Jesus says in John 4:34. "My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.." He commissions to do this same work. The promise seems to be that He will provide for us as we feed others. Jesus told Peter, "Feed My sheep."

It's remarkable how God directs events so His will is accomplished.
Consider Joseph the adopted father of Jesus, returning from Egypt after fleeing because of Herod the Great - the ruler who expanded the great temple of Jerusalem. Joseph could have stayed in Bethlehem but Herod Archelaus becomes ethnarch of Judah, Samaria, and Idumea (a ruler of such incompetence and cruelty that Rome replaces him). Instead Joseph goes to Galilee governed by the tetrarch Herod Antipas (a ruler who will send Jesus back to Pilate for his trial).
And in this reading we see Jesus in a boat crossing the Sea of Galilee with fishermen.
So while these rulers might imagine they are causing the future - it is God who determines the outcome.
