  • Robert Horry, also known as Big Shot Bob, is the only man (outside of the 60's Celtics) with seven rings... but is he clutch or was he just lucky?

    Robert Horry is not overrated. He knew his role, and played it very well. Teams recruited him because he was the missing link to their goal. Fake controversy.

    He's the first ever player to have 100 steals, 100 blocks, and 100 threes in a single season. Where did people get the notion that he was "only" a shooter? His role simply decreased after he left the Rockets, but he was still very capable of doing those things with the Lakers and Spurs.
    Only Shawn Marion, Rasheed Wallace, Kevin Durant, and Draymond Green has done that after Horry
    If you're the first to accomplish anything ever in the NBA, you're a pretty good player.

    I couldnt care less if he was a superstar or just a roleplayer. NBA Players in General tend to have big Ego`s since they were stars in highschool and college too. For me, being a roleplayer, showing that you can do something on more limited touches and while putting your ego behind, is a great thing. -> Not being the system but making it work. You said that he was lucky that he ended up in good teams (lakers, Spurs). Sure It`s true but that`s just one side, Afterall those Teams WANTED him, because he is the kind of roleplayer who can elevate you on the next level. Great memories of Robert Horry contributing to Houston's first ever Championship in 1994 beating New York. The 1995 finals against Orlando. Mario Elie, Kenny Smith and Sam Cassell made clutch shots to secure the 94 and 95 championships. Thanks for posting!!

  • @everettjohnson1389
    @everettjohnson1389 Před 6 lety +11

    Statistically speaking this man is insanely clutch, and after watching that game 5 he was on fire in the second half and pretty much put the spurs on his back to go up 3-2 in the series. If he missed any one of these shots that were so clutch it could be argued that he would have less than 7 rings. However we was very lucky to be on these teams at the right time but that does not excuse how he has seven rings. It was up to him to hit those shots and if it wasn't him it could have been someone far less clutch. Robert Horry's 7 rings does not make him better than MJ at all but it doesn't mean he isn't great, the man must have been doing something right if he went to 7 NBA finals and won all 7. Tremendous player

  • @PaperweightBoxing
    @PaperweightBoxing Před 5 lety

    To contextualize his career, Robert Horry was never really called overrated or any label that would allude to the sort of thing. But Horry was an anomaly.
    He only played for three teams in his career and it wasn't like other teams came to throw serious money at his feet. His skillset was multifaceted-really a jack of all trades despite being known for his clutch shooting. In some ways he fit the mold of today's rangy, "small forwards." For his time, Horry was agile for a 6'10" PF, moved well, smooth stroke and had excellent hands on defense. But he still didn't do any one thing greater than anybody else but he did have an IQ for the game that was higher than most.
    I can tell you with the Spurs, he disappeared for long stretches during the regular season. And it added to his charm. The ability to seemingly be unproductive for weeks and come up huge. Before the playoffs, his highlights would include some nice passes, game-sealing rebounds or steals. On defense, he wasn't the typical big forward. He'd guard the opposing team's post-player, sure, but only if they were the team's third or fourth option. Again, that's the beauty of Horry's game, he wasn't guarding any stars but he was making life hell for his role-playing counterparts. Not exactly the bruising post defender, but active hands and later in his career putting muscle on to at least not get bullied.
    His shooting, anecdotally, always felt spotty (though his BBall reference certainly demonstrates a slightly better clip than I remember). Still, the post-season is when he came alive. In fact, it's when Popovich would give him an uptick in minutes and he did well enough to stay in the rotation. His regular season minutes were wildly inconsistent. Almost like Popovich didn't know what to do with him, he couldn't guard every quicker forward, but he did patrol the arc occasionally and was never really the "backup power forward" but did play there. If the game ever leaned toward today's more free flowing play, then Horry was in causing havoc.
    All told, Horry was a winner. Just an average shooter, but a very clutch one. And like most players he did break out from time to time. That second half against the Pistons in the 2005 Finals was something to behold. He took over.

    Barkley all day.
    A 6'4" power forward with the ball handling skills of a guard that could jump through the roof, block shots, get every single rebound, steal the ball at will, and dunk on everybody, Sir Charles was a monster. With the insane natural abilities he was gifted with, If he could've taken better care of his body and not had such a terrible supporting cast in Philadelphia he would've had a couple of rings no question, should've had a few more MVP's, and undoubtedly been in the top 10 of goats. He's ridiculously underrated and should be much higher on the all time list of greats anyways, and that's a crime in and of itself that he isn't.
    No one man could guard him. Double teams couldn't stop this man. His pump fakes could make anyone jump and this man's post skills are second only to the Dream. The only things that could stop Barkley were his off the court antics that landed him in trouble a few times, bad teams like his entire time he was in Philly (cheapskate front office b.s.) multiple injuries due to wear and tear suffered over an entire career from beating and banging as an undersized guy in the post during the toughest era of basket ball history competing against the greatest to ever play the game night in and night out.
    The original beast mode, the unstoppable one, the Round Mound of Rebound.
    Who was Robert Horry again?

    I enjoyed having Robert on my Rockets team. Great role player who knew his role on the team. And to answer the question at the end, Yes I would take Robert’s career over Barkley. Its unfortunate the team traded Robert & other players for Charles. But it worked out fine for Robert 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆

    You can get the Opportunities-
    You still gotta MAKE the shots...
    AND
    HE DID.
    I was bartending in Houston when they drafted him.
    I watched the Rockets win those back to backs.
    I even went as far to trash talk and say:
    "When his career is over, he will be one of the greatest forwards to play the game."
    Interesting that his career played out the way it did...I feel I called it.
    We used to yell "What About BOB!" when he'd hit HUGE 3's to propel the Rockets...
    The only Non-Celtic with 7 titles...
    Yeah...
    Being lucky is great
    Being great when you're lucky?
    That's even better.
    GREAT VIDEO
