A retinal tear is often the precursor to a torn retina. But if you know the warning signs you can prevent a more serious problem. Holly Firfer explains.
My father is blind due to a detached retina that would not stay (after 7 surgeries) it breaks my heart. He also ha macula degeneration in his other eye. Breaks my heart.
Had this happen at age 23 in my left eye. Had it corrected by laser, but the scar tissue have created a wave in that eye that distorts the image I see. Now at 26 both my retina’s are thinning and I have to get them checked thoroughly twice a year.
Hi I also was first treated for tears at that age. I would like to know how the laser has changed your vision. I feel I might have the same issue but would like to know
Nina A hey! They comment I made was two months ago, so it’s not progressed at all since. When it did tear 3 years ago I could see out of half that eye and the rest was black. The surgery gave me my peripherals back in that eye but the image is distorted from the fix. They repaired it very well though, it’s just a side effect. Still to this day though I can’t read with my “good eye” closed and heavily rely on it because the other one isn’t very useful to see hard lines in words so they end up looking broken up. Furthermore, (kind of off topic) I went to lasik to see if they could do anything for me and they gave me the OK. The day of my surgery the surgeon came in and said he was refusing to work on my eye because of the previous tear.
Spitball oh no I’m sorry to hear that. Luckily you were able to recover your vision back even though you have to deal with the side effect. I want to get lasik too but have had preventative laser done in both eyes. So I wonder if I would no longer be eligible to undergo lasik. I didn’t have any symptoms and went in for a regular eye exam when the ophthalmologist, so it could be the type of laser treatment you got different to the one I had done?
I have been diagnosed with horse shoe tear by my optometrist, so it was helpful to send me quickly to the hospital to have it looked by ophthalmologist and confirmed the diagnosis lasered afterwards and advised to see them in 2 weeks time,is the most scariest that happens to me surely😢
Amazing sophistication and technology involved in correcting retina detachment. Only God's infinite intelligence and grace could have inspired this precise medical procedure. Thanks to all the eye surgeon pioneers who developed this procedure in bringing light where there was darkness. Peace and God's grace to all those undergoing this advanced, highly effective procedure. Consult a retina specialist, follow the doctor's checklist on recovery, pamper your eye, and above all give thanks to God for watching over you in your surgery.
Id like to send god a thank you card for giving kids cancer. Got a mailing address because when i bring it up at church they always tell me this isnt the place. God can go and shove his prayers up his ass. Only god im worried about is TIME.
Going through this at the moment at 60. Not much fun, first appointment and laser surgery fixed the tear a month ago. Today a scan of the retina detected a second tear. Next step is an injection into the eye which should help.
Well, retinal tears have taken a back seat i now have on the same side as my retinal tear a brain tumor. Spent 3 days in ICU and now treatment to keep me alive until the curtain closes. God Bless all those who are suffering and may your recovery be fast.
I am 18 and i had 467 laser shots for my left eye last week. Probably i will need more laser shots to stick the tears on my right eye too. It is not great. It really isn't.
Holy crap. Sounds like me. I’m a 47 yr old GP, that thought had a PVD, later diagnosed as retinal detachment 2 weeks later. I’m now day 20 post op, follow up 7 days ago. But there is an intermittent “xmas ornament” that I thought was part of post op inflammation. I might pop back to them in another week if it’s still there
@@dr.divyam5717 initially visual flash aura - like a circle of light. Then a black grape, then a thick black worm came into view. After the OCT and dilatation and PVD diagnosis had the pepper snowstorm until I noticed an intermittent black curtain rising up and down two weeks later. Wasn’t barndoor. Subsequent to that op - symptoms persisted - 2 A+E attendances and later 3 weeks after that attendance in late January, reattended as shadows encroached and later central vis distortion - another detachment - more serious. Saved central vision but it’s distorted and i have resulting lack of stereopsis. Could be worse- could’ve lost the r eye retina if I left it for another 24 hrs
I just went to the eye doctor to get a basic ck up and they discovered I had a retinal tear, I was immediately sent to have laser surgery....I had no symptoms that I was aware of prior to my visit...but wait, I was having alot, I mean alot of floaters all of a sudden and did notice a red floater....
Hey, how are you doing now after 6 months? I hope the fix is working and everything is good. I have same situation here! Got my tear lasered few days ago.
I went to a chiropractor and he banged a Activator into the back of my neck and I had sore eyes the next day. I went to the eye hospital and they diagnosed Posterior Viterous Detachment
