I came to the United States with little funds and no scholarship within the 2 month of being here I got a graduate assistantship job. This life is a risk. A lot of people discouraged me but you have to put in work to be successful
It is extremely difficult to get Visa without scholarship or assistantship
I’m happy for you. Yes, life is a risk… but I would also be kind enough to let people know that it’s extremely difficult but they can make it through despite the difficulties. I know someone who came in without an assistantship and got one in his third semester… his first two semesters were more than difficult.

I first selected the kind of program I can apply to. Then I looked for Colleges Which offered TA in that line. Finally I started applying to as many as possible.
I didn't get one at the first try.
Try to build a strong application, focusing on the relevance of your background and why that college is fit for your projects.
You should really understand how things work there.

I have some questions if you don't mind:
1- The proof of fund we get from the university/ department, don't we? Or is there something I'm missing?
2- And also in the case of assistantship how much does funding the visa fee cost?
3- I want to make sure that I understand the process properly, the first thing to do is communicating the professors in the program of interest and showcasing my skills and qualifications, then if I got an approval I should go to fill the assistantship and admission applications? Then I should wait for a final response which may be a rejection inspite of the department's approval?
4- Is it possible to provide the TOEFL/IELTS score after the application and the institution response if I didn't manage to take the test early?
5- The last thing will be the deadline, if I'm interested in a fall 2024 assistantship, is it too late to start communicating departments and filling applications now?

I'll like to ask, does applying for funding (Assistantship) require a separate application from your admissions application?
Hi Faith, it depends on the school. I’ve seen schools like Missouri S&T doesn’t require a different application for assistantship but Ohio state university does.

The hardest part when applying for grad school is LOA. It's pretty hard to get LOA especially when u wanted to apply for multiple universities. Recommenders won't help u more than once.

Hi Vonny. Thank you for your video. I have a question I want to begin school only if I have an assistantship. Is it possible for you to be accepted in a university with an assistantship guaranteed? before you fully commit?
Some educational institutions combine the notification of admission decisions with the outcome of graduate assistantship position selections. While others , you can apply for them once you're admitted unconditionally into a program. My advice is to contact the program coordinator about the options available.

Great video 👏 did you get your assistantship while you were still back home? And did you apply separately for it or it was through the application for admission? Also I think you are in texas and I heard in texas universities graduate assistantships only cover the out of state portion of the tuition is that true or did you get full tuition waive? I hope you can answer?
Hi. Yes, I got it back home. I didn’t do a separate application but some schools require that. Yes, you’re right… only out of state tuition.
Hi Yvonne..I have admission to Minnesota University State Mankato. But currently, they don't have assistantship. Is it possible for me to apply for graduate assistantship in other universities where I have no admission.

Hi Omena, yes you need to show proof of funds… it depends on whatever amount your school fixes on your i20. Sometimes when it’s a full cover, they don’t require POF.

Please I want to ask,when u email the school and ask for funding and they say yes,so when you apply,is it that they already know that u requested for funding earlier and then give it to you.
