If you listening to this in 2024 you a real OG Old school Atlanta stand up
I'm a 40yo white dude from the country in New Hampshire, can't relate at all. But damn if Goodie Mob hasn't been blowing me away since '95.
I'm from Gary, Indiana ...when this hit in 95 me and my homies were hooked. We fuck with The entire Dungeon Family forever. Khujo's verse may be the most underrated and under appreciated verse in rap's history....
Hell yuhh
Born and raised in Atlanta. This song randomly popped in my head when i woke up this morning. Had to stop on by and give Goodie mob another listen 💯
Born and raised in the uk that’s how far goodie mob music was reaching
R.I.P. Rico Wade! Thank you for your contribution to the culture. A true visionary and mastermind behind the music. #OrganizedNoize #DungeonFamily 👑🙏🏽🕊️
Man this the first I heard of his passing. Dam shame, Google search only referenced New York Times announcing his passing and Rico's Instagram. Sad man still isn't receiving sufficient "flowers" for what he meant to Hip Hop imo.
RIP Rico Wade🤲🏽🤲🏽🕊🕊 one of my favorite beats of all time
Way ahead of their time. It's unreal how prophetic this track is. Goodie Mob put out timeless and spiritual music💯
They absolutely saw the direction we were heading. I was 17 when this song came out so I was aware of my surroundings & can say technology was not a huge part of our world. Credit cards not nearly as common some places wouldn’t take them on small purchases & sometimes still ran manually through boxy device that made a ditto copy & was MAILED to be processed & paid. Bank cards to access ATMs were top tech. Tape players will still standard in cars & home radios. Cameras recording 24/7 were not common & mostly only found inside larger dept & discount stores to monitor for shoplifters. I still remember being able to put gas in my car BEFORE paying!I can’t lie, I put gas in my car & drove off on numerous occasions & never once did anything happen- I’m sure there were no outdoor cameras. Cell phones were basically non existent. My aunt had a car phone & that was SO cool😂. The internet was a non factor. I remember my aunt in DC showing me how email worked at job & my mind was 🤯
My point is for them to understand & anticipate what was going to happen is incredibly inciteful considering things were still relatively simple & tech still had a ways to go before it became widespread & affordable to most people.
Read the book of ‘ The Handmaids tale’. It was written in 1985 & set in the future. One of the craziest parts is about money. The story has all women loosing control of their lives & this is achieved because their money is gone. The story explains that paper money no longer exist & that all money is in accounts. No one ever sees their money as it just a concept & and it doesn’t exist outside of an account balance. SOUND FAMILIAR? The extreme conservatives who take over the government freeze all amounts belonging to women & they loose all power & become reliant on men.
"Listen to me now, believe me later on".
*We should've listened.*

In 1995 I moved from the country of South America Suriname where I grew up to my native Dutch country. That year Goodie Mob released Soul Food. I turned the album to gray. There was nothing as conscious and soulful in that as Goodie Mob. Soul Food is an album that you can listen to without skipping. A masterpiece.
I never paid attention to these lyrics until now, that they was talking about today's world back in the day. Deeper song than it was lead off to be.
