In an interview she was asked if she was a fan of Bowie and she said most definately and not just because of how good his music is but also because of how brave and creative he was as a human. She said she wept when she learned of his passing.
I think we all did!
Absolutely angelic cover. Huge Bowie fan but she strips it back and the emotion in her singing. Just wow.
this (Aurora) deserves 11 and I know the original song very well. In my opinion you can't say which version is better they are different and she gave her interpretation of the song like it should be and in my opinion she understands what the song means contrary to most people.
10/10 all day long. To give this a 7 was embarrassing there is no way Bowie if he was still with us would of given this a 7.Aurora took this song to a new level and showed the essence of what music is all about the girl is a Genius.â€ïžđâ€ïž
This was nothing short of a masterpiece pure and simple.
Well.... Im not sure George and I are THAT good but .... well.... thank you. Aurora isn't too bad either.
I imagine David listening to Aurora đ§ perform this the first time, leaning forward eagerly, wondering what he's about to hear. As she sings the first notes, he leans back in his chair with a satisfied smile, happy, just HAPPY, she respected his song in the way she did. She truly is an amazing artist, as David was (is).
Aurora đ§ performed this song during her Masterpiece performance at Nidarosdomen. She again mentioned how it wasn't her song but that she imagined it belonged to everyone.
I am sure he would have loved it!!
The iconic elements to LOM are the piano and the way Bowie sings the title lyric. Aurora took those two elements and performed alchemy with them. Simply superb.
Music is in good hands, we oldies can rest at ease with artists like Aurora around, god bless guys and Aurora.
When Aurora performed this song at Howard Stern she said; "This isnt my song, but it may belong to all of us".. so true. Good reaction, thumb up..
That was at Nidarosdomen :-) or both...? It was not in the Howard Stern i watched :-)
At Nidarosdomen she said something like "This is a very very butiful song... but it's not mine... but I wish it was mine... maybe it is everybody's..." :-) (by memory..)
@@RunarNyrud Ok.. I am spending far to much time watcing Auroras videos.. not surprised I cant remember which is which anymore..
Where ever she said it it is a good sentiment as the song is iconic
when i listen Aurora i am just thinking "thank you very much to keep the good music live "
I swear her voice has a direct connection straight to my soul.
I listened this song million times but everytime goosebumps. AURORA is a genius. And is Bowie.
Aurora's rendition is 10-ish plus for me for exactly the reason that, because her pace is soooo measured, we have the space to hear David's original quite clearly long before she gets around to delivering the next phrase... for each and every line. We get to hear both songs in a single performance, and in so doing she completely shatters every expectation that we've ever had about what 'Life on Mars' is as a song and as a message.
This is exquisite and magical âŁ
I always imagine David Bowie gives her 2 thumbs up.đđ
and if he still were around, he'd give her a call........â
Can you imagine if they ever did a duet?
Love this cover. Can not take eyes from her when she performs. Also it is hard to believe she learnt to play piano and sing be herself when was child.
Thx for a reaction.
10/10. Can't be any better. Aurora is a genius.
Astonishing
4 weeks and I'll be seeing her at Brixton Academy with my daughter... and I cannot wait. There is so much to love about her and her music and I'm sure I'll be blown away by her.
Aurora's version of "life on Mars" is an absolute banger and nothing short of a 12!
What a voice.
Agreed
This song was my introduction to Aurora. I was awestruck, replayed it dozens of times and have been a little obsessed with this supremely talented and strangely magical young lady ever since. She makes me feel.
she is most definitely relaxing!!
Still can't watch this without tearing up a bit.
Is it our friendship or just feeling sorry for us?
@@TheThamesmen đ
AURORA was a huge fan of David Bowie herself, In this interview with her, just a few days after Bowie passed away, she spoke about it, admitting that she cried for many hours when she read that Bowie had died: czcams.com/video/NaUijGktggw/video.html (the link starts at the moment she starts speaking about Bowie)
Thanks Fred - I will watch when I have time
I think Mr. Jones would realy appreciate this cover of the song.
This gave me a chills. She is incredible.
She really is unique and something special
Hi,
I am so glad you did this song, I knew you would love her take on it. For me, her genuine love for the song and the artist is very obvious, and is the reason it is so good. There is no way that you can do this without the love for the original and the artist.. of course her voice and musicianship is important, but still..I love this piece. It sounds like a loveletter to Bowie from her.
Going to see her at Birmingham Town Hall UK đŹđ§ later this month can't wait đ đ
Have fun!
What I think is interesting is I agree with what you think Bowie wrote the song to mean - but when she performs it, I feel like it's a social criticism of how we've turned news and social issues into entertainment, deepening the problems they cause in the name of keeping us engaged. Great review fellas. Keep it up.
Be well Liam
This is even better an olympic medal in cross country skiing in which what we usually does best in Norway, thx guys đ
Incredible...Bowie would be proud đ đ„Č
Please next for Aurora. Eyes of a Child live at Niderosdromen (sp?)
Through The Eyes Of A Child:
There is a Nidarosdomen (Nidaros Cathedral) version: youtu . be / ncG9zTzsisE
and an a cappella version with incredible harmonies: youtu . be / CFzExUN1N8I
Both are amazing but the a cappella version is more magical in my opinion.
@@Einyen but the acoustics in the cathedral are so perfect!
@@helenespaulding7562 yes but there are 11 other songs in the cathedral with perfect acoustic, while that a cappella version is unique đ
@@Einyen okâŠ.good point đ
Thank you for the reaction! This will always be one of my top five songs of Auroraâs. Simply beautiful!
No problem đ
Alex, as well as playing LA on 19ty May, Aurora is at The Warfield in San Francisco on 17th May, tickets from ~$30 ...
Could do..... You going?
@@TheThamesmen I'm seeing her, just down the road, in Bristol (UK) on April 5th ... đ
I am surprised that I donât see more requests for her Peace Price concert performance of «Runaway». To me, that is her performance I enjoy the most. Also, while not directly an upbeat song, it shows much more energy than any of her songs you have reacted to so far. If you do react to it, keep a watch of her expression when the music ends, and notice how she seems to come out of her musical trance.
Loved your reaction towards her.
Good live pick, her voice angelic and always. Good to see her playing piano, but sadly she wouldn't really show her gesture in this but her vocals stunning.
Fun little fact: If you look close you might see what looks like half a dozen cockroaches on her electric piano.
That's because there's literally half a dozen (dead) cockroaches on her piano lol...
She was interviewed by Howard Stern(where she also performed this cover) a few days later and she mentioned she put them there to make her feel less nervous performing on TV. Adorable huh? She's WAY into bugs...especially moths, but all bugs really.
Also....cool timing with that recent Churchyard upload after being away from her stuff for so long(way too long imo lol..)
Because today is....her birthday! :D
Yuk!!!!!
Aurora > absolutely stunning beautiful voice
Portland Oregon USA đșđž
It really is! Thanks for being here
Another angle on a classic song, took it to another level but the original was a masterpiece scrolled together by cut out clippings as you rightly said, I would love to hear her try bowie's all the madmen would be very interesting.... Great version 8 out of 10 for međ
Thanks again Eddie... Be well
Great reaction guys. As for great covers by Aurora, and because I think that you two Will be doing Leonard Cohen soon, cover of Cohenâs Famous Blue Raincoat in Brazil is sublime. So few people react to it and I think it is right up your alley. love you guys! Thanks
Stick around and who knows!
Thank you for a great reaction to Aurora. Itâs so good. As a bonus if I squint and use my imagination your video provides a nod to an episode of Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) - amazing guys.
Now that was classic TV!
mesmerising!!!!
I know.
Totally agree about hearing the lyrics. I love David bowie but haven't really listened to him much. I heard the life on mars song but didn't really decipher it. when aurora sang it it sort of clicked!
Absolutely gorgeous, the Duke would be so emotional as he always was, lots of antics and probably wind up hugging Aurora with a mischivious tear running down his cheek
This is a beautiful Bowie song ( I grew up with his music) and Aurora makes it hers, she's so fucking good! Great pick great reax have a good one!
An amazing song and this version is fantastic. It would have been interesting to see what he would have thought of it
@@TheThamesmen I can see David huggin the sweet VikigFairyQueen right in front of me yup this smoke is good ha ha ha
This girl...
By the way, she started playing piano at the age of 6. She never had lessons, can't read music signs (is that the right word?). She plays by ear. She found her sister's old piano in the attic, which was broken. She had to hold down the on/off button with one hand and could then play with the other hand. đ
And yes, David Bowie is one of her role models alongside Leonard Cohen.
By the way, she also covered a song by Leonard Cohan, which she played live to celebrate the anniversary of his death. This was a memorial concert where many artists sang his songs.
Aurora sang "Famous Blue Raincoat" by him.
Would be cool if you would also react to it.
czcams.com/video/E-UG5hxgvDE/video.html
Yes. I'd like to see you guys react to Aurora covering Leonard Coben's "Famous Blue Raincoat" too. She sang that with a heavy heart...almost saying goodbye to the man that gave her so much music inspiration.
I will check that when I get time Coyote - Be well
You might what try a different link. That link is to a mix playlist that happens to have the name of song as it's title.
I am afraid... very afraid how I gonna react if I meet her in person at the concerts I am going to... I am 52, and I am afraid I am going to make a fool of myself...
She is so fantastic... I don't think I have ever seen an artist like her... Freddy, but he is so totally different, so it is not possible for me to compare... But I really think we are talking close to his level of ARTIST.... His vocal is one of a kind but....
Well said Runar
Don't be afraid Runar Nyrud... you are in good company... I am 56 and I am going to see Aurora on 28th March in Newcastle... and I have seen many comments from 70-90-year-old people singing her praises... Aurora seems to be Multi-Generational which is a major accomplishment in itself... I think Aurora was sent from the garden of Eden to remind us what being Human is all about...
I agree with George, similar reasons. On an opposite note. She sings a song that I have never even liked and now I listen to it often. Simply wonderful! The song's Leonard Cohen's "Famous Blue Rain Coat". Can't believe I enjoy it so much. You should listen to it at some point! Only other person that sings it so I like it is Eivor.
Interesting! I love Cohen so will check her version
If it goes to 11, I would give a 12.
Her best performance of this to date.
so unique
Her musical skills are amazing. She has great control, great interpretation great presentation. I have only heard Aurora on this reaction channel and for me the only issue for me is the simularity of all the songs you have reacted to they are all presented in the same manner. Same tempo. For me it's as great as the performances are to me they are all presented the same.
Does she ever sing anything up tempo.
She does Rick, thing is that her voice does suit this tempo and fragility. It seems her best stuff is definitely tinged with pain
Rick, sheâs got some more upbeat songs but Aurora đ§ definitely is the queen of emotion and empathy. Check out her songs âCure for meâ, and, âThe Seedâ. She has a new album out (released 1-21-22) which also has some more upbeat songsđ
@@gratefulpitnicker thank you!!
@@rickfairman5640 Absolutely!

Dick Van Dyke sounded more like Garry Grant than an Englishman
Love this. I do prefer the version she does at Nidarosdomen or Howard Stern show though. She is fantastic
I will check these out - Thanks
Agreed. She is more emotional in those versions, probably because she's not having to play the keys at the same time. I do love this for the fact that it's completely solo, though. So all are special in their own way.
Hey, lads! You can't be sitting on the wrong sides like that. I'm getting all cross-eyed!
Ha ha... all you need to do is watch us backwards in a mirror and hay presto
Every day with a reaction to Aurora or Nightwish from you guys is a good day!
Aurora has this magical ability to transform every cover to make it sound like she wrote the song, and in a completely different style than the original. It's really fascinating to watch and hear. I've never seen another artist be able to do that so consistently.
Would love to see you do this one next (or at least at some point). It's another cover, and it sounds so hauntingly beautiful, that I'm sure it must be illegal in some countries:

This one gets a 3x11 score from me :) Aurora is superb!
Amazing!
It's a most unusual score, very seldom seen. Some have heard of them, but most think it's just a myth. Now look at them. That's how good Aurora is :)
Hello Alex and George! I hope you are well this morning. Great reaction. You got any Sabaton coming down the pipe soon? Oh, and, for your next Nightwish listen , may I suggest "Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean." You can shout it out to me if you want đ Thanks. Take care! đ€

@@TheThamesmen here it isâŠ.czcams.com/video/_ZKIfCJZvZo/video.html. WellâŠ..with Tool, you NEVER want to use official videos. Best way to do Tool (and what most other reactors do) is react to studio version. Have lyrics printed out and read them beforehand. Have to agree with the 7. Iâd compare this to Kurt Cobain doing Man Who Sold the World. Kurt co-owns it. Aurora is just leasing this song. Amazingly good performance.
I thought Kurts version was better than Bowies on that

Can you please react to . Robert Palmer song called Know by now
Please
Thanks kevin we will add it to our list and see how we get on
Well I enjoyed that a lot, but not as much as I thought I would. When it first started I thought she had the perfect voice for this and how good a duet with Bowie would have been. But I ended up feeling she held back in all the spots I'd looked forward to her belting, and George, by George I think he has it, summed it up well for me. Unlike some other songs she has covered she didn't make this her own, it's still very much Bowie. But it has made me very keen to hear her do more Bowie.
I guess this is your last episode and you spoke ill of the Mouse, and no one does that! And Dick Van Dyke just received Kennedy Centre Honors last year! Still, if you can manage it, more please!
Maybe Bowies too good, too powerful and unique to take on. A bit like why no one can cover Roxy Music
@@TheThamesmen But then you have Nirvana....

You can`t be serious! Shameful to give it 7 because you hear Bowie. Your bad!
Tried, again.
And? Did you like her or still no?
@@TheThamesmen sadly no, guess Bowie can't be beaten.
Oh great..! One of my favourite songs. Without taking anything away from this rendition, which is excellent: I cannot stand her voice, nails on black board to my ears. Must be something in the timbre I think (same in other performances). Another rendition I do like is Post Modern Jukebox's czcams.com/video/siUEYNORlhM/video.html just check it out.
HA HA..... Oh lord. Sorry to cause pain. I can't stand Morrissey from the Smiths so I get it
This is the biggest mistake you can make when you hear DB version in your head while Aurora covers the song. 7 out of 10? ridiculous, in fact I like Aurora's cover better than the original 10/10 from me
One of my absolute favorite songs! Unfortunately, this version is not a favorite to my ears. Just a matter of personal taste.
I don't know what it is, but this doesn't do it for me (my bad). To much ups and to much downs, unlike the original. Bowie does it for me, Aurora don't.
Just my opinion, sorry, hate me for that. So, a wanger for me. As Geaorge said ...... David Bowie has that song.
No worries.... You can't love everything!!
