This looks fantastic on the road. Probably the best looking 7 seater you can currently buy
I picked up this exact red MDX Type-S a few months ago and after 5K miles I couldn't be happier. It's more dynamic than other 3 ROWs for a great value and it's a super comfortable car to drive. Cross shopped the X5 / Q7 and each was 10K more given similar options.
How is the MDX's lane centering tech? Does it's lane keep assist work well on freeways for long distance driving? Thanks!
I just discovered that mine seems to have a governer on it. I can't get it past 130 mph. I guess it's time to chip it! LOL.
@@R56Cooper It does! Works super well - much better than a few others i've tried.
@@layne4376 Not many 67-72K SUVs with Air Ride! Tough to beat at that range honestly.
I love how it was lowering while you guys were revving it. Merry Christmas boys. ❄️
I bought a Tiger Eye Pearl Type S Advance in June for my new daily. Previous daily is a Tuned 2019 Mustang GT 10R80 (which is now the weekend ride) so this being fast wasn’t all that important to me. Just wanted a little bit more shove in the daily. Primary desire was a quiet, comfortable, 3 Row SUV with some luxury features that I wouldn’t be absolutely terrified of after the warranty (looking at you Germany) since I was buying and not leasing. And the blue interior on mine is absolutely killer! Stereo is awesome too.
That's really the best Christmas gift among all the auto review youtubers, thanks!
I bought Type S 3 months ago and love it. Cross shopped the X7 and Mercedes 3 row but neither were available and way overpriced. Even considered a Cayenne but similarly optioned $30k more.
Thanks for a great year guys! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
My sister in law has one of these and i drove it around for a bit and let me tell you, has me contemplating buying one. You have nice road presence, perfect 3 row mid size suv for the family. Super comfortable and drives amazing!
I have mine since March 2022 and loving it. I have the Ultra edition and upgraded the badges to the black chrome on the red paint job. I bought it because I find the maintenance cost lower then the German brands and I got the 7 year warranty for the air suspension if that should go. I just recently dove it to New York City and back to Toronto and it was great. Had my wife and cousin who is tall in second row and she said had no issues for comfort for 8 hours. I don't plan to sell it so resale is not important but being an Acura, i think it would hold better then a Genesis model. Being a old school Acura guy (two GS-R, a 2004 TSX) happy to be back to the brand and looking forward to many years with it. Added options i got was also a set of 20" winter rims/tires, factory roof rack, lighted kick plates, Type S winter mats, and PPF the front end for rock chips.
Another great year of StraightPipes videos! Love seeing how you guys have grown and become excellent over the years! Have a wonderful Christmas with your families! Merry Christmas!
I own this Acura MDXTypeS in Black with Red interior n red brakes and by far this is the best car I’ve owned. I constantly get compliments everyday. It’s a sharp looking car, great driving experience and could not be happier with this purchase. Love my Acura MDX TypeS!! ❤
Good to have the round 12 volt outlets even in the cargo area for 12 volt accessories such as a travel refrigerator. Better too many outlets than not enough. I have used the round 12 volt outlet in the cargo area of my 2010 MDX several times. I use the round 12 volt outlet in the second row for my air compressor since from there it will reach all four tires.
I agree with Jakub about 2 12V outlets in the front. 12V outlets supply a good deal more power than USBs, at least the USBs auto OEMs supply, so by having a 12V and using a 2-3-4 outlet adapter you can charge not only more devices than you can with just the (usually) 2 USB outlets they equip, but also charge things faster.
I use the "circle twelve volt" in the rear of our Macan to plug in the air compressor to inflate tires on the small trailer we use. Very useful to have one in the trunk.
Well balanced review of one of my favorite vehicles. Loved it. Merry Christmas guys 🌲🌲

That’s the best part of SH-AWD! It drives the outside wheels faster during turns so that it does a quicker turn-in 💪
I know you use “piano black” (wood trim) interchangeably with “glass black” (plastic). That gets confusing!
I got the 2024 and put 17,000 km already. My third MdX so far. I love it. Get all the features of the German brands, extra reliability and saved a few dollars. Can’t beat that. The suspension is amazing, and the engine delivers that little extra oomph when you want it.
A $60-65k Type S RDX would sell like hotcakes!
Where is everyone getting so much money to sell like hotcakes at 60k?

Got mine 2 months ago. Tiger Eye Pearl on Orchid Advance. Really enjoy driving this SUV. I'm only getting 13mpg around town and less than 17 on the highway. Still, the smooth driving experience as well as the extra luxury and performance, makes this a great all around family hauler. Love the air suspension, massaging seats and 25 speaker stereo. My advice is skip the base Type-S. For only 5 grand more in the states you get 15 extra features in the Advance trim.
17 mpg highway? I’m guessing you’re not driving at the speed limit lol. I couldn’t live with that mileage.
Picked up my liquid carbon red interior type s advance on sunday and nothing beats japanese reliability and luxury.
Quick suggestion: cover if any of the new cars you review have ambient lighting. For me, that’s a huge selling point. Ty ty

I've got a 07 mdx and have enjoyed it for sure but this makes me want this awesome new version.
This is the only reason to go into an Acura showroom right now. They actually put some effort into this one.
That looks really good. We love our 2011 MDX. Best all-round vehicle we've ever owned.
Had a 2011 also. Bought with like 300,000km on it as a tertiary vehicle/business car. Thing was solid and moved pretty well. Love the 2022+ MDX design and this Type-S looks great. Decent price compared to the competition I thought

Merry Christmas! To you guys as well 🎄⛄️
So I will agree that the population who would utilize this to it's full potential is small however. I'd also say that as personally a Honda and Acura enthusiast this is right up my alley. For reliability and the "degree" of luxury you get it's just utilitarian enough and not terribly lavish for kids to get spoiled 😂
Savagegees said it best. they’ve cherry picked the luxury you’ll actually use and need
I like having to circle 12 V plugs in the front and the one in the back is nice too. I have a 12 V cooler that I put in the trunk upfront and I have a dash cam and a radar detector and both take the old style 12 V Plug.

I love the MDX, and if I had a family this would definitely be my go to because of reliability, power, and features. And the looks are phenomenal. If Acura keeps this up, their name will definitively be mentioned a lot more!
Happy Holidays to you and yours!
Is that an intercooler up front?? That looks knarly-- I love it!
So excited we have a high performance model so it can keep up with the base / mid range model of all the German ones

Idk if I’d get the Type S as I drove a new MDX Tech and absolutely loved it. It was the base model but it would probably be the trim I would get.
Amazing Acura !!
Close to $100k Canadian after fees and taxes. Imagine telling someone 10 years ago an MDX is going to cost that much, they would call you insane. Yet here we are. Everything is fine.
Love my Type S MDX, just wish there was more aftermarket parts available.

Not as of yet but I’m pleased with the results as for a three row suv it I wouldn’t pass it up hopefully by the end of this year. Thanks @straightpipes
Before the first of every year, you guys should drive around in that years most favorable car and talk about what you guys think will happen in the following year with cars/models/industry etc. maybe answer old/new questions? Talk about trends that need to go away or comeback.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year of 2023!
Love the car choices you guys review! I was really interested to see your thoughts on this model specifically.
Picked up the MDX type S advance in pearl white this summer and I couldn't be anymore happier with it! a gift to myself after not driving for nearly 7 years. the only gripe I had with it was the fact it do sound like a vacuum cleaner on the outside and didn't sound like the TLX type S. after removing the mid and rear muffler it sounds SO much better. overall I'm really happy with what Acura did with this one! already pushed over 12k Miles on it lol.
Merry Christmas 🎄 to you 2.
I was very happy to see (or hear) that, in Comfort mode, there is less (or none at all?) piped-in engine sounds. I really wish every manufacturer would have a menu option to turn it off. If there was a Hemi under the hood, there would be plenty of induction noise without any enhancement required.
And piano black shiny plastic is the worst, showing fingerprints and (the soon to appear unavoidable) scratches. Use the wood trim instead please!
Thanks Bruhs. I really like this SUV despite some of the odd issues. Ride quality is amazing.
I totally agree SG. I'm enjoying mine immensely (2023 Tiger Eye Pearl on Orchid Advance). You guys also did an interesting and comprehensive review and I have watched it several times. Keep up the good work. 👍
@@rhar1044 We have a long term Tiger Eye right now. Im having trans issues any problem with yours?
@@savagegeese What kind of trans issues? Only have 600 miles on mine but I rack up miles quickly.
Wanted to buy this last year when they were announced, but they have never materialized. Bought a Q7 that was delivered the next day for MSRP and been happy ever since.
Yeah it was really weird, Acura made it sound like this car was going to be available as soon as December 2021 but my dealership didn't get anything until the next February. Glad you're happy with your purchase! The Q7 is a sweet ride.
The other night, there was a new MDX a couple car lengths behind me and its lights were blinding. I thought they had their brights on at first but damn they need to lower the light brightness a bit.
Is there a difference between the rdx and mdx this year other than the seating and size? Like are the features and stuff the same?
I just bought my MDX, Type S Advance in Liquid Carbon Metallic and I love it! I would have to spend an extra 20k to 30k if I wanted a German equivalent with all the options.
Merry Christmas guys!!! Hopefully y'all got that snow! Cause right now, in the U.S. in a lot of areas, we're getting it!
MDX Type-S is wicked. It would be amazing if they update the RDX to a Type-S with more towing capacity. RDX is the perfect size for a small family.
@@IMRgarage RDX is standard 1500lbs. MDX is 3000lbs
I just feel as an SUV, it should be min. 2000lbs. Others in the same class as the RDX, are >2000lbs
Happy holidays you crazy Canucks!
You guys should add a segment where you drive big 7 seater suvs through the streets of Dt Toronto.
The steering wheel is ode to the 70's and 80's style which is also an aftermarket cover you can install.
When I see such slim tires it makes me sweat. I heard the TLX type S tires pop easy. Anyone know if it’s wise to just change to thicker tires from jump street or is there really a durability issue there? Talking bout potholes and un-kept roadways
This video helped me pick this for me and my family. Got it in white Yuri lol
Great review, I think this car ticks a lot of boxes for most people...1st it is a 3 row SUV... It has massaging seats, great audio system, decent power, heated and cooled seats , panoramic roof, decent space behind 3rd row, charging ports for devices and equipment in all 3 rows, comfortable ride for highway cruising, height adjustable suspension, quiet, safe and reliable. This is a definitely a family vehicle 1st with a small touch enthusiast flavor.... But it's nothing crazy. In this class I would like more power but I think 350 is sufficient for a family cruiser. In a few years used I wouldn't be surprised if someone put some off-road tires on this and tries to go off-roading lol 😂 due to height adjustable suspension.
One comment about 3rd row... I think it's for ages 2+ and anyone 5'7" and under. Forward facing seats only because obviously rear facing doesnt work.
Yeah, it ticks all the boxes, and had great reliability history. And had all the power one would want in that price range. The monster 600hp V8 SUVs are for a rare breed
Nailed it. This car has so many great ‘real everyday’ features… not stuff nobody uses but they charge you for anyways
The discussion about "circle things" cheered me up a little, those "things" were made for cigarette lighters, you know... those things that we used to smoke )))
I have a 2009 Acura mdx. Was thinking of upgrading to the MDX type S but it’s short on power. It should have a min of 400 Hp. Loose all that gloss black then I would consider it.
I guess I’ll wait for the plug in version.
Merry Christmas!
Nice video! And actually Acura doesn’t sell cars in Japan, the NSX in Japan is still using Honda badge.
I’ve been waiting a while for this ngl😂

9:25 what is the random blank button second from the right? I have been trying to find a spec MDX that does not have that blank switch, but as far as I can tell even fully loaded models have it. It’s one of my pet peeves, and feels like you cheaped out on an option. Anyone know what it is?
Merry Christmas to TheStraightPipes and their fans. See if TuxMat will hook me up with a set for my '15 Mazda 6 GT

Beautiful, inside and out
Beautiful sun acura did a good job I love it and I'm getting one.
Acura has been killing it lately.🔥🔥
Jacob’s watch game is getting stronger 👍
Not sure if they were trying to manually shift the car if i heard it correctly, but if they had it in sport + mode, they also need to press the drive button twice to put it in another sports mode that will allow it to manually shift, thats what i have to do in my MDX, It is basically like a sport ++, if they didn't do it in the video.
Merry Christmas from Germany everyone
Great looking Rolex. Much better than the other one.
Yeah it’s one of the best lookin SUV’s for sure ahead turner i have 2022 Mdx ASPEC red interior
It would be cool to see a video where you do a comparison of the different infotainment design language from the major manufacturers. I feel like I'll be interested in a specific car brand and then remember that they have some bizarre infotainment interface.
This SUV is a menace to the road, awesome! This is a masterpiece!
I think I was a bit cranky when I had this, but I just didn’t feel as though the Type S justified its $72k (US) cost. It’s so good in many ways, but there’s a lot of competition at that price. You guys were very fair (and clearly less cranky). Maybe I’m just old now 😂
I saw your review and to be fair if you really look at the details this car provides the price in the US is not unwarranted. Comparing this with all the Germans and the Volvo XC90 for the same options you’re easily talking up $20K plus price difference. That’s giving Acura credit for double wishbone suspension, four corner air ride, 25 speaker audio, which would cost $3-5K easily in other brands as an upgrade.
Audi removed the double wishbone suspension at the mid model change on the Q7 and none of the Germans offer their most upgraded audio system unless you opt for the V8, which automatically put you in the six figure range. I drove an $83K GLE350 with a turbo 4 cylinder prior to the MDX purchase. One also has to consider how long they want to own and the resale values. The vast majority of reviews for this car were positive and didn’t complain about price. If this received a lot of criticism it would have more more fair to call out the shortcoming in the other cars that are extremely overpriced as well.
I think savage geese is by far the most detailed reviewer and both mark and jack praised this and even praised some of the driving smoothness over the X5 and Q7. He also praised the quality of the air suspension, audio and massage function that he said was better than his X7. If this car had a different badge with everything and cost even more then one would say anything. I’m sure of it.
Lol, if you compare it to Hyundai palisade or Kia telluride, sure, this car is much more expensive, but you obviously get a lot more luxury and features, if you compare it to Germans, obviously, this car is less expensive by 10k easily.
Eagerly waiting on you to list any competitor in this price range that offers everything or more than the MDX Type S offers
@@timmcdonald9674 No one can touch savagegeese in terms of attention to detail; that’s for sure. I think my main point was that elevating to the $70k+ price range brings it into competition with a lot of indirect competitors. You’ve got full-sized trucks and SUVs, more traditional luxury SUVs (as you mention), and other niche vehicles, such as the Land Rover Defender. Since the MDX isn’t particularly roomy or carries a lot of cargo (about the same size as a Mazda CX-9), it shrinks the target market to a pretty narrow focus. I totally get what you’re saying (and by extension Mark and Jack as well), but my perspective is that I’d probably sacrifice some of the vivacity for more space, or accept less space and near equal performance (like a Genesis GV60). I suppose over $60k-ish we’re spoiled for choice as consumers, and maybe there IS a considerable untapped market the MDX Type S will hit, but I’m not convinced there is. It’s objectively got a lot going for it, but maybe I’d be sweeter if it was $69,999. 🤷🏼♂️
Literally the video image looked better than the actual Type-S
Is it bad that I thought the thumbnail looked better than the smaller fascia? (Got BMW grills on the mind!)

Merry Christmas from Japan! You are right to say Japanese peeps wouldn’t buy this in one way. There is no Acura brand in Japan! Only Honda. And also, we don’t have Infinity. Wow! There have been a few “Acura” models available as a Honda in the past, but nowadays we don’t get any of the Acura models.
