Tommy Paul was moving so well in this match. Great playing from both men.
Really? Alcaraz was playing terribly at certain points in the match. Forehand was off, he was not moving very well (aside from the one tweener), and his drop shot was off.
Edit: not taking away from Paul. He played well. But anyone with a single brain cell could see there was something off with Alcaraz in the match.
ESPN commentators (in spanish at least) always do the same when a player plays against the number 1 or something like that...
if the other player makes a good or amazing play they say something like "it came out by chance" or "ALCARAZ was not well positioned " or "aLCARAZ is not good with his drive or with his backhand TODAY ", in other words, it is always the fault of the number 1 ....
I did it with javier FRANA who was the biggest sucker of FEDERER ... they did it with NADAL ... with djokovic no because none of ESPN wants to novak ...
but the point is that if an "unknown" player makes a great play it only happened "by mistake" or because "the number 1 was in a bad position".
In the last ALCARAZ-PAUL game I heard Clerc do that ... a little bit ... please Batata don't go over to that side ....
@@PinoSilvestreOriginalvery Well Said , i totally agree with you 👍
@@PinoSilvestreOriginalare you kidding? For the past few years ESPN having been riding Novak hard.

Tommy Paul with the depth and the moves and the magic.
Tommy Paul has to be putting in meaningful off-court work-outs. Great quickness around the court. No choke, competing to the end. Quietly distinguishing himself.
Tommy Paul is the most cool character on tour. His calm composure is really similar to Rybakina. Congrats on the win. 🤩
What? So according to you Paul is the coolest? 😂 are you blind or what? Before him, basically all top10 😂 and also someone now below him such as berrettini, Musetti just to give two examples

Paul, has improved dramatically over the past year. Carlos was definitely a little off but Tommy deserved the win.
Paul deserved to win but let's not exaggerate Paul has done nothing before this since his fortunate draw to the semi at the AO in January. 1 top 30 player to beat to get to a semi... This is only Paul's second top ten of the whole year and the other win was the flaky Fritz back in February
I also just watched tommy paul highlights of him beating nadal last year. Dude is pretty damn good. Seems like the spaniards dont seem to bother him much
I think it's his physicality. He can grind with the best of them.
Nadal was completely over, it was his last match of the year and wasn t able to perform anymore. Paul il far from the level that had Berdych, Ferrer or Soderling in the past.
Well deserved win for Tommy Paul and he’ll have a career high ranking of at least No. 12 come Monday. He never lost his composure. He could be the highest ranked player in the semifinals depending on how Sinner does against Monfils.
Tommy's strikes are clean...... Especially his forehand, what a beauty!
got to see tommy paul practicing at the country club I work at before Wimbledon. mans just hits banger after banger
the stars have aligned for Sinner to win his first Masters
Again as the weakest draw ever, just like his Wimbledon semi-final run.

Whoever was running the highlights was not doing a good job. You had to look at the score to realize it was Paul winning not alcaraz.
They are biased towards alcaraz that’s why
it's on purpose
Oh! CA smashed his racquet after losing 1st set. Not a word from Media or anyone. If it was Novak; it would have made World Headlines!
He didn’t smashed the racket he was about too, but he didn’t
He hardly threw it at his seat, the racket didn’t even get damaged lol. novak not only breaks his racket but also net post at wimbledon

@@godwindcunha6213 What makes you say that? I wouldn’t call that a racket smash even if kyrgios did it. Just face the fact that he threw the racket with little force to even damage it.
Tommy Paul was impressive! Good luck for Cincinnati, Carlos!
1:29. Well you can't say Alcaraz has never tossed a racket in his life. Nothing wrong with that btw, but he did do it.
He tossed his racket in a match awhile back as well.

Please keep this view coming! Amazing perspective.
Wow. Alcaraz broke his own rule of not throwing his racquet.
I don't remember him making such rules.
I recall the media painting him out to be the baby Jesus but clearly he's feeling the pressure and I don't think he's enjoying himself. I don't trust anyone that smiles all the time.
They need to give this man time to rest He's not a tennis machine
@@SScott-nr9vlalcaraz is overhyped in my humble opinion. When medvedev beat Novak in arguably his best tournament ever ( us open) no one says anything because it’s medvedev, but now that alcaraz has beaten Djokovic in Wimbledon, people start saying he’s the goat. They are putting way too much pressure on Carlos and that results in losses like this
@@Bobby.546Medvedev was in his mid-20s when he won his first GS beating a worn down Novak who competed in 3 GS and Olympics already that year. Plus his limitations outside of hard courts is well known.
Alcaraz on the other hand, was a teenager till April this year. Already showed he can play on all kinds of surfaces and dethroned Novak on grass, previously thought be his weakest surface. People hype Alcaraz not because he beat Novak, but because of the skill and athleticism he possesses. He was hailed as the future of tennis from the get go. Beating Novak just cemented it
@@SScott-nr9vlcarlos said a few times that he will never throw the racket, because it's not the racket's fault, or something like that. You can google about it.

People are expecting Alcaraz to win it all from now on, forgetting that he's still barely 20 years old and will probably only peak at 22-23 years of age. The kid has an incredible 92.3% (48-4) win/loss in 2023, he currently has the highest win percentage before the age of 21 in a calendar year, of any player in the Open Era.
48-5 now,and at the end of the year, his winning percantage will become way lower, because most of the tournaments left in the year are fast hard court and indoor where Alcaraz is not as good as other courts
@@rasikhalabbeeWe haven’t even really seen Alcaraz play on indoor hard. He took a long break after the US Open win last year, and he got injured at Paris. It seems really presumptuous to say he’s bad on that surface, especially after what he just did on grass earlier this year.
Tommy also did a good job of neutralizing the drop shot.
Gave up after the second set because I thought Alcaraz would run away with the third set. When I saw Paul won, I had to watch the third set on TC+. In spite all of Alcaraz's fist pumping, Tommy just never gave up. Surprised Alcaraz didn't hurt himself the way he was falling all over the court. Wouldn't be surprised to see Paul win this now.
Obviously Tommy would win. Gave up?

Tommy Paul is one the few players who usually seems to be having a good time on court. Most players play like their lives is at stake and they don't look like they're having any fun at all. It's a real joy to see Tommy play. Carlos is one of those players too, but only when things are going his way. And one more thing, if Carlos continues throwing himself at those imposible balls on hard court like he did today, he's gonna hurt himself very badly one these days.
agree with you. TP showed beautiful forehand today.
Throwing yourself on the floor will give you bumps and bruises. It won’t actually injure anything. He’s fine man. Sure, maybe he should do it less on hard courts and more on clay and grass, but either way I’d be surprised if it actually caused significant damage.

Very strange how nobody is reporting the throwing of racquet by Alcaraz yet it was world wide news when the GOAT did it 😂❤
Djokovic is the boat not the goat best of all time is different than greatest of all time imo. Federer is the goat Djokovic is the boat. Djokovic achieved more statistically but Federer earned the heart of the fans. He brought so many people into tennis it’s insane
@@Bobby.546 oh i see. No no you are wrong. Novak is the Most( messiah of all time), Rafa is the goat, Roger is the koat( king of all time), Murray is the boat, monfils is the soat( showman of all time) Sinner is a coat ( cutest of all time)
@@ragas2845 wtf
@@Bobby.546 You are very wrong. Every generation had its own great player or players who brought new fans to the game. In the sixties it was Laver who put tennis on TV, although not live broadcasted; Connors, Borg and Mc Enroe brought the sport more to the masses, but it was Becker and Lendl in the 80s who put tennis on Live TV ...
In the 90s Nike started dominating the sport with Agassi and Sampras and it was Federer who exploded it to social media on facebook.
After that players had benefited from that scenario ... its not that Federer did it, it was the advertising tools that the system implemented to publicize the sport...
Federer a great player and carried through very good on that, but ITS NOT THAT HE SINGLE HANDEDLY DID IT.
So that greatest of all time because of that is wrong. In the social media world either your loved or destroyed, you have no other option ... Federer was a spoiled kid before that, like McEnroe throwing raquets, thats was his DNA, thats the player that he was supposed to be ...
So it was all an acting by Federer as his talent brought him the endorsement deals and the appereance of social media, just in that time ....
And its not that "Djokovic achieved more statistically", Federer also has achieved a lot statistically and that doesnt count?
What if i say Stefan Edberg is the greatest, because his elegance and sportmanship, and not Federer, who just happened to win more than Edberg statistically then?
You are very wrong. The greatest champion is Djokovic.
Fed and Nadal aren't even GOATs in their own era.

First really big upset of the year for Alcaraz. Just like Medvedev, it happens. Both of these guys played so many matches this year already it was inevitable a match like this would come at some point
Maroszan beating him on clay was a bigger upset IMHO
@@hidalgo8323 true
@@hidalgo8323way bigger
@@hidalgo8323true that blows the op's theory out of the water. How could anyone knowledgable about tennis forget that one. Marozsan was a nobody outside the top 100 and has done nothing since. Paul has multiple wins now over Alcaraz like Felix AA and Sinner. If Alcaraz's FH is not firing well he has no compelling plan B.
Without taking away any credit to Paul for his victory, Carlos' game was being so inconsistent in serving and hitting that it is a miracle that Hubbi did not beat him. The big difference between the Pole and Paul is mental toughness.
Tommy played fundamentally and that got him the win.
Thanks for your utmost love and support ❤
What greater confidence boost than beating tight #1 player
Wow these highlights are 🔥. Carlos lost but no wonder he is world number one , what shots
Highlights being the operative word
Paul is so chill
Great shots from Alcaraz and great movement from Tommy.
1:28 - greatest of them all
1:13 Looking like Fed’s footwork
Alcaraz is learning the hard way...that even though he is talented and agile and exceptionally powerful, there is no formula for winning against every opponent and the great start to his career will produce opponents like Tommy Paul (and others i.e Ruud, Rune, Felix, Sinner, Berretini) who have started to counter punch his strategy and play tactics....and will beat him at it.... not forgetting that Nadal and Novak are also still around and will be winning slams against this mix of challengers...not an easy path ahead at all for Carlos.
Tommy Paul has something special about his game, including the ability to take down top 10 opponents....all in all we have an amazing few years of tennis ahead...a spectators feast in store...the GOAT is Novak at the moment and it will be great to see whether Carlos will live up to all the expectations and hype...to beat Novaks records (23 slams, every Masters 1000 x3), weeks at No, etc, 4 slams back to back etc etc) will take much more than just being agile, talented and motivated....it will tale UNCANNY CONSISTENCY to do this over 20 years + ..against the new new gen, some of whom have beaten Alcaraz..
Good coment! Objectiv! And Novak will get some extra masters plus 1 or maybe 2..3..4 GS?
@@drmaccify I would say...there are at least 5 slams left in Novak and definitely at least 10 Masters 1000s (selected carefully)....in the last 2 years he has hasnt found his depth and power back as he did in 2011, 2015/2016, so his best is yet to come...and he is stll improving every year (needs to tighten up on overheads and drop shots) ...when Novak is at his peak no one was able to stop him...Carlos was not around then, tho...but we shall see...exciting tennis ahead !
Djokovic wiped the floor with Paul at the Australian Open this year
@@huzcer true..Novak will be back to his best soon...the kids will be schooled for sure..

Ya. He brought Carlos down to earth. It's would be good for the sport for upsets of top players to happen every now and then
@tonyzhang4659 thanks for supporting ❤
Is it just me or has this been the fastest court all of you have seen all year? Like by a substantial margin. Paul's level last night was all world. Carlos was also spraying way too many forehands. It happens with such an explosive shot, and anytime he came over the ball, Paul was catching it on the rise and crushing it. Insane level by both last night though. Good job for Tommy. I've been waiting a while for him to shine and it looks like he's turning the corner now. We might have 3 top 10 players soon, which is exciting.
If this would be Nole losing then the question would be: is this the end of his career? So let's not do the age discrimination thing and ask the same question: is Alcaraz done? Can he retire?
"age discrimination" is completely justified, so I don't see your point... As a Novak fan, don't put stupid comments out just to comment. The real point here is that no one is going to report Alcaraz anger tantrum, but if Novak would have done it it would have been over all news. Now that is where real bias is seen
@@stefcon2000Finally, a Djokovic fan who doesn’t have a huge victim mentality for no reason. Obviously the media is gonna be more concerned about a 36 year old’s retirement than a 20 year old. I can’t believe we even have to explain this, but players tend to retire more frequently in their late 30s rather than their early 20s. It’s because of the concept of aging, which wears down the human body!
Go Tommy! 🇺🇸
That´s one of the worst things of being a number one. Everybody wants to take a piece of you, and most of the time they play their best tennis versus you. It´s like they are playing with two more gears when they play Carlos.
