I don't understand how NAS is not in the running of this conversation. It's a little ridiculous that people keep downgrading NAS who is probably the quintessential MC of our time, who doesn't really care about being in the Limelight who is more of an artist then a popstar. We have to look at his background and look what his father was and still is about and as far as being socially aware Nas has been dropping science since day one so I really don't understand nor do I get this ongoing argument especially when this argument is coming from these three in the one in the middle who sometimes needs to keep his mouth shut. I'm sorry I don't mean to go there but I get tired of people commenting or taking a survey on our music, this is our music.

I also find it funny that this guy Rosenberg has an opinion on hip hop, now I know I may offend some people when I say this but that's okay this is our music birth out of the Bronx 1973 Kool herc. I don't need someone who does not look like my people to form an opinion about everything concerning Hip Hop I understand we're reaching the masses and that's okay but when you start to form an opinion about our music, our culture which you have little understanding of then I have a problem. Nas by far is our ambassador, I don't know how these people get these radio jobs what makes them better than any of us why is it that their opinion is valued I would love to have a sit-down conversation with anyone of them and debate in all seriousness about who is the best who was not the best in regards to hip hop. I mean let's be honest like nah said you wanted to be on every last one of my classics, it would seem like to me Jay Z clearly is following the footsteps of Nas and terms of his Investments and even his social awareness but if we paid attention we would know that Nas has been socially aware since the beginning of his rap career.

Nas hands down, just putting these nigguz on a beat and say go to work??? Nas!!! Ether vs Takeover? Ether. And Nas is doing alright for himself, I hate when people try to compare people's pockets. Nas been eating good since It Was Written... Leave that man alone and let him live comfortable in his lane. Nas good, his family good, his business dealings is good, his restaurants good... He'd be better without the baby mama drama but Nas good and he's a legend and he's been a legend longer than Jay and he did it solo for the most part. No team, no Roc, no Dynasty, no Dame, no Russel just plantation Columbia records for the first 7 albums... He did good. I'm proud of Nas.

That’s what’s so great about hip hop but to say it’s not even close is disingenuous. They had a battle for the crown for a reason. I think most fans are bias though and probably don’t even listen in depth to any mc who is the rival to their favorite. Listening to jay and nas albums just from the 90’s alone and it’s hard to determine who’s better. It basically just come down to taste and preference. Nas has a more relatable persona and jay has a more elite, wealthy persona that most can’t relate to. But if we really “listening to music and not just skimming through it” they both have crazy crazy bars and flows.

Jay is 48, Nas is 44, em is 45.
Nas is the Goat for multiple reasons.
1.) The fact he wrote and recorded Illmatic between the age of 17-20.
2.) His balance is unparalleled. For example he is the only Emcee who can have " made you look" " I Can" "book of rhymes" & "heaven" on the same LP
3.) The one aspect of Jay's career that was missingin comparison to Nas was insightful- deep records. I feel like 4:44 was ultimately created to bridge the gap. From NO I.D production to Damian Marley feature.
3.) Nas is judged far more harshly because of his debut. If Nas recorded the exact same albums as those R Kelly collaborations he would have been crucified. Because Jay did it, it's acceptable.
4.) People talk about Nas' beat selection, but Jay's was trending the same way, until Kanye & Just Blaze saved him musically.
5.) If you include Lost Tapes, Nas' catalog is much better, and far more creative. People give Jay a pass for Vol 3, Best of Both World's, & Blueprint 2 &3 which were collectively lazy.
5.) If it's based strictly on Music, Nas has better albums overall.

He's not the goat to me but I feel like alot of younger fans havn't heard jayz at his full potential. They only know his mainstream stuff. They see him more as a businessman. Once I listened to resonable doubt and the black album I gained way more respect for him. But there's better rappers. Nas for one is alot better.

The biggest thing Nas did with Ether was make people look at Jay differently for a second. By using Tupac's sample he put Tupac fans against Jay. Then he turned some Biggie fans against Jay with a few lines. So basically making it all of the greatest MC's against Jay-z. "Whose the best Pac Nas and Big". The other little shots were just everything people who hated Jay were already saying...icing on the cake. To this day some people still hesitate to put Jay over Big and Pac even though he has definitely put the work in.

Jay. Point blank period. I own all of his music since "Reasonable Doubt". His lyrical skills just based on his entendres alone, which he was doing before others thought to really try to do it, is on a whole other level. You can listen to Jay's music over and over and catch stuff you missed prior if you're not good at catching that type of word play. The new song is just a small example of this skill. That's why ppl don't understand how the title of the song DOES go with the video and it's filming location. Called black ppl monkeys and apes, but yet everybody is going apesh--- for them. Literally and figuratively... lol. Respect the catalog, the evolution, his culture awareness and the consistency in music and society all together that others have not been able to do. Oh and yes, Beyonce is a nice "cherry on top", but he was dope before being with her and would be if never was with her. Drop the mic... 🎤
