+Eddy mmm Actually, a mall is generally defined as a series of stores in an enclosed building or series of buildings, whereas a shopping center is a series of stores that share a building, but not an internal access.
Basically, can you go between stores without going outside? Then it's a mall. If you have to go outside to get to different stores, it's a shopping center.
Some people use the words differently, but she's not wrong.

4:12 60 years ago there was a super market and a movie theater...
It's a Strip mall, it was designed as the buffer zone between residential and and an obstruction (northern Blvd). Strip malls were built by property owner to earn revenue because it was undesirable residential development land. Property owners would sit on strip malls until they were bought out by other developers. But in this case it evolved into a destination retail location. This is a basic in Urban Design history.

The males in the men’s department were whispering to each other that I must be wearing a uniform. They might have been security or store attendants. In other words They were saying he (me) doesn’t belong here. That is the type of micro aggression and racism I experienced at this mall.

Umm... no they are not. Prejudice based on race. Is that not the definition of racism? Perhaps take two seconds to google and you may learn something new. I will even do it for you to save you the hassle.
      ---------------------
      rac·ism
      ˈrāˌsizəm/
      noun
prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.
      ---------------------
Literally the first word that comes up is **prejudice**. You can deny it all you want, but that doesn't change the fact that incidents like these still happen every day in 2018. I am sure it has never happened to you. It has never happened to me either, but sometimes you need to stand in someone else's shoes and show some empathy for their struggle. What if you were the Black man who got followed around in luxury stores, given weird looks, while the employees whisper to each other about you? You can be successful and have all the money in the world, but the color of your skin doesn't change.

I’m in no way wealthy but live nearby and have been coming to the Sephora + Apple store here for years. It’s much more chill then this video depicts. Yes, they’re many luxury brands, but there even used to be an H&M here until a few years ago

The Roosevelt Field Mall is also very nice but it isn't solely for rich people like the other two. There's tons of average middle-end stores that you would find at a mall anywhere in the USA too.
From Most Luxurious to Least: Americana> Walt Whitman> Roosevelt Field> Tanger> Smithhaven> Bay Shore Mall> Broadway Mall> Sunrise Mall> Green Acres

It’s a MALL and an inconvenient one at that, because you have to access all the stores from the outside and there is no protective cover whatsoever. So you park your car and then freeze in the winter, or boil in the summer, or get soaked when it’s raining sideways. Just a ridiculous concept unless one lives in a San Diego type climate. Also, there is nothing charming or interesting about a linear strip of retail stores, so shopping here feels like a chore.

Hi- Long Island had the first shopping centers. They were a new idea and a group of stores lined up in a single row with a parking lot in front. Even today, we go to the Herricks Shopping Center, or to Waldbaums shopping center in Roslyn. Americana Shopping center was the Pathmark shopping Center, these were all new in place of a store on the main road where you had to park usually with a parking meter and then get to the store. I remember Glen Oaks SC, Manhasset SC was different, the stores had their own parking lots in the back. We used to go to Best & Co. for haircuts and park in the back. So yes, Americana is a shopping center which is very different than a mall which is all spread out. Shopping centers are very focused.

A shopping center is a mall people! And while I love actual retail, I must say online shop and pick up in store option will do away with “personal shoppers”, unless of course you are disabled in someway. I will also point out that “legacy brands” are all struggling in the age of AI and tech manufacturing. e.g. Ferrari’s new plan for 2020 is a $200k SUV...
