I’ve noticed how crappy wallets are at stores now. The everyday big batch, off-shore made ones. I appreciate quality and the workmanship. Every wallet is not created equal

That's a lot of work. I can see why it takes a lot of time and skill! I think a lot of people who don't do leatherwork look at that and say it's a small object, but it requires a lot of handwork even with cutting dies, sewing machines and skivers. They also sometimes don't realize why they cost as much as they do, but look at the equipment you have to buy. The machines and leather aren't cheap. Love your videos!

I like how you back the binding agent away from the edge of the leather. It can show up on the final project as an unsightly line. You're also burnishing the interior edge segments. Attention to detail is everything. You're a top notch craftsman Parker.

FYI, when using a Bic lighter to melt your thread, wipe the melted end with the metal guard of the lighter to avoid any finger oil transfer. It works great and any excess thread wipes right off your lighter once cooled.

I made my first wallet the other day with pigskin and 2-3 4-5 ounce leather, took me five hours to stitch together because pigskin is a gigantic pain to mark for my hand stitching tools. Finished it, brought it to class all built and good looking, then everyone started to compare it to the mass produced cheap wallets from over seas.

Hi, I really like your videos and I want to try to make a few wallets like this for me and as presents for my best friends. The design that I have in mind for myself is a little bit different and I would try to make the rest custom made.
It would really help me out if you told me how thick the leather you’re using is (preferably in milimeters, because I have no clue what ounces are) and recomend some beginner tools and where to buy them.
I was having a look on amazon (the german one because I’m from Slovenia) the other day and they sell some ”scrap” leather by kilograms that are in ruff squares of 11.7 x 16.5 inches (those are leftovers from a shoe company) the price is around 23€ per kilogram or about 10€ per pound of leather and the thickness is 0.9 to 1.2 mm.
I don’t want to go all professional and I don’t mind doing everything by hand, but the price differences for these tools are weird to me, you can buy a set of prongs for 3€ or 13€ or 30€. Obviously I don’t want to buy some cheap shit as I want the tools to do the job well, but , so I don’t want to spend a fortune for them. There are only 2 Tandy shops in Europe one in UK and one in Spain which means they are too far and too expensive anyway. I would really need some advice on these matters
