      I am a fan of vinegar and baking soda as cleaners. I am jus a bit concerned that you had gloves you used on your countertop next to towel you used to clean the mirror. And toilet paper to stick under rim is excellent idea but using a roll already in use while gloves are touching it and seemingly placed back is a little unnerving ☺. Maybe you can have separate rolls for tp section.

    A note of caution about using anything acidic inside the tank. We used bleach tablets for the tank in our new home we had built and the tank started leaking into the bowl after a while (we lived there less than five years so it was maybe three years). Turns out, anything acidic like vinegar, bleach tablets, etc. pits or eats into the rubber ring that sits in between the bottom of the tank and the stopper and prevents a tight seal. We had to install a new seal. Anything acidic will eat or pit anything made of rubber. Otherwise, I like your cleaning tips!

    WARNING! If you live in a rural area and have a septic tank, be sure to neutralize the water in the tank/bowl BEFORE flushing. The reason vinegar works is due to its acidity, and that acid will eat away the walls of your septic tank over time and can actually cause the septic tank to leak or even collapse. You can neutralize the acidity by adding baking soda until the added baking soda stops foaming -- then it is safe to flush.

    You might also consider, as a preventative maintenance step (once or twice a year) pouring about a cup of vinegar into the the center pipe of the flush valve (where the little hose from the filler valve sits), to help clean/clear the water pathway to the underside of the rim. Limescale/rust buildup in this area can cause problems with the flushing of the toilet, and keeping the pathway clean will help reduce streaks.

    The vinegar is great, but I find if you mix it with Dawn soap it sticks to the sides of the bowl better. You can do a mix of 50/50 or more vinegar with less Dawn. The thicker the mixture the more it sticks to the sides. I have also just poured a gallon of cleaning vinegar in the top tank when I don't have time to spritz. Also if you use a plunger to get all of the water out of the bowl, you can then clean your toilet brush right in the toilet with the Dawn / vinegar mix instead of your sink (ugh!). When you add fresh water to your toilet you can then rinse that toilet brush out in the fresh water.

    I do this but refill the tank (reservoir) with hot water & lots of vinegar (it is cheap) - this saves on scrubbing the inside for too long. Also, you can clean your toilet brush by putting it in the tank OR pushing it down into the toilet with a hot solution in there instead of in the sink. Great to see you are so excited by being this clean!

    I found pouring vinegar down the overflow pipe gives a nice clean feel to a toilet. The water when flushing or if goes down the overflow pipe, goes around the rim, then down a chamber in the front to the eductor jet at the bottom (the hole shooting toward the drain). The vinegar gets at the rim jet holes from the inside and will loosen any mineral build up as well.

I might add, being a retired plumber, when debris is loose in the bottom of the tank, I use a shop vac to suck up material that is loose so it doesn't flush into the toilet bowl, which has small directional holes in the hollow rim that washes the sides of the bowl when flushed and they can get plugged with minerals and loose particles from the tank if not removed............The inside of your tank looks great :-)--

    I’m 70 and have been using vinegar to clean everything for years. (Learned from my grandmother.) I just subscribed to your channel because I had never mastered using vinegar to deep clean the toilet. This is awesome. I learned I need to deep clean the tank with vinegar; I learned I wasn’t using enough vinegar to deep clean the toilet; and I learned I wasn’t letting it sit long enough. Thank you.
    My favorite vinegar tip is using distilled white vinegar in the laundry rinse cycle instead of softener. It gets out a lot of built up soap and returns cloth to a state closer to its original state. Since we use mostly 100% cotton, this works well for us. This is the tip most interesting to friends and family who don’t like heavy perfume smells from laundry chemicals or who like replacing their expensive rinse aids with something as cheap as vinegar. Thanks again.

      The wash machine technician advised to use vinegar in the softener dispenser also after phosphorus was banned/discontinued in laundry powder resulting in fine dust remaining on in especially "blacks" wash. About same amount.

    It don't take an hour to get results .I just put vinegar in toilet bowl take my brush and push the mixture up in the rim. maybe 15 minutes altogether. Do this often clean bowl . Don't need that toilet paper. It's the only thing I have found to get rid of those stains where the water streaks toward the back of the bowl. Comes out clean and fresh fast.

  • @lastname6584
    @lastname6584 Před 3 lety +2

    I just bought a new toilet for this reason. The calcium and mineral deposit had clogged the rim to such a high degree, not enough water could get from the tank to the bowl for a full flush. It is possible I could have tried this before replacing, but I will definitely use vinegar to make my new toilet last longer.

    I didn’t know there was such a thing as “cleaning vinegar” and will have to find some. As for the brush, just set it down in the toilet bowl to soak in the water left there after draining the toilet. And, instead of draining the tank, pour some of vinegar into the tank to let it soak. You could even set the brush in the tank to soak along with the tank.

      @@cyndismith4939 I thought I was going to have to throw out my Keurig because the water is horrible in FL. I hadnt used it in months and some water had dried out in it and it was completely clogged. I finally put hot, straight white vinegar in it and overnight, it broke loose. I find, however, at least in a Keurig, it takes MANY water cycles to flush out all the vinegar. But it saved my machine. I was reluctant to put it in the tank as it was so thick. ( Not to mention that it would take a humongous amount ).
    Since using cleaning vinegar, my tank is working a lot better. ( And cleaner )
    Not only that, the holes under the rim are discharging water properly now.
    Two for one results. 👍
