I would just go ahead and sprinkle the granules in every pot you have, just on top of the soil or soil topper. It's fine enough that it will just trickle down when you water. I do this every few months and so far no more mealies or root mealies ever again!!!
I actually did start doing that as well! The ones I used the systemic on in this video has been *spoiler alert* doing really well!!

I feel like systemic pest control has made my life easier; I'm still going to check my plants whenever I can, but I just feel so much more relaxed knowing the plants themselves absorb the pest-killer and don't get inundated anymore 😊😊

I’ve been using the systemic consistently every 2-3 months on all my plants before I get mealies. Always trying to stay ahead of them. I also use top dressing on all my plants and just sprinkle the Bonide systemic over it. Once you water it will trickle down. I’m like you, I rather get rid of my Syngoniums before I get rid of my terracottas.
I am definitely convinced & have started adding systemic to alot of my plants. Good to know that I can just apply over the top dressing, that would save me a lot of hassle when it comes time to reapply. Haha yes! Glad you feel the same way about our love for terracotta!
I have a theory about these systemic granules, take it for what it's worth. It works better on plants that are thirsty like syngoniums, philodendrons, etc. because they will drink up more of the poison. Plants that aren't as thirsty, succulents/hoyas, it doesn't work as well. I still use it but I don't feel like it's a panacea to mealy bugs. It's just one weapon in the battle.
noticed when using a cotton swab to physically remove them, you push them off the leaf and into the soil. they will just crawl up the plant again. Recommend covering the top of the soil with something when doing this so youre not creating doubling work for yourself. will look for your follow up video.
Unless you touch them and alcohol kills them directly..but definitely.if not getting it on their skin

I use this on every incoming or repotted plant in my collection. It has worked for fungus gnats(my only pest). I personally don't reapplyunless I see gnats. I also use in coordination with sticky traps.
I'm glad it works on gnats too because those little suckers can annoy me more than actual pests sometimes. Yep, I think I'm going to start using it on any new plants as well!
I have use Systemic Granuals for over a year now. It can go right on top of the top dressing. You need to water the plants to activate the Granuals.

Hi Amy, best of luck with solving the pest problem. On the subject of using terra cotta, I plant my Syngoniums in slotted orchid pots and then use the terra cotta pot as a cover pot and you could still top dress. Just a thought!!
Thanks Wanda! (my name is Stacy btw 😆👋). I currently do keep a few plants in plastic containers (usually smaller cuttings) and then put then in terracotta cover pots, it's definitely not as easy as just potting it straight in terracotta but definitely something worth considering for the syngoniums.
I hope the systemic wipes out all those little demons! It worked when I had thrips. I’m battling mealies on my Hoyas too. I might have to try it again. Looking forward to your update!
I will definitely do an update but it definitely looks promising! Mealies love Hoyas so this might be the best solution in keeping them at bay.
It won’t hurt to use more than it says on the packaging. Unless I go crazy with this stuff I don’t always see results.
I love top dressing, I don’t like the look of perlite popping to the top. Sometimes I’ll use leca if I have a plant that needs a little support. Or occasionally bark. I love to use akadama but expensive when filling your tank and buying groceries is the current challenge. Another enjoyable video 👍

If I'm not mistaken it's better to mix it into the soil, otherwise it causes your soil to appear moldy. But if you top dress your soil, it should be fine. I also add a couple of capfuls to my pre-made soil. mixes.
I've done both ways so far and it seems to be fine and things are definitely looking promising!
Hope this works for you. The constant battle with pests can get very tiring & we end up tossing the plant. I will always spend a lot of time trying to get rid of pests but there comes a time when enough is enough. I hate tossing plants. Thankfully I haven't had to do a lot of tossing over the years. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.😊

Where do meely bugs come from? I just have fungus gnats and i sprinkle cinnamon on the top soil to control them.
Here in Sweden systemics are prohibited 😢 they aren’t the best for the environment so I understand, but sometimes they can be very useful 🙈
Totally understandable! I don't think I would use systemic outdoors but since its only on my indoor plants it seems like a good option to keep those pests away.
Try Systemic Bonide Eight (it's a spray that has the right amount of sulphur in it to kill just about any houseplant pest). Best of luck on all your beautiful plants! 🪴✨️

Most of your Hoyas seems to be small and compact is it by choice or it is just the type of Hoya you have?
I don't have any special way to care for my ric rac cactus - I just leave it on my east facing window. I do keep it quite rootbound which I heard helps with getting it to flower. As for my Hoyas it's a combination of what you said, most of my hoyas I got as really small cuttings so it takes some time to grow them out and the rarer ones usually tend to grow quite slowly. I also do have a tendency to love smaller plants though. 😁

How long would you say it took the leafless H. Haniae to start to show growth and did you do anything to encourage growth on it? I have an H. Sarawak in the same boat.
I think it started putting out new growth a few weeks after I put it into stratum. And no, I don't do anything specific to encourage it, I honestly wasn't expecting anything to come of it but it did!

Nope! Nope! Sorry, I cannot watch this. I have been adding this systemic to my plant mixes for the past two years. IT WORKS! But, now I think there may be a microscopic issue going on with a couple of my Hoyas, and yes, I'm "afraid" to investigate. I know everything is going to be okay with your babies. No plant parent wants to toss a plant. Love your vids, but I cannot watch this.
Hi Gloria - There is a microscopic mite (flat or broad mite) that is attacking hoyas but will also attack other plants as well. I'm having this issue as well as the usual pests. You can spray a mixture of sulfur and water on the stems, front and back of the hoyas. There are two theories on how long to leave it on. I know that there are a lot of videos on CZcams about them and how to treat them. I've lost several hoyas to these bugs so I'm in the process of treating with surfur spray. Just a fyi

@zandrawostel3765 I met a Phillipina lady that used safers sulfur as a spray and nothing else..interesting as I never heard anyone else saying..I live in canada and it's pretty.dry here.
