    I must say the contents in your channel are some of the best materials pertaining to Tekken 7 and Bryan. This is particularly helpful for someone whom is picking up the game (after TK3 for me). I appreciated the efforts you put in to structure your contents and present them with clarify. It really reflects on your knowledge and understanding of the game and your passion to share and educate.
    Your emphasis on movement, frame data, match up knowledge demonstrates how sophisticated Tekken can be and can be enjoyed in so many levels.
    One thing if I may suggest, is the technical demonstration of fluid movement using joystick or pad such as Korean back-dash, wave dash. This would be greatly appreciated.

    • @PeterYMao
      @PeterYMao  Před 4 lety

      Absolutely man. If you enjoy playing Hwoarang, no need to stop. However, if you are feeling tired of the character and or feeling like quitting Tekken. Then I suggest switching characters.

    • @talbottsands3560
      @talbottsands3560 Před 4 lety +1

      @@PeterYMao I enjoy hwoarang but I feel like the character is just too hard to master with all the stance options etc... I play tekken but I probably play 2d fighters significantly more (came in 5th at an MK11 tourney recently) and I feel like it would be nice to have more than one character. Hwoarang is really my only character up until this point so I figure maybe I should add another.

    • @PeterYMao
      @PeterYMao  Před 4 lety

      @@talbottsands3560 Truth be told, I think it's important to stick to one particular character until you are fairly confident in that character. While you may be extremely good in 2D fighters, 3D games are quite different. However, if you feel that you have learned all there is to know about your character and/or feel that you want to pick up an easier character, there is no shame in switching. I do advise that you please make sure to invest 80% of your time into your main. The reason for this is it takes lots of time to be confident with a character, know how to deal with situations with your character, and how to work around things. For example, if you play Bryan you need to have solid movement and knowledge of MU as he has very few panic moves. He relies on solid defense, mind games, and abilities to recognize openings. But if for example you play a character like Law, then you will have to master more of the offensive side of things as he is best played as a up close poking character. Chipping away at the opponent's health, forcing them into more and more disadvantageous situations. And his YOLO or panic moves are plenty. So all in all, up to you man. If you want an easier character then definitely feel free to switch. Like I said, no shame. No shame at all. Hwoarang is definitely no easy character to learn, so it's quite understandable, if you feel he is difficult.

      @@PeterYMao good points. Yeah I can play hwoarang decent enough to make green ranks but I just cant seem to improve anymore with him. The characters that interest me apart from him are bryan, akuma, and paul. (Akuma I can play fairly decent due to alot of sf4 in my past, but throwing in sidesteps really changes the way he plays) thank you for responding, it seems alot of fgc channels really dont interact with their fans that much, definitely shows your integrity as a youtuber and player :)

    The rabbit hole gets deeper. I'm looking at the match-up chart and wondering if there's a general reason why Lee isn't in the same axis of "keep out" as Law & Shaheen despite fitting in that counter-hit/slide character grouping. I'm assuming they have better space control & homing that's detrimental to Bryan's gameplan.

    • @PeterYMao
      @PeterYMao  Před 5 lety +2

      Law and Shaheen both have great homing attacks, and they both on the very surface resemble Lee. They all have slide mix-ups, they all have a hopkick of sorts, and they all have similar frames on d/f+1 and such. However there are some huge differences which makes Law and Shaheen much more dangerous than Lee up close.
      Law has a d+2,3 which is high crushing comes out in 10 frames and launches, execution is very easy to do. Law also has things like f+1+2 as a means of pressure which up close is very dangerous because it puts in you minus frames and forces you into crouch. And last but not least, Law has excellent pokes and pressure up close even his lows.
      Shaheen has a hopkick that is arguably top 5 in the game. It in some situations its crushes highs. Shaheen also gets plus frames on some of his lows or they leave him neutral, in addition to have a very good 12 frame punisher.
      Lee on the other hand has range issues on his hopknee, is minus on hit with his lows, and requires significantly more execution than Shaheen and Law. There's a bunch of other things, but short of writing another paragraph, just know TMM and I talked about where to place Lee. Originally I had him closer towards keep out, but then he suggested that playing a little more up close was probably better. And now that I think about it, I kinda agree.

    Okay i also responed to a other video you made, for now almost halve way this one is more clear. As i commented on your other video im totaly new to the online matches mabye played like 10 in tag tournamentn2 but i lost 8 or 9 out of 10 . The other 2 where just luck or they where sleeping lol.👀 i played some agianst a friend, who is also new in tekken 7 but played more other tekken games started from the early ps og days till xbox series x ( xbox one version for mow) He played all axcept tekken 4 or 5 but anyway he always smashes buttens while we play from A -> X -> Y -B with high-lows stands. And all the above backwards for excemple. He doesnt totaly know what hes doing but he knows it better then me, he mostly plays the female characters. And from my opinion they are faster then bryan. And like you said bryan is best in his mid atacks, but that easly blocked when the other player does nothing and waits for the counter after the mid block after that i get my ass kicked like im nothing. So im kinda looking for a combo/simulair to deal with this kinda situations. Im not a really bad player in general i just dont know the right combos.
    Oh and why do you leave a gab in the visualizing game plan demonstration? The way i see it this leads to a big oprning for a big counter but i dont know for sure, so please explain.🤔

      *Lili* is quite good at range 1 since she has a lot of moves that can lock you down such as d/f+1, d/f+3, qcf+3+4, d+3, f,F+4 these moves when mixed up are a real pain to deal with if you are not familiar with how to get out of them so best to play at around range 1.5 to 2.
      *Paul* has some of the best homing attacks in the game with b+1, u/b+2, qcb+4, and some other attacks. Many of these on block is safe for Paul and at the same time on hit provide him with great frame advantage or a knockdown which then allows him to run in for pressure.
      *King* you can actually afford to SS a bit more because his homing attacks are not nearly as good as someone like Paul's. Additionally, King has one of the best throw games so SS can actually avoid some of the throws which is sometimes quite a good incentive to SS.

    i love your series and im learning a lot, but i noticed that, the main thing that prevents me from using these tactics is the gameplay of other players at my level. they just spam broken moves, or just play so casual and so nonsense that i cant predict wtf are they doing

    • @PeterYMao
      @PeterYMao  Před 2 lety +1

      To be honest don't ever blame the tactics of the other players at your level. They are doing what they are doing, always look inwards at what "you" can improve on. Is there something you can't deal with? Go into the practice mode and try to work on it. Usually there is always an answer to something. You don't always need to "predict" what they are doing. It would be nice, but you can't always do it so you need to learn how to condition the opponent to do what you want them to. If they can't get conditioned, then keep doing what works. If you do hatchet into hatchet and it always works, then keep doing it. No need to change what you're doing if it works. Likewise... your opponent shouldn't have to change what they are doing if you're not adapting. I hope that helps.

    @DocFriday Před 5 lety +1

    This video is great, the chart is pretty much 99% on point. However, you mention that movement is what ties his gameplan all together. I'll have to disagree. Out of all the characters in the cast, Bryan is on the lower spectrum of characters requiring movement to operate efficiently. Your point in D4 SSR into F3 is (in my opinion) wrong. You shouldn't sidestep and look for counter hits. If sidestepping (i.e. Hopkick) is your purpose, you should look for natural launch punishes with Jet Upper. In the end, as a beginner, (Which I assume is the target audience for this video) you can use Bryan efficiently without a lot of vertical movement.
    Just in case, I'm not saying Bryan doesn't require movement, I'm just saying that he's not as depended on it as other characters (Kazuya, Devil Jin, etc) because his toolset and gameplan do a very good job compensating for a lack of movement.
    But hey, that's just my opinion. Love your videos by the way. They are extremely well constructed.

    • @fatman9183
      @fatman9183 Před 5 lety +2

      I don't see why not. You can do both. Obviously in either case, nothing is guaranteed and depends on the situation. In an ideal world, you'd SS and then see if they attack, and if they do is it a fast move that will whiff - do Jet Upper. Or if it is a slow move that you can counterhit with f3 or b1. Easier said than done of course. Like he said in the video, it depends on what your opponent likes to do. Apply accordingly to scenario

      I like what you said, I’m only going to add a little to that. It depends on the match up of who’s playing. For example KNEE’s Bryan pretty dangerous good at what he does. However JimmyjTran’s Bryan has more of a technical matter to his character. I believe in having both of those ideals while you are playing. Yes that is at high level play yes not everyone has their abilities down pat. But creating the game plan in mid match is something you can do and work on. Prime example Tekken world tour finals Qudans vs Ranchu, Devil Jin vs Panda. DJ is supposed to be the best character in the game But Ranchu had a solid game plan against Qudans. One can argue about online play there’s a difference between everyone who plays, some may double up on attacks others might just do the same pattern over and over again. These things can still be applied during match it takes time

    • @PeterYMao
      @PeterYMao  Před 5 lety +2

      Hi malevolence109, thank for your input and opinion. I'm glad you enjoyed the content. :) I want to say that I think we have differing ideas on how to play Bryan. You are correct, Bryan does not have the movement that Kazuya, Devil Jin, Heihachi have which I'm assuming in this case you are referring to wavedash. However, movement for Bryan is still huge, since he needs a certain amount of space depending on the match-up. And since Bryan's panic moves are limited, movement will be one of his few ways to make space and create openings.
      Also I would like to know why not SS and look for counter hits? I see lots of players do this from beginner ranks, to intermediates to advanced to pros. I would like to hear your logic on this some more. SS and then trying to whiff punish a hopkick on reaction is extremely extremely hard and not easy. Just SS into JU is hard enough for some people, and having to visually see that a hopkick has been evaded and then throw out a JU requires years of skill that I don't think some of the beginners have here.

    • @DocFriday
      @DocFriday Před 5 lety +1

      @@PeterYMao Yeah we probably do. In my opinion, sidestepping into a CH move requires too much commitment for little reward. You set up a SSR with D4 and then do a F3. Like you said, it's not a foolproof plan for the same reasons you mentioned after your explanation. The way I see it, you're only rewarded if the opponent goes for a string without a lot of tracking.
      However, setting up a SSR/SWR with the intention of whiff punishing with a NH launcher (JU, F4,1) covers short range whiffs, which is the biggest weakness of setting up a sidestep into a F3, and most importantly, whiffed pokes. I won't get a launch if F3 connects on a recovering opponent. JU covers that. Naturally, it's much harder but the reward is also better.
      But hey, that's just my nitpick and way I play the character. Once again, love the content. Looking forward to the next one.

      @@DocFriday Thank you so much for the great discussion :) I also try to tailor this guide to more beginners and getting to think about moves in pairs. It is very hard to SS JU something like a d/f+1 or even a d/f+2 for that matter. But much easier to do something like SS into f+3. But I do see where you are coming from. Ideally eventually as the players become more advanced, then they can start doing that and branching out into more optimal solutions. Thanks again for the awesome talks in this comment section ^_^

      @PeterYMao  Před 5 lety +2

      Hi Edwin, I'm sorry you felt that way about the content. A lot of time and effort when into making this video for instance the match-up chart towards the end, as well as thinking about the different ways to explain the fluidity of developing a game plan. I was gearing this more towards beginners to help them understand that that the concepts of keep out, counter hitting, pressure all flow to and from another.
      As you said, perhaps it was too basic, but I think that sometimes stating something that you already know isn't particularly a bad thing as it helps to reinforce. And yes, this video is serving as a backbone to helping build a bigger series. I really hope it turns out as well as I had hoped. Thanks for the feedback.
