The Boston Celtics have been the clear-cut most dominant team in the NBA throughout the course of the 2024 season, and it hasn’t really been close. With their new offseason additions in both Jrue Holiday & Kristaps Porzingis, many of us were curious how long it would take to get chemistry together, along with what Joe Mazzulla would build the Celtics offense into over time. And as of recently, we’ve been seeing some things from this Boston team that I don’t think all of us necessarily expected to see.
Let’s start with the Celtics offense. Because this side of the basketball is currently on a historical pace by somehow using some of the simplest concepts possible. Pairing Jrue Holiday and Porzingis with a starting lineup rounded out by Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, & Derrick White has resulted in nothing short of basketball bliss. And when you couple that with the extremely deep rotation in guys like Al Horford, Payton Pritchard, Sam Hauser, Luke Kornet, etc, this could very well be the most productive NBA offense we’ve ever seen in NBA history.
Then, there’s also the Boston Celtics defense, which ranks among the best in the entire NBA in its own right. Jrue Holiday’s defense along with the impact of Kristaps Porzingis have clearly only created an even larger task at hand for opponents than what they had to deal with in years past. And if the Boston Celtics keep on the pace they’ve been over these last few weeks, all signs could point to an NBA finals appearance in 2024.

One thing you fail to mention here is when the 3s or drives arent working, they also are a top 5 post-up team with the best post-up player in the nba in kristaps porzingis.

@@Lor_Sterling efficiency is everything for certain shots like FT or wide-open 3s or catch and shoot 3s. FG% based on lobs, dunks or layups doesnt mean anything. Efficiency on post-up shot actually means something as its not an outright dunk/layup.

Bro ya need to do a new video on how they’re NOT shooting a ton of three’s now. Ten games in a row now they’ve been about 35 or under each game. They’re winning in different ways and showing they’re more than just a bunch of deep shooters (bc they’re not).

Yeah, unless something unexpected happens like injuries or Butler turning into MJ for a series or Kawhi Leonard turning time back and playing with the same domination and carrying like he did during that Raptors run and then there still pretty high chances celtics would win with how good and not one dimensional they are. They were already a really good team and adding Porzingis and Holiday is basically a cheat code since it's not only the names that perform but also how well they fit and Porzingis with Holiday fit just like glove in Celtics.
Or maybe something realistic happens and Jrue remembers he's a 35% career 3pt shooter, the 3pt shots stop falling like crazy in the playoffs when every shot has mental pressure cause it's do or die and the Celtics sadly realize that they have no fucking inside presence whatsoever and they go against a team with someone like Giannis or Jokic and they get demolished inside... which by the way is waaaay worse because Giannis dominating means he's shooting 70-80% from the field while attracting a double team every single time... and Jokic is even worse cause he can do everything offensively even better than Giannis...
Also when the 3pt shots aren't falling (cause it will happen in high pressure and high energy playoff games where you're significantly more tired than in the reg season) who's gonna score inside? Uuuummmm... hmmmm... yeaaaaah... NOBODY... 3pt shot chucking is all good and sexy when it works in the low pace and lazy regular season but in the playoffs 3pt shooting is great but you need to have an inside presence... and Soft-zingis isn't it... also the Celtics lack inside presence on defense too... Porzingis is too soft to play Giannis or Jokic and Horford is 37-38 at this point...
I'm not saying Celtics can't win but their approach to the game is immature and stupid... they take way too many contested shots, way too many hard shots which they make cause of their talent but that talent will be wasted once again when the playoffs come around... turning a game into a shootaround isn't the answer... and the "analytics" can go fuck themselves cause they don't account for mental pressure, fatigue and game pace...

I watch every game. They can shoot, drive, defend, and their bench often elevates the score. They pass well. KP is the difference and DW is the overlooked weapon. They win it all!

Great transition D, they’re pushing the ball into the paint, getting to the free thrown line, taking under 35 3’s per game (under 20 last game) and not playing anymore hero-ball bullsh!t. I’m so excited these last 10 games watching REAL basketball and not just a bunch a dudes standing around hoisting up 25 footers all night.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves, we have had an easy scedule in the last 9 games. The next 5 games will be a good test to see where we really stand

There’s an objective change to their game - I just hope they continue playing this style the rest of the season bc I truly believe that scoring in the paint and getting to the line, with good D, is their best chance to win. I feel better about 30-35 3’s per game than I go 40-50 per game, ya know?

Tatum and Brown will fall in love with their lazy contested pull up jumpers cause they think they're prime Kobe cause some retard on TV said they are and they will pay the price for it... also the Celtics have zero inside presence in a half court offense setup... Porzingis just loves to stand at the 3pt line and Horford isn't an inside scorer anymore... so overall I think the Celtics will be beaten by a team that has that "money in the bag" scorer inside like Giannis or Jokic... someone that when the jumpers aren't falling can take the ball and just tell the defense to "shove it up their ass" cause there isn't anything they can do about stopping him...
Also in the playoffs all these contested jumpers become way more difficult because 1) you're way more fatigued and 2) there is mental pressure too cause in reg season who gives a fuck if you make it or not... in the playoffs making or missing it is life or death... and the Celtics this year have a ton of pressure on them cause everyone is expecting them to annihilate the opposition... so if a series goes wrong and they find themselves trailing they could really crack under pressure and start building brick walls all day...
Great job by brad stevens. Setting aside sentimentality and emotion for the team's needs. A huge upgrade.
Crazy that even if you sub out KP, you still get a quality big with Horford who can as well shoot the 3 and play defense. Then even if you are missing one of the two and had to sub one out, you get Kornet who they can just lob the ball or who will just put back missed shots.
Celtics are top heavy but they still have quality bench players with Horford, Pritchard, and Hauser who can shoot the 3-ball and play defense.

Honestly none of this has surprised me. I’ve been getting golden state superteam vibes since they got KP but obviously they just have to prove they can stay at this level in the playoffs.

The most recent game against the 76ers was great to watch. As a celtics fan, when I saw the 3’s weren’t falling, I thought we were just gonna keep chucking them up and it would make us lose a game we should’ve won. That didn’t happen though, they chose to attack downhill and go for the high percentage shot, or try to get sent to the line. Decisions like that will be crucial come playoff time when the 3’s don’t fall. Good W☘️☘️
Was happy they chose to drive instead of shoot. Also went 34-37 on free throws compared to Philly going 11-12. Making more foul shots than your opponent even takes is a game changer. Just hope we can stick to this mentality come playoffs
So I'm 44 years old and from the time I was old enough to walk so basically before I could even remember I watch the Celtics every night. All my family members are huge sports fans and that's what we do when there's a game on we watch it regardless Christmas or a funeral it doesn't matter I don't miss a game and neither does any of my family members. I got to tell you I can't remember seeing a Celtics team run so efficiently offensively and defensively since 85-86 celtics that team went 67-15 now I don't think we'll match that record this season. But also it was a different era. But if they keep this up this team has a great chance of bringing home banner #18!It's a blast watching them play and and even if you don't like the celtics but you're a fan of basketball I encourage anyone to give them a watch!

from what i've seen. the celtics are really good at hunting weak defenders and getting the mismatches they want. its such a simple concept that almost always forces the defense to over help and leads to open shooters.
I'm pretty sure the Spurs are going to start doing this when they build around Wemby :D

The 2nd most impressive thing about this team is just how damn good KP has been playing. The MOST IMPRESSIVE THING IS DERRICK WHITE. At this point I wouldn’t disagree for all NBA honors. Night in and night out crushes both ends of the floor. Couldn’t ask for more. On top of all of that is putting up NUMBERS IN THE CLUTCH!!!
They just do everything well. If three's not working they post up and drive. The defense is top 2. What i see out them is they love playing as a team and that is fun to watch.

I feel the under looked aspect is either that they rotate a guy out on games. KP sits games, other guys take a night off and they still roll by 20 minimum...... or absolutely nobody cares who scores the basket, they've all decided to average 18 a game and have no problem with Pritchard or Houser coming on for 18 pts while they put on a tshirt and cheerlead. the rest of the league seems to hunt for personal scoring records while this team does the opposite
I just hope that the Celtics have learned from their heartbreaks and cap this season off with a ring. These dudes are all young, even Kristaps and Dwhite are just 28. Only Jrue and Big Al are in their 30s with this core. The floodgates can open if this team finally wins one ring

id say luke is also a lethal 3pt shooter. Ever since he made 2 in his debut the celtics have had to wait to bring that skill out or else they would win too much
We can all hope. Nationally while they get respect they get a lot of skepticism because of some of the losses. Out of the 12 losses, I'd say they have 3 "bad" ones (even though every single team has at least that many nearly 60 games in). The Bucks, the Clippers, the Lakers. Then add in the IST loss to Indiana where they faded in the last 5 minutes and the close loss to Denver, blowing the lead late against the Warriors, and it makes the media think they are suspect. But anyone that has watched the majority of games see what you show here, they go through periods where they just DOMINATE teams. All that said, if they play the way they played these last 3 weeks they are going to have an amazing chance to win it all.

Seen a lot less of that this year. Turnovers are way down with Jrue in the lineup. Mazzula’s system didn’t work with Smart and Robert Williams. You legit cannot double or trap the Jay’s now because then KP is wide open, or jrue and white or wide open. Miami doesn’t have an answer yet, but I won’t count out Spo.
@@timsweeney684 You don't need to double trap them... just let them take pull up jumpers all night long... they love taking contested pull ups which is THE worst shot to take if your name is not Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant and they're bound to brick lots of them... a team that is disciplined (talking Duncan Spurs level of discipline) and doesn't get emotional every time Tatum or Brown make some ridiculous contested pull up would massacre these Celtics... Tatum and Brown are playing immature and undisciplined basketball so just let them do that and you'll win...
Also the Celtics don't have a top tier inside scorer which means that when the jumpers aren't falling they're screwed while their biggest opponents have THE BEST inside scorers in the league (Giannis and Jokic) that can literally massacre the Celtics defense all night long without breaking a sweat since the Celtics also don't have any significant defender to throw at them (Porzingis is too soft and Horford is too old). So yeah, in a battle of easy 2s inside vs Celtics 3s all night long I'm betting on the 2s my man... cause Giannis could end up dunking the ball so many times that he could end up at 70% from the field...
The Celtics are walking a thin line between "efficiency" and stupidity... they better end up on the right side of that line or they'll be screwed...

In the playoff the key won't be wide open and I'm sorry but if I'm the Bucks for example (which they will probably find in the ECF) I'm letting them shoot 50 3s a night and see where that gets them... if the Celtics win with that lazy shootaround basketball then I'm ok with it if I'm Doc Rivers cause shooting near 40% from 3 in 4 out of 7 games in a playoff series while taking 50 3s ain't happening... also in the playoffs teams actually BOX OUT WHEN YOU MISS THE SHOT while in the reg season it's embarrassing how easily teams allow offensive rebounds out of laziness... finally the Celtics have one major flaw which nobody talks about... they can't stop one specific type of player on defense and that type is dominant big men because they lack big men of their own (Porzingis is tall but soft as fuck)... and guess what, their two biggest threats (Bucks and Nuggets) have the two most dominant players in the league by a mile (Giannis and Jokic) and they're both unstoppable big men who could very realistically go nuts against the Celtics (Giannis could dunk so many times that he'd be scoring 40ppg on 70% from the field which is a death sentence for any team)
Celtics are very talented team but their type of basketball is working in the lazy and no-stakes reg season waaaaaay better than in the high stakes and massive pressure playoff games....people think that Jrue Holiday and Derrick White have turned into prime Steph and Klay but what makes prime Steph and Klay special is that they could do what they did against any defense, any opponent and with the pressure of the world on their shoulders... there's a reason they're considered the best shooter of all time (Steph) and a top 5 shooter ever (Klay)... endless shot pull up jumper shot chucking will NOT work in the playoffs the same way as it works in the reg season... PERIOD... if you think otherwise then you're clueless about the game of basketball

The Celtics lived and then absolutely died by the 3 vs the heat in the play offs last year. The couldnt buy a bucket but were still chucking up reckless 3s. Hopefully they don’t do the same this season and if the 3 ball ain’t droppin, start driving and posting up and taking mid range jumpers. Joe Mazulla is a terrible coach and needs to learn how to call time out stop runs and switch their game play when it’s not working. It seems like they’re getting better at it this season because they got rid of Marcus smart and added Jrue holiday who’s a dog and Kristaps jumper is wet 💦. But we still lack a consistent healthy big and stopping joker if we meet them in the finals is gonna be tough. If the Celtics don’t win the championship this year the coach needs to be fired

One thing about Boston Sports the Bruins just had a year like this last year and lost in the first round don't get your hopes up just because we have a stacked team the winner always comes out in the end so let's see if the Celtics have that drive to push past every team to win one finally
Also the Celtics play a style of basketball that is tailor made for the reg season... tons of pull up jumpers, tons of long range shots... these are shots that fall way easier in the reg season when there is no pressure and nobody gives a fuck whether you make them or not... in the playoffs where the pressure is huge having a Giannis or a Jokic to dump the ball inside to and just let them dominate the defense for easy buckets from 3ft or less with insane efficiency (70+%) is literally a cheatcode cause these are the shots that mental pressure doesn't affect much... a dunk is a dunk, Giannis ain't missing it... a low post Jokic score with some godly footwork and pump fakes is an easy shot...
Celtics fans are getting way too hyped up about this team but their playstyle could very very easily crumble under the playoff pressure... I know analysts love their excel files and their advanced stats that say that the 3pt shot is "the best, most efficient shot in the game" but shooting 50 3s will never win you a ring... scoring from all 3 levels and especially inside the paint which is the easiest and most efficient scoring with the lowest margin of error...
Biggest surprise is that Tatum finally has stopped dominating the ball for five seconds every time he touches it and how willing he is to hit open shooters. That will help him come playoff time and bring a title to this team.

Bro the bucks have beat the Celtics a total of twice in the past 2 years, and one of those was a game where the Celtics sat all of their starters and the game still went in to double OT, and the other was when the Celtics were on the 2nd half of a back to back after going in to overtime the night before. The Celtics have the bucks number by design.
