If anyone is having doubts, I learned math from zero after graduating high school. Like I didn't even know fractions. I now have a bachelor's of engineering in chemical engineering. And you too can learn math, just like I did. I highly suggest CZcams to supplement your learning and you will thank yourself for it. As math is used everyday.
What channels did you watch? Can you give me a couple of sources and advices, please? I'm 18

I'm 81 years old, and always had the dream of being a mathematician; and although I had a paper published once in the Journal of Symbolic Logic in 1988, The False Assumption Underlying Berry's Paradox, and have created the foundation of a new set theory, I don't really know math, or set theory for that matter, at all. This video points the way, it seems, or at least gives a place to start. So I'm going to get the book and see how far I can go with and beyond it in the limited time I have left. What an inspiration is this video!
All is well, ❤️🩹 you good old man
update?
I recently have gotten into mathematics using a book called 'Understanding Numbers in Elementary School Mathematics' by Hung Hsi-Wu. It's actually written for school teachers so they can understand what they're teaching their students at a deeper level. The deeper level of explanation helps a lot for self learners and it's also already written in a pyramid order building the base so you can move upwards.
great
Hi upwards like what? Like start from nothing to calc 2? I know NOTHING math related and have no idea what to do
@@SolopocoYou should start with Arithmetic, I recommend Professor Dave's CZcams channel, he has a playlist, which contains multiple videos, starting from the very basics of math, to more advanced topics. The playlist is called "Math, all of it" or something like that.
Khan Academy, it's free!
Tysm this is really useful
I'm a Software Developer and knew little math. Going back and learning the history of Mathematics and parts of math itself that I had forgot or didn't understand has been wonderful.
@@JoeyWolf As a software developer myself and someone that was really bad at math I can say you can work as a dev without being good at math. I'm just trying to learn it again because now I will enjoy learning at my own pace, but it is not required for the job.
same her its sooo cool! i was at panera bread yesterday going over fourier transforms and all the cool waves you can make. math is so beautiful but growing up i just never saw it or did the work. now i love it and it actually is making me a better SE especially with the low level stuff
I am going back to finish my High School after dropping out 25 years ago. Thank you so much for making this video. I was looking for something to help me brush up on my math and this series of books looks like it would great for doing just that. Thanks again! 🙂
I am doing similar, if you are interested in math and not just finishing high school, more theoretical but still beginner introduction is Basic Mathematics by Serg Lang.
Oh awesome! I wish you well and yes you can do it.
Good luck Darnell. I hope you've been consistent and going stronger
Good luck, knowledge is always important.
You got this man!
I'm actually self studying using your Udemy class College Algebra, I bought several books you recommended (in your first video last year and in the recent one as well), but instead of paper I use my iPad Air and the app GoodNotes 5. To prevent distractions, I turn on Do Not Disturb. So I can follow Udemy on my Mac, writing on my iPad and using my iPhone as a timer.
To me the benefit of using a notes app on my iPad, is that it takes no space and I can review my notes (usually on Sunday). Like you, I learn by reading and writing, so it helps to achieve both.
I'm 42 and self studying math to help me prepare to return to college next September. Your channel is a blessing. Thank you for your amazing content.

Ah yes! More algebra books! These basic and middle-level algebra books are so important to properly progress without too much frustration. Indeed algebra books, in general, deserve as much attention as calculus books get. Thanks!

Good selection. As a HS math teacher I've recommended it to people along with How to Double Your Child's Grade in School which shows parents how to move from tutor to manager of their child's learning.
I found a similar style book called, "Precalculus Mathematics in a Nutshell - Geometry, Algebra, Trigonometry" by George F. Simmons. 120 pages with tons of illustrations and exercises with answers. It employs a no nonsense approach that gets directly to the point. It is concise enough to open from the beginning and read as a refresher course, or hit upon specific topics in minutes.
tysm for the recommendation, I wanna prepare book for my child I hope she can enjoy math later
Would you say it’s better than the book in the video?
@@TAKE_BACK_BRITAIN Impossible to say since I have not read the other book. Every user experience is different since we all come from different backgrounds and levels of experience.
Thank you for sharing this. I missed a lot of school when I was kid due to child abuse and never learnt the foundations of maths.
I tried studying computer sience in my early 20's but failed due to the extreme maths evolved. Now 20 years I have a burning desire to learn mathematics
Go for it old man
I must admit sir , your vedios definitely pushed me to do math every single day without getting frustrated or taking it as a punishment. Previously, I used to think why did even take up math and now my thoughts have completely changed the way I solve a problem, the thought process everything changed. A big thanks to you for making my life meaningful , I don't know if I'll ever live without math it's my favorite subject in the whole wide world.
Wow, I want the same confidence with math
I just want to say I am somebody who was diagnosed with learning disabilities after age 30 which explained a lot of my struggles and eventual dropping out of school.
This book series has been absolutely amazing.
I finally understand things that nobody bothered to help me with back in the day.
You know, I really appreciate all of your videos because they all truly help me. I am a 16 year old with a G.E.D. and I collect so many books that all serve a purpose, and I have only used this book once. Seeing this video really showed me that I should never underestimate the power of any book, most importantly this one. I have this book just collecting dust in my personal library thinking that it was useless, but you showed me that what I thought is completely untrue. I am going to share the Everything you need to ace algebra book with my brother who is currently struggling with algebra. Thank you very much!
I really appreciate an experienced expert like you suggesting books for people with zero knowledge. Love this. Thank you very much my friend.
I’m a self taught data dork trying to fill in knowledge gaps and you are truly awesome. I fall into the pitfall of having no syllabus with self study, another great book like this one I remember is the international baccalaureate mathematics book (the big Orange one by Haese mathematics)
Khan Academy is another great resource for those of us who prefer to use a computer over a book. It really helped me when I went back to College to relearn the basics so I could start doing beginner calculus.
There's also " Everything you need to know to ace math in one big fat notebook" from the same series. It's geared more for middle school so probably a little less complete than the one you showed but what's great about it is that it also has a companion workbook called "The Big Fat Middle School Math Notebook" that has hundreds of exercises as well as explanations for each one. You should take a look at those.
I’m a middle school math teacher; 6th, 7th, and 8th grade - and this book is one that I have been recommending to students and parents for the last two years. Any student who takes the time to read it and do the exercises is virtually guaranteed to do well in middle school math.
Pls is the book free on any website?
@@chiderathankgod6023 Try Library Genesis
@@chiderathankgod6023 I got the entire series for middle school at Costco. They were under $10 each and worth every penny. Also, teachers can rip out the pages and copy them for students.

Thank you so much!! I am 55, and have never been able to understand anything in math! I have been completely illiterate in this sense. I love languages and music, but have struggled with math all my life. I have tried to learn math basics on my own several times as an adult, but now I have a purpose beyond myself, my first grandkid. I will give myself this opportunity.
I've been waiting for something like this. I know so little about math, trying to find books like this is hard when I didn't even know the term pre-algebra (till now).
Your enthusiasm for this book is contagious. I love it! Also, I too love the smell of a good book. ❤
This book absolutely changed my view on math. I was never a fan of math and always hated it until I decided to take an officer qualifying test in the Air Force and failed. I looked around for study book reviews on CZcams and came across this channel. I gave this book a try and let me tell you, it was a great investment for the price. I’ve learned and understood more from this book than any class I have ever taken in high school and college. I never thought these words would come out of my mouth but I actually enjoy doing math daily from this book. I also have the geometry and math book in this series. I am more confident in my math knowledge than ever before. Thanks for reviewing this book sir 💯. I will be retaking the test in a few months.
Need an update brother.
I'm in 5th grade and wanting to get a higher understanding of mathematics at around a 7th or 8th grade level. This book has helped a lot and your videos are also very helpful. Thank you so much and I just subscribed!

I've been watching your videos for years and I have been collecting a small textbook collection throughout the years even though it's hard to understand the topic.
Math wasn't my stringest subject but it's the subject I put the most effort in when I was young, I had a teacher who truly love math and treated everyone with cheerfulness and respect which made math less intimidating.
I always watch your videos with joy, it literally motivated to pursue my joy for learning even though it is hard to take risks when you don't excel at something.

I really love the way that book is formatted and written, especially with how the topics are organized. It is very readable for anyone wanting to grasp the basic fundamentals of algebra, which tend to be severely overlooked by people in Calculus and higher lv math. I would definitely approve of this book as one extremely reliable source to refer to for beginners, plus, learning about basic algebra will make learning Calculus a lot easier.
Thank you, my man! I am ordering these tonight! I am told I was doing multiplication at age 3, but I was also ADHD and was hence shoved into special ed as a kid. I asked for this video a lot! Thanks! :)
I remember when I jumped into college algebra, as I was 50 years old and decided to get my bachelor's. Well, I did not take any math for 20+ years. What I did is start from the BEGINNING. I bought this book that went from basic math all the way to algebra, statistics and some trig. It was just one book and I studied it DAILY. I definitely needed that basic math because my instructor was anti-calculator and the only time she allowed it was when it was mandatory to use. Anything you could figure out without a calculator you had to do by hand. So half the exams were without a calculator and the rest was with one. It was online college algebra and I ended up studying about 6 to 8 hours a day but I made an "A" in the class. Most of the students dropped out because she was tough. I have my Master's degree now. But learning from scratch is essential. I mean training your brain to do problems by hand without a calculator--addition, subtraction, multiplication, division problems, proved essential. If you do not do these problems by hand, I guarantee you will forget how. It is not everyday you do long division, or dealing with fractions. So you really DO have to relearn everything---but the process is rapid as long as you study DAILY. CZcams was very helpful. There are times you WILL get stuck but there is always some instructor who will explain how to do it in simple terms. I remember some of those algebra problems are super LONG. I mean you are on your second or third page still working on a single problem! If you mess up (usually SIMPLE math error) you screwed up the whole problem. She had weekly TIMED mandatory quizzes and the tests went over several chapters, mandatory to take them at the college as they were proctored. If you miss two quizzes she would give an "F" to the student and she never gave points or dropped your worst exam grade. Online is a LOT harder than in person. But as I was working I chose to go that route. She was tough but I sure loved that professor. She was awesome! PS: I normally suck in math. IF I CAN MAKE A's in math, so can you.
What is your major if i may ask sir? I'm 21 years old and have been graduate four years ago and have been employed ever since, I wanted to go to college this year but I was never doing well in mathematics during my high school year.
I've been through college level Stats and Business Stats, but honestly that was all 15+ years ago... so this might be a good way to start back up to make sure I know the fundamentals really well!
This is my favourite channel. I especially like it when you explain everything so nicely. I wish you a lot of success with the channel and happy life.

Thank you so much for this bestest video!
Thanks! I will pick this up 👍
Great video! Thanks!
I bought this book based on your recommendation to go over the algebra that I rejected during my 11-16 years at secondary school. I was too busy dealing with a broken home to care about my grades. I was predicted to achieve top marks in all of my subjects. Instead, I frustrated my peers and teachers due to my apathetic approach to learning. I never did homework and feel asleep in all my exams, while getting kicked out of school on a regular basis. Despite all this I still managed to pass all my exams. Now I'm ready to revisit and learn what I should've been learning back then at the age of 28. I take particular care now to explain my working out, as it helps others to understand. Luckily I'm dating a chemistry teacher who is 15 years my senior. She's a perfect mentor and enjoys helping me through the book on questions I find particularly confusing.
all the best!!
Great story, I am considerably younger than you but this is quite inspiring.
I love your content it's extremely influential.
I bought the book bc of this video. I hope it teaches me everything I need to know along with the forgotten algebra book

Due to having Cystic Fibrosis I basically skipped elementary and middle school. I pretty much started in the 10th grade. I went on to graduate from a good tech school (electronics). I did very well, but there were definitely gaps in my knowledge of mathematics. I recently bought this book based on your recommendation. I plan on learning everything I can. I'm particularly interested in geometry and calculus. I know I have a long way to go but, I'd like to thank you for helping inspire me to continue. You rock.

I wasn't ever good at math until i spent years practicing music, and then when i finally went to college, math was the only subject i perfectly understood, idk what happened to my brain but it was like someone flipped on a light switch
I agree that to learn Mathematics everyone needs to read And Write and make exercises ... there is no other way. Great little book for beginners no doubt.
I hope you can review the geometry book in the Big Fat Notebooks series sometime. Or some more high-school level geometry books in general.
The book in this review looks perfect for some friends of mine, also.
This is the book I’m starting with - excellent
I’ve just ordered the book. 🙏🏻 it helps me go from a grade 4 GCSE (UK) to over a 6. As an adult I find some maths curriculum is totally 😵💫🥴🤪
Funny story, when I was young I always felt bad about being weak in math. My schooling wasn't good and as a new immigrant I had to keep switching schools as my parents explored their job options. I actually didn't pursue computer science since I was weak in math. Long story short, after graduating with a useless degree, I started going to the local library. It took my 8 months of constant studying to go from grade 10 level math to knowing calculus. It was one of the best things I have done with my life. Now I am software developer. I still think about math every now and then for computer graphics haha
No doubt...it is really good book 📖📚.... being a maths lover...I must say it is really helpful for beginners n further learning... thanks CZcams for recommending me such a nice video 👏🌟
I have all their books in different subjects! My favorite collection so far.
Im excited. I've been so intimidated to even start.
I am a high school student ,
the thing is , last year we studied calculus and derivatives .
We didn't study them properly , they were rushed , and this year we studied integrals .
But the thing is , we don't really study anything properly , we just catch some words from the teacher , from private classes , etc .. (just memorize a ton of exercices and you are ready to go)
this week we studied differential equations , very poorly : "just remember the 3 exemples y'=ay has solutions f(x)= ke^a , etc.."
I don't want to learn things this way .
I want to take a step down and learn all the pure math from the start .
from pre-algebra , algebra , pre-calculus , calculus , trigonometry , discrete math , etc..
I want to major in computer science or system engineering , I want to master math .
What books should I read in the RIGHT ORDER ?
This book in the video is good , but what about other topics such as calculus and trig ?
I just bought the book the pencils and pencil sharpener, it should all arrive today. Time to learn math.
awesome!
Another book that I've heard many people talk about is the Art of Problem Solving. It's actually a series. It goes from pre-algebra all the way to Calculus and competition math.
Can you link the book?
A math book with answers! Phenomenal! Texts with answers only to odd-numbered problems don't encourage students to attempt even-numbered problems. If you don't know where you're going, how do you know when you get there?
This is the video for me. I never learned as a kid. This should be interesting to go through.
I was a horrible student all throughout middle and high school and now I'm in need of actually learning math. This video was very helpful
