Building a corral style hog trap.

  • In this video I show and explain how I built my corral style trap. Materials used are 4-16'x50" wire cattle panels, 12-6' T posts, fencing (tie) wire, fencing pliers and a T post driver (I found it). Establish an area where hogs are known to frequent. Use a trail camera or judge by signs such as rooting, droppings, tracks, etc. Set the trap up on flat ground. A few tricks to know are, be sure to tie the wire to the outside so it's not as easy to be broken by the hogs once inside. Place T posts on the outside of the trap for better support for wire panels. STAY HYDRATED! lol.

    Ty so much for this video, I didn’t even know I had a hog problem until I found 3 of my food plots tore slam up, bought some cell cameras and now I know I have 5 different groups of hogs living on or near my property, I just found this video, I am in the middle of building one myself, Ty again for explaining it better and in layman terms for this old timer, I’m not good in math neither, but you explained everything way better than most videos out there, Ty again, God Bless you and yours, be safe out there!

    You can put the pegs in and out of the coral.

    Love this design and size. If you had to do it again how many post would you use for 4 16ft panels?

      @BackFortyTV  Před 4 lety +1

      dog5911 thanks for commenting. And I actually took it down and moved it last week (hopefully video coming soon) I’d say it depends on where you are. If you’re in an open area, I’d say make it pretty big. Thanks for watching and the sub!

      And if you aren’t on as strict of a budget as I was, I’d suggest the cattle panels with the 4” squares. They hold the juveniles and piglets better.

      @dog5911 Před 4 lety

      Back Forty TV I think we are all on a strict budget these days, but just means I have to spend longer saving up. Right now I am kinda planning and figuring out size and price. I am in western Arkansas, the land I am trapping on one is cattle pasture and the other is woods that are used for logging.

    • @BackFortyTV
      @BackFortyTV  Před 4 lety +1

      dog5911 100% bro. 3 panels would be fine on a budget and you can always go back and add some.

    • @BackFortyTV
      @BackFortyTV  Před 4 lety +1

      And to answer the question that I just realized I didn’t answer. I’d use at least 3 posts per panel.

      kng2bishop it did really well. I have a video (part 2) that shows hogs in the trap and how it handled them. If you have any questions during your build feel free to ask. Thanks for watching.

      @BackFortyTV  Před 3 lety

      They were 10 feet apart in this video. I shortened it on the next build (big boat in area) to every 8 feet.

    • @BackFortyTV
      @BackFortyTV  Před 3 lety

      I’m sure it’s possible, but I’d try to use at least two, simply for how hard it would be to man handle one panel. But very well possible and worth a try.

    I tried this but the hogs seem leary to go in. I baited them to the area first and they were eating the corn. Then I put the trap up and they just eat the corn on the outside of the trap. I've left the door propped open for now but they still won't go in. Any suggestions?

    • @BackFortyTV
      @BackFortyTV  Před 4 lety

      Thomas Copeland yes sir! I had the same problem. With just the flap style push open, mine wouldn’t go in either. If you go to my channel find the part two video. In that video I caught 4 hogs the day after I changed up on the door. Basically all I did was use the same flap, but rig it to a make shift trigger and it worked out great! Hope it does the same for you! Any other questions, feel free to ask. Thanks for watching!

      @twc9000 Před 4 lety +1

      Back Forty TV Thanks for the reply. I have the door and the other end of the trap open now. I think I just need to give the hogs more time and eventually they will get brave enough to go in.

    • @BackFortyTV
      @BackFortyTV  Před 4 lety

      Thomas Copeland absolutely. After I rigged the trigger to mine and the door stood open it only took two days. I hope the same works for you. Good luck and thanks again for watching!

      @@BackFortyTV One of the guys I work with has trapped hogs a lot and he said the hogs I'm seeing are trap smart. They have seen other hogs trapped and they won't go in a trap. It seems to be true because I have video on my game cam of the hogs standing at the opening to the trap and only eating the corn at the opening. Most of the corn is in the trap, but they won't go in. I might take down the trap and let them get used to eating the corn again, and then put up a bigger trap and try to camouflage it with tree limbs.

    • @BackFortyTV
