Outstanding. Convinces me that I should listen to more late Haydn quartets. :)

Sorry, the da capo (repeat) markings by the composer are instructions, not suggestions; this performance has been reduced to little more than quarter of an hour and diminished its immense stature.
The practice of ignoring repeats in the music of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven is indefensible.

This video is a live recording from the Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition Final Round. Due to its limited time for all competitors to be able to perform, the competition asked all groups to skip repeats.

Thanks for your comment; I thought that might be the case.
It still remains an indefensible practice, it is unmusical and unartistic; Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven et al wrote da capo marks because that is what they wanted and they should be respected.
It was kind of you to reply and explain, I appreciate that...but hope you always play the repeats in concert performances.

This is one of the most beautifully presented Haydn! It is with full of musicality and personality from all of the members of the Esmé Quartet. You are very rude to write such a comment like this when these young ladies were forced not to make repeats because of the competition!
