Although I like to appreciate others opinions, I cannot in one piece of my life begin to see what you see. I first watched Speed Racer when I was 4, the year it came out, I hated racing until I watched Cars and then Speed Racer, Cars gave me an inhuman look into racing with living cars, but Speed Racer made me see racing in a whole new way. Seeing the Mach 5 and Mach 6 do insane moves and all of the crazy races made me fall in love with this movie, and the belief that all movies about this sort of thing have to be realistic is absurd, when the shot of Rex in the beginning happens, it is supposed to look animated and weird, that is the point of this movie, to be realistic but having some elements of overly cg cars and cities, not to be incredibly accurate and perfect, this movie is perfect in its own way. I thought this movie would be one that I would grow out of, I am 16 and I watch this almost every weekend. I love this movie with the very depths of my heart, this movie is one of the greatest visual movies, you can continue to go on and on about how it looks fake and "this isn't it chief" and all that nonsense, but look to the parts of this movie that mean everything to Speed, the races are incredible, Thunderhead with the constantly moving camera and ghost of Rex add a whole new background to racing with Speed. Fuji adds the part in the movie where the hero loses, and we get backstory into the main characters childhood hero, Casa Cristo gives Speed another chance where he thinks that he can do something that can make a change in the world, but falls short, just like his brother did, and when Speed enters the Prix, its the time for him to prove to the world what he can do, and wins the race. Don't say this movie is unrealistic, there are movies that are unrealistic but people find them amazing, this is a different take on movies, and if you do not like it that is fine, I just have to explain an opinion from a side that is different to yours.
I think we’re like the exact same person; I was 4 when I went to go watch this movie. I didn’t even grow up watching speed racer as a kid and I love the movie. The story, writing and even fight scenes are top notch. The scene with Speed and Royalton in his office, isn’t just exposition for the sake of it. Speed is telling Royalton his philosophy about what racing means to him and his family, and Royalton hears this, and basically ‘goes aww that’s cute, now let me tell you what actually happens’.
