What people don't understand is no one is safe from HIV. Even in marriage you can be exposed. I salute everyone who can accept and live in your truth.
Yes. I encourage people(even married) to be tested every 2-3 months(4-6 times a year). Even if you are infected and catch it early as opposed to not getting tested at all, YOU AND GOD can make all the difference of your outcome! You>ANY DISEASE

@gemar McKinney people understand it, but they get comfortable and don’t think it will ever happen to them. It’s like a child would never think their mother or a loved one would harm them because of their relationship and that’s how things should be, but we don’t live in an ideal world.

My brother was diagnosed in 1999 at 24 1/2 and I was right there with him that day. Back then I worked in the HIV unit in the hospital in the city we were in. He had so many symptoms and lost over 50 pounds in a month and I encouraged him to get tested. He cried so much that day. It was August 24th, 1999. He did not take meds for 10 years and I made him get on meds for fear of him dying. He is now almost 49 and it's 24 years later and he's undetectable and healthy.
Did he get it from a woman? Many people don't believe that women can spread hiv.
What was the reason he chose not to take meds? Was it depression preventing him?
@@sensimania back then they told him that his T-cell count was still high so he didn’t have to take meds.He was still in denial though about his diagnosis and kept retesting only to get the same result. 10 years later his T-cell count dropped below 200. But it took 10 years. My aunt has had it for 32 years and her T-cell count dropped 5 years in. She is now undetectable also. She had a child born with it because she didn’t know she had it. That child is now 30 and undetectable with an 8 year old that is HIV negative

This just allowed me to recount all the times I had unprotected sex recklessly. In the heat of the moment not considering the circumstances. I thank God when I got tested I was negative. This is not a game I will not role the dice anymore

my friends sister caught HIV when she was 17 too in 1992. Very scary back then but now she has 5 kids and lives her life fully.

My friend just contracted hiv, he feels now like a walking disease, a walking corpse, he lost all his self-esteem. I hope one day he can feel worthy and human.

About 11 years ago I had an inconclusive HIV test. I didn’t even know until I came back months later for birth control. I had the longest week of my life waiting for my updated results. I was negative but it surely gave me a different outlook on life 🙏🏽

You're not alone, I'm positive as well. I found out in my 4th month of pregnancy. Approaching 6 years later, my beautiful and vivacious daughter I doing great. I have been undetected, although I do have complications from that diagnosis. About a year ago, I found out that my HIV meds brought on my drug-induced Lupus. I have a lot to be thankful for and consider myself blessed. We need to stop being complacent about HIV and talk about it as you are. 4 years ago on March 01,2017 I lost my baby sister to hiv, and I miss her soooooo much. I would do anything to just to see my sister again.

I'm glad they have better drugs to help. Unfortunately my brother in law caught it early when the drugs were just starting. He told all his friends his family didn't love him, when we found out he was dying we were by his side day and night for three days. His friends new his family did care. I was the last person he talked to. He said he loved me. It was So hard for him to talk. That made me feel so special. I miss him.
I want to set up a house for black women living with HIV. I have a friend who has HIV and she calls me every time she goes through an illness. She's thriving and her numbers are good...but she has taught me so much...and I thank God that she did.

You are truly amazing. At 17? Wow. Your 17 year old self had to be really strong, determined and persistent. Unfortunately, the stigma is still there. Even I gave into it admittedly; judging people with it. Listening to stories like yours on CZcams has really helped me out of that mind set. @@iamshadawnmccants I need your advice don't know what else to do. Here's my story..I had something stuck into my back on a bus in NYC November 2020. Im almost certain the guy seated behind me did it. This is where I screwed up my life because I didn't go to the hospital. When I finally did go to the hospital it was days later when I started feeling sick. it was too late stop whatever it was, and I really sick eight months later. During all this time I have tested negative for HIV. However I had Hep A antibody, so eight I got the vaccine or I was exposed to it. Think is was coinfected and that's why with all my HIV symptoms I am still showing negative seventeen months later. I don't know what else to do and I'm getting sicker everyday. Could you just respond even though I know this might be too much for you to answer.

I've been In Long term relationships for the majority of my dating years one 18 years,That was with my daughters dad and being that I suffer with asthma and allergies im very health conscious. So even then I always got tested ,even tho we were together so long, I had to be sure We also went together why not i have nothing to hide and neither should he,then i was in a 7 year relationship/ then engagment,found out he cheated but he also stop having sex with me which was a good thing i still immediately ,actually the next day went and got tested again.it came back negative that was 2017 I've been celibate ever since i just not the type to sleep around,have no intrest in stuff like that. I keep all my test result in my medical files at home And if i even dated again. You absolutley have to show me a updated std & HIV test result...and I'll do the same why not ....

My aunt worked in an AIDS house in the early 1980-1990s. Unfortunately, the medication was not as advanced as today. Also, she received them at their last and terminal stage. People from all walks of life was there. Primarily, sexually transmitted was the most common way accounting for 75- 80 percent. Blood from IV was second accounting for 15 to 20 percent.
They lived a life of isolation and total rejection! For the ones who visited them, they could not have ANY infections, open wounds etc. People were secretive then because of the stigma. No one really talked about it. People were ignorant and did not want to help them but she did. She took them to doctors visits and got their medications. She didn't fear people with this disease. She feared the outside world because she didn't know what they had. Sadly, she got disabled. The news was bitter sweet. No HIV but a heart defect. That was a story all in it's own. Since it was not an on the job injury from exposure to HIV or AIDS, she was somewhat isololated like them and left with medication. She was not stigmatized because heart patients were viewed differently.

Awesome story. I dont know what its like to live with hiv. But i get what shes saying about stigma and shame snd guilt. Having any health issue is so hard to say outloud im dealing with an invisible disease or illness (fibroids, mental health, spinal stenosis etc) definitely needed.
