    Wow! I can't believe I just found this video. I've been torn between what to purchase first. A 3-4 Axis Slider or Gimbal. I finally decided on the Ronin RS2 Pro Kit. IMy reasons for going with the gimbal first were more opportunities for use. Additionally, I was thinking that there has to be a way to mount my gimbal on a slider and save money by just purchasing the slider and motion module. Yesterday, I almost pulled the trigger on an Edelkrone bundle but decided not to. I just couldn't bring myself to drop another 2K+. Then low and behold tonight I came across your video and it's like you were reading my mind, I can't wait to see what you post next. Hopefully, you'll be able to get more granular on your setup. Thanks for a great video.

    • @TheUnMarketingGroup
      @TheUnMarketingGroup  Před 2 lety +1

      @@caseyandtim The DJI active track works well but the gimbal software for setting key frame positions is very finicky and has no ping-pong mode. For example in an interview situation where you have the slider running back and forth the best way to have the gimbal track your subject is use active track as the head moves back and forth. It would be great if one could set keyframes along the slide that match the subject position and then just have the software run the keyframes forward and then reverse to match the duration of the slide?

    Great video! I’ve wondered this same thing ever since I got my Ronin S. Seems like a solid setup although I haven’t tried it yet.

    Appreciate this! Rather than using Raveneye for this type of conrolled setting, I'm thinking to just use the Create modes to set a couple waypoints. Hope to see an updated, more in-depth video if you make one!

    • @TheUnMarketingGroup
      @TheUnMarketingGroup  Před 3 lety +1

      Hello Sky. Thank for your comment. I tried that and it works well if you're able to time the slide and the waypoint track correctly. When I tried this technique I found I needed to set several waypoints along the slide as the pan speed relative to the object I was shooting needed to change as the slide got closer to the object. The other slightly frustrating thing as the lack of a feature in the apo to have the RS2 ping-pong or repeat the move automatically. I may just be missing a feature of the app that allows this so if you or anyone else knows how to make that work I'd love to hear it. Thanks for the comment and yes, I am working on a more in-depth follow up that includes how I've incorporated the DJI baseplate kit.

    Hello, great video. I have also liked the idea to combine a gimbal to a slider or a minijib. I do have a question, do you think syrp genie linear would be compatible with Ifootage shark slider?

    • @TheUnMarketingGroup
      @TheUnMarketingGroup  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi. Thank you for your feedback! While I've never used the ifootage shark sliders, if you're thinking about using the genie with something like the S1 then from the pictures I can't see why it wouldn't work. The brilliance of the genie is that it simply mounts between the camera and slider base and pulls itself back-and-forth using a slick little rope and pulley system. The ropes just attach to the ends - I just wrap mine around the ends and tie a simple knot. I have used the genie on a dana dolly with pretty long pipes and a relatively heavy camera package with no issue.

    • @TheUnMarketingGroup
      @TheUnMarketingGroup  Před 3 lety +3

      Hi Philippe. I agree - it isn't perfect. The tracking is almost too good in that the combined movement of the gimbal and the subject can cause the frame to shift around a little too much. I'm finding that this can be fine tuned a little better by adjusting the tracking sensitivity. It will also follow the subject when they get up or reach for a drink of water and then sometimes loose tracking. But overall it works well enough and it is very convenient to have a second gimbal mounted camera already balanced that you can use to quickly transition from interview to b-roll etc. I would love to be able to directly compare the RS2 with the Edelkrone or the Syrp Genie. Thanks for your comment!

  • @smartintech2

    Nice.
    I'm looking for some inspiration to build that combination.
    As I'm currently developing my own control to keep the slider and the gimbal in sync i'm interested what might be useful for this setup.
    Currently i just manually move the gimbal to a certain position, hit my "learn" key and then calculate the trajectory by interpolating all axis to that position and move it by sending waypoints to the gimbal and the slider.
    Would it make sense to have more keyframes to build e.g. a realtime speedramp?

      @TheUnMarketingGroup  Před rokem

      The slider is my old Rhino, and the motor unit is the Syrp Genie II Linear. The gimbal is the DJI RS II (obviously). I have used this setup in several productions and would not recommend it. The DJI active track works too well and causes the camera to swing unpredictably with head and hand movements. While it works, and you can get a few good cutaway shots, I have realized that a good motion control head is needed for a smooth slide/pan, keeping the interview subject in a specific frame.

      Hi Adam. I don't have either so can't say for sure but I took a look at all the videos they have and I can't see why this combo wouldn't work. I'm currently using the great little Tilta RS2 Power Supply base on the slider which lowers the camera, makes it more stable and provides power to the gimbal from a P-Tap battery. I would think this would also be a great way to mount the RS2 to the jib and use the RavenEye to track a subject or control from a smartphone while the Jib is in operation. But pure speculation on my part. If @edelkrone wants to send me over a Jib, i'd be happy to test it and report back ;-)

      @@TheUnMarketingGroup That’s actually a great idea as far as mounting the RS2 with the power mount. I’ve invested in the edelkrone products but to use their new active tracking system I would have to update what I have so I thought it might just work out better to use the RS2 as my run and gun and then also be able to attach it with ease to the jib.
