National Quilting Month is almost here, and Jenny Doan is getting ready for our annual Charity Quilt Auction! She has gathered all her red scraps to sew an Antique Lace quilt that will be up for grabs this March. This beautiful quilt pattern has created quite a buzz so we decided to bring back Jenny's original Antique Lace tutorial for our first-ever Flash Back Friday!
In this video, Jenny demonstrates how to make a beautiful Antique Lace quilt using a bit of white yardage and 2.5-inch strips of precut fabric (jelly rolls). For this project, she chose "Fiorella" Pixie Strips by RJR. This quilt was inspired by a single antique block Jenny purchased online. Boy, was she surprised to discover a beautiful secondary block that appeared when she pieced together all her recreated blocks! This quilt is quick and easy with half square triangles cut from strip sets that are then made into pinwheels and other simple units.

Jenny, you drew me back to piecing quilt tops with a Facebook post of the Five and Dime quilt with the lady from Kansas Troubles. Don’t remember how far back that was but I’ve been a fan ever since. This Antique Lace will be my next project. I have made so many of your quilt tops that I have lost count.
As an aside, the frogging on this video is delightful and reminds us all that mistakes happen. Can’t remember one top that I didn’t have to correct something.
Thanks for all the joy you bring us.

Since then I have dove deeply into this life changing hobby and I have never had a chance to thank you, thank you. I am going to make this quilt with navy as the background and white as the lace, I am also going to add half a block to each end to make it wider and to finish off the secondary pattern, well that’s the plan lol. I live in the UK, which is why I didn’t know about quilt making, only EPP quilts, which is a lot of work.

I love this block! But I'm impatient and want a king size quilt like this. I have a big collection of the Wilmington 10 karat gems in red that I want to use but only have charms, layer cakes & fat quarters. Now I have to sit down and figure out sizes to cut in order to make each block bigger. I want this quilt and on each side want to use yoyos to make a border in triangles of red. Also have to figure out how to make as a QAYG as I only have a 5" throat on my machine and doing a king size free motion quilt is something I'm not willing to tackle. Sharpening my pencil now to figure it out. 😁🤪🤸‍♀️🤞
