top list).
Mike Jones I do hate jay I respect him and his impact I look up to him he is definitely 1 in alot of areas that have impacted the culture just not as an MC and his total body of work album wise is not that great ..not just hits
He never out rapped Biggie on a track FOH only one who kinda did was Method Man
Aye man. Pac Neva had respect for Jay!
Aye! Still Tippin?
@ziggy Xavier. Don't act brand new homie. It's universally accepted that jay out rapped Biggie on Brooklyn's finest. YOU many not think he did but the majority of people think he did based of the complexity of his bars. Big got him back on Young G's but on Brooklyn's finest Jay clearly had the better rhymes.
Ether was not just about Hov though, it had shots at Diddy, Dame etc
1 fucking line mentioned like stop hov dedicated the first half of takeover to mobb deep then the second half to nas
Remember these same guys stopped Nas from performing on Summer Jam after Nas Ethered him
There is no GOAT just peoples opinions
Exactly it all comes out to people's personal taste in rap music. But it is fun and entertaining to watch people debate about who is the best MC of all time.
Greatest is far less subjective than best; although favourite is completely subjective
legendary no, it’s not. If you back up your claims with an actual solid argument then it holds no weight
There are no opinions when it comes to the GOAT... Only the GOAT.
There are a Few goats, but the number one goat is a debate.
Nas is the best ever.
Why does everyone conveniently forget that nas bodied the entire rocafella roster over the paid n full instrumental
Kendrick won't out rap Em and Jay-Z.
Right now he most certainly can outrap jay....em ahhh depends on the day...em can either be super sharp with crazy good subject matter...and other days its just lazy and just a buncha words to fit and rhyme into his set rhyme scheme....
Anyone can get got on any day...its just like boxing
Now if you said he cudnt outrap nas, rakim(even at 70), immortal tech, mos def, black thought, id say his chances would be slim...
@Jarrel Ely off course not
@Jarrel Ely in what?? Rap off...or battle rap
(In there primes)
Rap off just like bar for bar wudnt be shocked if twista won
Battle...gonna go with jayz
kendrick will out rap jay z anytime.
nomar manuel-munoz what does out rap mean? If talking velocity then Twista and Busta Rhymes can out rap Eminem then.
"Ether won broooo" "stop changing history bro"
Jay Z said he lost. Why do people try and change history? And Jay doesn’t rap better than Nas.
J Johnson he said he lost when they compared Either to SupaUgly
Marquise Parker exactly
this radio station steady on Hov's Dick
Eddie terrell he said if it was going to be anyone...it would be him because he stole all his moves. I think he said that as a little bit of a shot a Kobe.
Jay Z kills Nas in every way
Nas ,2PAC AND BIGGIE.....THATS IT
Nas & rakim was goats at 17
Jay came into his own at 25 & came into the conversation at 30 he just put out a album close to illmatic artistically
Yeah def lost me at the end
They should revisit this discussion now that Nas King's Disease is out.
they wont.... Jay has them under his thumb... no way in hell Jay can make a solid album today
Yep nas is the God MC
His new album is Fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😯🔥🔥🔥🔥
He has a trilogy of KD and Magic just those 4 >>>>Jay
Look I've been a big supporter of NAS since Illmatic didn't really appreciate Jay until blueprint but my unbias opinion is it's not even close if we're are talking rapping, mc, lyricisism it's not even a debate Nas hands down
Cadillactica I agree with you
Cadillactica Definitely. Nas is the GOAT when it comes to lyrical ability. BIG was the most skillful. Pac was the most impactful.
I'm convinced you guys don't know what it takes to be a great lyricist. The double entendres from Jay are out of this world. Maybe most are too simple to grasp it.
yunghopbitch But, content also plays a factor. Anyone can rhyme words, but it takes a lyricist to paint a picture.
Those entedres are not that impressive either. I rock with Jay, but I think he gets too much credit sometimes.
Em isn't the GOAT but he is top 5, Jay isn't
He’s not the greatest when we have Nas, Rakim, Kool G Rap, Redman, Ghostface, Raekwon, Kane... Etc
nobody remembers then..if they held me at gunpoint and said i should name one rakim kool g kane song i would get popped
@@yolinjenga225 low true 😂
All those mcs are great but they ain't got the consistency jay got... At Jay's age he's till putting out classic albums like 4:44 and he's able to adabt unlike those mcs you mentioned.
I got mad love for Nas but Jay is more versatile and that's a fact
Nas!!! Hands down
Jay z is the goat
Nasir Jones
Both songs are good and if it wasn't either rapper that would both ends someone career. Now Nas had a song H to the Omo that diss most in Roc back in the back.
If Nas didn’t drop that banger Stillmatic, his career would’ve been done.
Damn... I see this guy hating again! Rosenhate. ETHER is better bro! JayZ got merked on that battle. You keep losing credibility with hating on Nas.
“We’ve never seen a hip hop artist age into greatness?” Pound for pound Nas has just as many accomplishments in and outside of music
Like what its 2021 and his most notable thing other than Rap he has done is invest in a door bell
@@georgehorton5288 Google is your friend. Nas is a venture capitalist. Part owner of Guerilla Union (tour company behind Rock The Bells) owner of Mass Appeal. They’re expanding beyond a label/magazine. Sweet Chick restaurants. History clothing. And yes check his portfolio out of all his investments. There’s a reason Puff said at the Revolt awards when he gave Nas the icon award that “on Silicone Valley you done out hustled me” don’t take nothing but a second to see the numerous things Nas is involved in. I only listed a small portion
@@georgehorton5288 if you might paid attention to the new last week his half million dollar investment in coinbase is now worth 100million dollar so he definitely knows what he does
Lmao don't tell Rosenberg that Takeover was produced by Kanye West.
Nas is the Greatest!
Nas 🐐
Kendrick not outrapping Eminem. Staaaaahp it
icebergthegamer today he would Eminem has been washed for a long ass time
TheBestEver listened to chloraseptic remix? Yea em still a beast.
icebergthegamer em hasn’t put anything good out since 2002 and that’s just facts
TheBestEver that’s actually your opinion.
icebergthegamer wrong
Jay Z is hands down the best rapper ever. Dude has skills on the mic. Wordplay, flow, substance. Plus hes been doing it longer than the rest and has yet to fall off. Nobody can match him on his success or influence.
doing it Longer than who? hahahaha go back and study
Darl Aig than anybody whos still active and relevant.
julio garcia pac?
Jay Z loves to rap about how great his flows are, yet he is rapping off-beat for at least a few bars on most of his songs, lmao..
julio garcia FOH jayz susbstance is very limited
Is HOv so great yall forget why he got there?....Jayz is a spitter....always been....his bar are clear and concise...and also layered and have some dexterity to them....And he gave you album after album of hits...Of real music...not no throw away bars..or bullshit play songs like em.....he really the top guy of rap ..hands down!!
Hell no....Kendrick, as much as I love dude....he can not out rap Jay
Kendrick out raps both today overall he isnt one of top 7 Jay and Em both are
@Jarrel Ely WTF No
Well currently Cole is on a frenzy no one can outrap him these days... No one not even Kendrick. I mean just look at his career he has continuously gone up since his debut unlike Kendrick who took a dip after TPAB.
And it seems like Cole's trend would continue with THE FALL OFF as it has three bomb tracks as of now "Everybody Dies, False Prophets and 1985"
@Jarrel Ely Cole way too OP
From a track standpoint, Takeover is a much better record. The bars are cockier, truthful, and character assassinator. The song structure is also stronger with a harder beat, thematically sound, and bold to dedicate a verse to various people and make it sound whole. It’s just an awesome record.
Thank you!
Jay Z is the greatest MC of all time AND ITS NOT CLOSE!!!! He mastered every area of hip hop. He has the albums, lyricism, the accolades, the influence, the business. The everything. Who has had a better hip hop career than Jay? Nobody. It’s not close.
White ppl (who are irrelevant in hip hop) will say Eminem bc that's all they know.
need more conversations like this
Black Thought is better then Jay Z !
Brinx NPH oh you mean the mainstream albums ? Reasonable doubt didn't even have a good debut , it took years for that album to really do something. Jay Z has mainstream popularity . It does not make him the greatest MC . Jay Z makes good songs and is a good MC but he's not the greatest . Even famous rappers have what they call the supreme or Alien list and Jay isn't there .
Jay-Z is overrated asf.
So why is he not in the conversation
Brinx NPH the first 3 Roots albums are classics bro
We're not talking better........we're talking greater. Thought isn't close to Hov when it comes to greatness, and I love Thought
Jay is 48, Nas is 44, em is 45.
Nas is the Goat for multiple reasons.
1.) The fact he wrote and recorded Illmatic between the age of 17-20.
2.) His balance is unparalleled. For example he is the only Emcee who can have " made you look" " I Can" "book of rhymes" & "heaven" on the same LP
3.) The one aspect of Jay's career that was missingin comparison to Nas was insightful- deep records. I feel like 4:44 was ultimately created to bridge the gap. From NO I.D production to Damian Marley feature.
3.) Nas is judged far more harshly because of his debut. If Nas recorded the exact same albums as those R Kelly collaborations he would have been crucified. Because Jay did it, it's acceptable.
4.) People talk about Nas' beat selection, but Jay's was trending the same way, until Kanye & Just Blaze saved him musically.
5.) If you include Lost Tapes, Nas' catalog is much better, and far more creative. People give Jay a pass for Vol 3, Best of Both World's, & Blueprint 2 &3 which were collectively lazy.
5.) If it's based strictly on Music, Nas has better albums overall.
Damn right 🔥🔥King Of New York G.O.A.T
Your wrong. Jay Z has a lot of introspective songs. This whole thing false
Takeover was more scathing to Prodigy than to Nas, in my opinion. Jay sounded like a disappointed fan going at NaS, them shots was Scooby snacks lol. Ether went at Jays whole existence, had him crying on the radio the next day lmao
His soul was touched after that joint dropped. Matter of fact, it still reverberating.....his stans been tying to rewrite the history ever since. Then try to deflect and say he won the battle cause Nas signed to Def Jam LMAO!!!! ETHER damn near is apart of the hip-hop lexicon. All that success can't hide how Nas exposed niggas' whole character and existence.
He's not the goat to me but I feel like alot of younger fans havn't heard jayz at his full potential. They only know his mainstream stuff. They see him more as a businessman. Once I listened to resonable doubt and the black album I gained way more respect for him. But there's better rappers. Nas for one is alot better.
The biggest thing Nas did with Ether was make people look at Jay differently for a second. By using Tupac's sample he put Tupac fans against Jay. Then he turned some Biggie fans against Jay with a few lines. So basically making it all of the greatest MC's against Jay-z. "Whose the best Pac Nas and Big". The other little shots were just everything people who hated Jay were already saying...icing on the cake. To this day some people still hesitate to put Jay over Big and Pac even though he has definitely put the work in.
*Rakim is 50 not 48*
😉
Rakim is 2 years older
Shabazz 7:77 Thank u!!
Nas hands down. Nas murdered the entire Roc Label by himself!
Jay Z is the greatest rap artist of all time if you compare resumes. Forget opinions, go by facts.... longevity, delivery, sales, money, lyrics, etc... There may be other artists that you consider a "better rapper" but Jay has the complete package.
Muhammad Ali is the goat , he was rapping before it was called rapping , dude was a natural at free style
Nas is the goat and ether clearly beat takeover.
nas the G.O.A.T
"The Jones's can't keep up, maybe my nigga Nas, but I got STRONGER after Ether, Wow..."
This line lets you know which song was harder. #Ether
what does having lots of money and doing a video in the louvre have to do with being a great emcee?
Hov won y'all just dont wanna give it up!
Cee Austin won what pop culture context when Hot97 and others promoted him to this status
Cee Austin Hov most definitely did win. Bar for bar not even close.
hov didn't "win". takeover is a better song than ether. ether is a better diss track tho. I hope that made sense.
Nas won
murphydboi yeah bar for bar nas bodied him
Imo Scarface always been my favorite MC all time.
When you run out of content to get people talking, u can always count on controversial MC debate. Esp either offend Nas Fans, Down play Jay Z’s greatness, or give a ridiculous top 10 list.
Jay z is the greatest of all time
I honestly believe people discredit Jay-Z only because he has gone commercial but the talent can’t be denied
Jay z is the G.O.A.T, PERIOD, and takeover is the difference between metaphors and real rap.
Foh nigga I fw jay but all he said was nas last albums was garbage and he hit his baby moms and he richer lol NAS ETHER is crack One mic crack rewind crack this is all stillmatic
Takeover did not age well. People don’t even remember that RECORD.. But ETHER is now used as a verb for destroying an opponent.. NAS the GOAT
Objectively Jay z is absolutely the best of all time. He's the most consistent unlike Eminem and nas and has 3 certified classic albums.
Antonio honestly he probably has more classics people sleep on American gangster and vol 2
Em's first three albums are all classic. Stan is better than any of Hov's songs. And he killed renegade.
Illmatic, IWW, Stillmatic, and LT1 are all certified classics. Nas has at least 4 classics. KD has potential to be his 5th. No skippable songs on Kings Disease.
Are we forgetting Remy Shether? Nicki Minaj has yet to recover from that diss. Shether gave Cardi B the space to win and become the first female rapper to have 2 number 1 records.
Jay the greatest of all time, no one will come after him. GOAT
Biggie maybe
My vote goes to Nasir
guest in the culture
Thanks Ebro for this insight and knowlege
We all know Peter “Meatball” Rosenberg obliterated LL Cool J and should def be in the conversation
Jay is basically Beyoncé’s husband at this point. Nas is life.
Funny enough, i was on datpiff this weekend and listening to the rocafella freestyles wit Flex. Eventho jay didn’t rap, (to ebro’s point that we don’t hear from jay often) it’s those moments of his career that as a fan, we’d love to hear jay talk about and drop some of his perspective of different times. Not gossip bullshit or none of that. Curiosity over the arts.
Anyone know about that CZcams vid Roseburg mentioned? Link?
Going by their criteria, just throwing on a beat a just rapping. Without question......WITHOUT QUESTION Notorious BIG is the greatest rapper of all time. It sucks we dont get to see what BIG would be like today if he were still alive.
Ebro I appreciate the facts you droppin in this vid fam! For real
in my experience the people who think the takeover was the better diss often also think hov is the goat, so……
Good debate!
“Everybody wanna b Hov and Hov still alive”
J. Ivy and Ye had better verses in that song
Nas was is n will always be humble..he don't play ether coz he knows he won n he always says jays is like brother..all the hiphop is his brother n he don't want to disrespect him now by playing it over n over again. That makes him the big man whereas jay still plays takeover which shows he still isn't recovered from that "ether"🤣
Good stuff
Jay Z is the more successful musician. But Nas is absolutely the better MC
People will be talking about Jay-z 100 years from now.
Jay Z was constantly great NaS at Prime was THE GREATEST
End of video review: Rosenberg, enough. Why are you so hyped, calm down you light skin.
facts
White skin 😂
Nice use of that Kanye line bro
LadyIsTheChamp
Light skin is the best, jk of the day
kanye aint in this convo, lol its hip hop people are passionate, you new here??
Thanks to jayz the world got to see the mona lisa unaltered true image. When it comes to art the Value based on provenance, media,
Literature and audience. He broke the Laws of art and humanities. Truly God Level
Please tell me who is in yo top 10.. appreciate greatness. 2nd what are your credentials? Its prospective....
Ether won Bro 😁😁
I listened to Takeover and Ether back to back yesterday and it's not even close. Ether was dope, but at one point Nas was just throwing random insults. Jay Z chopped up Nas AND Mobb Deep. I'm just saying, Jay Z was more surgical and had more finesse. And brought facts only. Nas may rap better than Jay from time to time but Jay won that beef based on lyricism.
Be Eazy Another Myth. What did jayz say that was factual?
Two days till the podcast drops!
Jayz was smart, he was older and came out with the 90"s class instead of the 80"s.. very smart move..
Anything rosenthot says is an easy downvote when he speaks on black culture.
Jay Z is the GOAT!!.. position 2 thru 5 is up to debate
Nas is twice the rapper jay z will ever be
Shouting down Rosenberg was my favorite part
"THATS WHAT A BATTLE IS!!!!!" Lol, Laura voice
Jay z is the greatest rapper of alltime nobody has done it better period..luv'em or hate'em
No
@@eddiearcadian332 whose better?
Jay. Point blank period. I own all of his music since "Reasonable Doubt". His lyrical skills just based on his entendres alone, which he was doing before others thought to really try to do it, is on a whole other level. You can listen to Jay's music over and over and catch stuff you missed prior if you're not good at catching that type of word play. The new song is just a small example of this skill. That's why ppl don't understand how the title of the song DOES go with the video and it's filming location. Called black ppl monkeys and apes, but yet everybody is going apesh--- for them. Literally and figuratively... lol. Respect the catalog, the evolution, his culture awareness and the consistency in music and society all together that others have not been able to do. Oh and yes, Beyonce is a nice "cherry on top", but he was dope before being with her and would be if never was with her. Drop the mic... 🎤
Big L Biggie and Big Pun were dropping way more double entendre
I remember when 2pac dropped Against All Odds👀👀👀 and hit'em up I was like oh shitt👀👀👀😂😹🙀
Is difficult to find hop hop specialist on that level now days :)
2Pac
I agree. Makaveli
BIG is a better emcee than Pac and so are 15 other rappers. Do you know the definition of Emcee??? A wordsmith, flow, cadence, delivery, double entendres, etc.....I love Pac, he is the greatest Hip Hop Artist of all time but his verses lacked technique and his word choice were repetitive
You must live in LA if you believe BIG's lyrics has not influenced anybody
even if your criteria is grab a mic and a turntable jayz still goat emcee long as guru his dj
They aren't the same age.
Rakim is 50 and Jay doesn't turn 49 until Dec. I mean, its a mute point, but they keep saying that.
Just watched J n B in Copenhagen this past Saturday. “TAKEOVER” was played, at least the music was.
I dont get this world where it's a question that jayz can ball out with just a mic and a beat....Kendrick dont have any albums better than Reasonable Doubt or The Blueprint...
Hov is the best of all time.
No lol Jay can't beat: L, Pun, Pac, nas, Big, Cube.
Why all of a sudden am I seeing all these people trying to discredit Nas? Ether was momumental. Nas has superior lyrical and artistic merit. Jay and Beyonce shooting a video in the Louvre is the most shallow reason for trying to make them seem like the most artistic individuals, when they really aren’t. I really can’t believe this Jay Z and Beyonce bandwagoning it’s fucking embarrassing. Success does not equal greatness, especially when most of that success can be attributed to others.
Good convo
