  • In this tutorial i cover how to utilize the LFO menu on the Novation Peak into tricking itself into thinking its an envelope! Bit of a hack if you'd want to call it that, haha.

Anyone else have a Peak? Let's see those videos! post them below.

I know this is a very old video but I've just linked this in one of the facebook PEAK group and I also wanted to make a service back to the community here
Basically a lot of user are not happy with Peak attack, being too fast (actually it is quite fast! I hope Novation will release a fix/changer over firmware :D ).
A lot of the suggestion on how to change the Attack time, it is through recursive modulation (mod env modulating amp env attack), which is changing the curve of the attack but not the overall time.
Another trick to change the "Attack" is to apply what Ricky is showing here to VCA
    1) take an LFO (1 or 2) and select sawtooth
    2) go into the LFO menu, set the starting at 0 so that you know you are always triggering it from the beginning. set repeat on and select 1 and select retrigger (as Ricky is showing in the video)
    3) go in the mod matrix, assign the LFO to VCA Level and set the Modulation full negative (as you want the opposite of the sawtooth. You want it gradually opening the VCA, not gradually closing it)
    4) set the LFo rate as low as desired. You can even play with Gate in to make the attack slower
    5) combine this with AMP ENV (or reiteration of it)
    Have fun

Very nice tip Enrique. I especially like the double envelope effect you can get when the LFO is set to trigger only once. I'll definitely be using that in the near future. The Peak is a beast!

Yea I've constantly found new ways to do weird stuff on Peak.. maybe i should make more videos on it haha.

@@RickyTinez That would be lovely. I just got a Peak (and a Hydrasynth Deluxe) because I got it into my head I wanna do something with sound design instead of collecting VST synths for patches. But now I have them I have come across this steep learning curve.. Can't find too much vids that help me out (on my level)

This video did help. Thanks! It made this synth seem less vanilla and more like sesame. I'm going to figure out how to get this to chocolate or better yet, coffee.

Hi, thanks, every how to on Peak is very appreciated! So my question is maybe it is basic but how can I do the opposite with envelop when the filter slowly opens like for longer attack pads? Thanks.

yeah, I'd struggle to call that a hack given it's pretty much exactly what those LFO parameters are there for - but good for folks that don't RTFM.

Now I love a good manual to read but kind of surprised that RTFM, in this modern world, hasn't been superseded by WTFV, Watch The Fucking Videos.

    • @MrClarkio

Btw as a peak owner I love this synth, have some plans to maybe do some videos around the mod matrix. The ability to scale modulation and also assign multiple modulators on a single assignment is absolutely awesome. When combined with the animate buttons it allows for a crazy amount of variation.
Fave trick at the mo is to combine an animate button and the mod wheel on a mod assignment to fade in vsync on one or many of the oscillators, makes for some amazing sounds.
BTW if you've not tried them yet have a go at using the fade out and gate in/out settings on LFOs, really good for things like resloving vibrato etc.

  • @sK3LeTvM1
    @sK3LeTvM1 Před 5 lety

Well done, but you offer 1 LFO. On top this was already possible with my Matrix 12 like 25 years ago... :-)
