- The Fold Scale trick! When I figured this out, it totally transformed how I compose in Ableton. Skip the trial and error of searching for the right notes: use the Fold key to hide the notes you don’t need. I’ll show you how, and give an example of my compositional process.
UPDATE: Best practice is to move the scale before the loop area, not after. To get time before the loop area, set the Start point to -1 and then back to 1. - Hudba
Wow. How quick that groovy *** melody came together. This is like learning that secret code to the game that was killing u back the day! Big thanks.

Ableton has both Fold and Scale buttons which cover this workaround to the top left of the piano roll now. Nice video regardless, I learned a ton here.
Yes, this video has been obsolete since Live 10. Glad you enjoyed it regardless!

Hey Eliot,
I hope you'll answer this.
I dont have the fold button on my daw. Can you tell me if I can just write in reference to the notes that we built? Would that ensure I'm writing in key.
what DAW are you using? In Logic it's called "Collapse Mode"
@@ElliotCole Cakewalk. But I found the answer. Thx
