    There are other cool Aida variations I can come up with - Aida ending in Man's R Shadow Position, or Aida ending in Lady's R Shadow Position(Then do steps 1-2 of the Aida Position Hip Rocks into Rumba Walks in that same position, either one, going continuously forward. You can curve the forward walks in a circle for more accent.) There is also the Aida Static Stretch - you do the entry to Aida as usual and at the end of the Aida, extend your arms and stretch your back in an arch to create a picture line. This is great for dancesport! There is also the Rudolph Aida - on the preceding step to the end step leading to the Aida, man and lady both "ronde" their non-working legs on the "and" of the 3rd beat before ending in Aida on the 4-1. The Rudolph is often used in International Standard dancing to mean any figure that ends with both couples "ronde-ing" in a regular figure, but this can work here in this aida variation. Also - the Aida into Hip Rocks into Fencing Line Stretch Freeze - you do the Aida, the follow which is the Hip Rocks in that Aida position, and when you do the forward cross (both dancers) for the Fence Position, elongate the body into a static stretch with both arms rising to parallel to the floor - hold "2 3 4 1 2 3" (hold 6 beats that is in that Fence), and finally end up with a side step exit into any Rumba figure (like Hand to Hand/New York/Shoulder to Shoulder). Great for dancesport too!!

    Dig that followers spiral variation.
    I learned the grapevine originally then an advanced variation with a syncopated turn through the middle.

      @whirlwind awesome. Nice variation with the grapevine and turn! Sounds like you like to spin? 😊

      @@DanceInsanity I like the contrast of quick and slow with rumba and I feel aieda is a perfect place to do it.
      Have you ever experimented with a spinning top or crab walk with a spiral to aieda? Or use that spiral and have the man fake into a shadow walk with the lady? I'm curious howd it look. :)

    The Curl is still the most popular rumba variation "precede" to the Aida. I described this as the first steps of a basic movement with the leader leading the follower into her loop turn spiral at the end of step 3 of the basic movement, and the next 3 steps will be the final entry into the full Aida itself. (Guess what - the alternate ending to this is Opening Out to Fan instead of Aida ending - either one is great!!)

    • @charlessmith263
      @charlessmith263 Před 5 lety +4

      Tip: The leader does usually (in the curl variation) an open check (assuming Open Facing position) as the follower is pulled close to the leader before the spiral and the ending into Aida.

    As always: I love it and appreciate your ideas, tips and hints very much!
    I disagree with the classic aida though. From my memory (don't have "Laird" with me) the first step is a forward walk turning and not to side. The amount of turn was meant to be 3/8 in classic version.
    Awsome variations, must try grapevine!

    • @DanceInsanity
      @DanceInsanity  Před 6 lety +7

      3m Tanzsport thanks!! Yes! Try out the grapevine and let us know how it goes. 😊
      The Laird technique book is great! You can absolutely do the forward walk... Many a times, as you know, there would be more than one "Classic" way. So thanks for bringing that up.
      We are using the istd syllabus for the classic way we are showing here... Which asks for an 1/8 turn in the first walk back, then another 1/8 turn in the 2nd walk back. We just feel it's cleaner and more precise to just do a 1/4 turn.
      👍🏼
