  • @Contevent
    @Contevent Před 7 lety +128

    I remember the feelings of this mission.
    "What? I'm being attacked?"
    For a moment, I truly felt like my character was going to die, it was truly a hopeless situation. And it got me invested in the story more than anything. I remember how furious I was, seeing them in Haven.
    I remember thinking "You're not touching one of MY people!"
    Corypheus hit hard, but the only thing he did was making sure I would pursue him to the end of the world.

    When I saw that Inon Zur would not be returning for Dragon Age: Inquisition, I was quite skeptical. When games change composers in a franchise, it ends up changing the dynamic of it, and not always for the better. But after hearing tracks like "Main Theme", "Calling The Inquisition", "Alexius", and now THIS, I am officially hooked. I cannot get enough of this music and how WELL it intertwines with the story so far. It's grand and beautiful; it's heroic, and emoting when it needs to be. No disrespect to Mr. Zur because I've loved his themes, too, but it adds something that (in my opinion) Dragon Age was missing. Thanks so much for the upload!

    This theme brought certainty where there is none, the Herald will die.
    Or could have died. If this had been any other medium than a video game, our character sacrificing him/or herself to allow the others to escape makes sense. The heroic sacrice is a recurring theme in epic fantasy after all. But either way, this music is fantastic and it really has that desperate last stand feel to it.

    • @SeppukuAddict
      @SeppukuAddict Před 9 lety +6

      +NoMoreNever But then Corypheus lives, the Inquisitor fails and we have to wait for either a new game or DLC to continue the primary objective. I understand where you're coming from, it'd be cool to have a bittersweet ending like that but I don't see it being the Battle of Haven.

    • @NoMoreNever
      @NoMoreNever Před 9 lety +1

      +Giantdad Lives Hmm, well instead of the Herald dying he/she could have been captured by Corypheus as he studies the Anchor, meanwhile the other party members plan to rescue the Herald.
      In context of the game it would have made sense if we played as Hawke for that specific mission, as well as serving the needs of the story. It would be similar to the quest in Origins where its possible to be captured and you can play as your companions in an attempt to spring the player character from jail.
      But I agree that killing the Herald permanently at this point would make little sense.

    I have started my very first playthrough of this game last week. Never heard or saw anything about Dragon Age before but was craving a new RPG world after spending countless hours in the world of Skyrim/ Elder Scrolls. The story, lands, factions and all are very confusing for someone with zero background knowledge, but I had this battle of Haven yesterday, 30 hours into the game and had goosebumps from start to finish.
    While I do think that Skyrim overall is still the much better game, Dragon Age Inquisition surpasses it in terms of atmosphere and carrying the stakes of the world and story over to the player. The threats and impact of the story in this game feels far more serious than the civil war or returning dragons in Skyrim, which I enjoy a lot.

      @@Bethgael they should've had both Calpurnia and Samson not matter which side you picked since Red Templars and Venatori both exist anyway
      Mages are definitely better, whether you imprison or free them is up to you but Mages has the better storyline. Hushed Whispers is a better standalone than Redoubt, Dorian is much better with the Mages route while Cole doesn't change at all, plus Cole's "rescue" at Haven is better than Dorians.
      Fiona is easily one of the most important characters in DA, she's the mother of Alistair and slept with King Maric, cured of the Taint by the Architect, Grand Enchanter of all of the circles of Magi, started the rebellion...and you kill her in a pathetic boss fight that makes no sense
      Tavish on the other hand is a random homicidal brute who you fight as a giant monster, much better!

    This should've been the high point of Inquisition before the fight against Corypheus. Instead of Haven, it should've been battle for Skyhold. Instead, they put it too early. Yeah, battle at Emerald Graves was okay, but ever since this mission, it just went downhill, making the climax fight very anticlimatic. If this was a bit more recent before the fight against Corypheus, it would've been more emotional and tension filling. Like you don't know if you're going to win or not, because of such a heavy blow you took.
    But after this mission, you kind of just keep getting more and more powerful, making Cory seem like a joke. A good blow like this would've put you back on your toes and remind you the threat of Cory. Oh well.

    Gaming premature ejaculation. Honestly compare the assault on Haven to any of the games later set pieces and it falls flat. Even the assault on Adamant doesnt measure up, journey throught the fade included. And dont get me started on the ending. Awful.
    They should have ended on a siege of Skyhold and you breaking the siege and charging out to face the final boss. They could have brought this epic theme back again.
    Inquisition will always stand out for me like Mass Effect 2, where the music was far better than the frankly mediocre game deserved.
