- 67 Bassman demo. This amp was a complete teardown and resto project. Built as the AA864 circuit in the middle and the a Marshall-Esque Left channel. Demo includes LesPaul, Strat, Tele, and 335. With and without a pedal board...

Dude! This was such a helpful and comprehensive demo from a player's view. I'm currently on the fence about scoring a 64 model with this circuit and matching cab. This was very thorough. Thank you for doing this.
I have a 67 that was an AB165 circuit, that has been reverted back to AA864 specs. And the bass channel has been modded to 5F6-A tweed spec, which is what the JTM45 was based on. It is truly lovely!
How do you change the ab165 to an aa864? I’m about to buy a 66 bassman and I would like to convert it to a aa864
@@Hillelfan02 bring it to a tech. He will be able to switch the schematics. Cheers
@@kosmicwizard do you mind me asking how much you think it would cost to have an amp tech convert it to an aa864 circuit?
@@Hillelfan02 Around $100 plus parts would be my guess, if nothing else is needed
@@Hillelfan02 aa864 is going to be cleaner and quieter than ab165
Great amp! 🤪🤘
Sweet tone man
With an A//B switch that would be perfect
Both channels sound fantastic. I'd love to know how the bass channel was modified. Is there a layout or schematic out there?
I wonder what it would sound like with a treble booster in front of it.
HI, nice sounding setup. What does the old bright switch do on the Marshall-esque side? I couldn't really detect a change in sound when you switched it. Thanks
That switch is a mild mid boost...
Great demo! How do you feel the blonde bassman differ from BF era?
I love the blonde era Bassmans a lot. They come though the shop from time to time for repairs or a tune-up.
@@65Corvette So you prefer the blonde? Reason I'm asking is that I'm planning a build/conversion of an old ab165 that I have to either a cathode biased 65' BF bassman with some Marshall like tweeks, or just go to a stock blonde. I'm hearing a lot of good things about them, but have never played or even encountered one.
@@willdenham Will, I don't think you can go wrong with either honestly. The Blondes are a little more nasty sounding (in a good way) and the AA864 has that BF chime. Really depends on you. Good luck and have fun with it :)
@@65Corvette Yeah, I've heard the blondes and brown panel are in between a tweed and a BF. So the 'nasty' part might be the tweed oriented midrange they inherit.
hi,
i just modded my 68 silverface bassman and my tech needs more infos on schematics could you help us please?
Do you have a schematic for the mods you did to this amp? I have a 66 bassman that I would like to modify like this as well
Well I do but since I charge money to do these mods I don't really pass it around. I hope you understand. Thanks
I love the mod, I have a 66 blackface ab165 circuit that I would like to mod. I love what you did, I was wondering if you could provide any input
Well it all depends on what level you are at in regards to tube amp repair/mods. I don't recommend anyone get inside these without some sort of training or supervision from a qualified tech unless you are already there. The AA864 schematic and layout are well published online from a number of resources and books. The Marshall mods I do are not published however as that is proprietary. There are many ways I have seen this done and none are wrong just different.
can you "blend" the two channels with a split cable or AB/Y box. ?
TheMortybob Yes, it is perfectly safe to blend channels with a jumper or Y cable. I just finished building another 67 exactly like this. It is on "The Gear Page" and Reverb for sale. Look for 3 CZcamss I just put up for the gut shots and quick sound demo.
Cheers,
Mike
wow...really cool. dig this era Bassman(s).
love the "clang" they get on the normal channel. nice Mod to the bass channel. I can see some applications to mixing
the two. good job/demo!
Thanks man. I have a 67 for sale if you are interested. I just finished it a few days ago. Its a good buy
+Nash Ville - I have a 67 that's been modded but needs some work, would you be able to do it?
Of course. Look me up at p2pamps.com
