Larry Lawton is an American ex-convict, author, paralegal, motivational speaker, and CZcamsr/Social Media Influencer. The podcast "The Real Deal w/Larry Lawton is heard in 86 countries and is a top 1% podcast out of nearly 3 million podcasts worldwide. I’m a 18 year LEO with specialized training in crime prevention, and what Mr. Lawton has down here has gone way beyond my expertise as I never robbed anyone.... Only a robber can explain why he never robbed someone
Yeah, he's a good man. That's what changed, and that's why he'll never really rob someone again. He still enjoys the thrill of it, lots of people do. People who've never even done it play videogames and watch movies to experience the thrill of it secondhand. I don't fault those people, I don't think there's much you can do about it except have a strong will to not be tempted by the allure, and a conscience to realize the damage you've done and how you can give back what you've taken, which is what Larry got when he did time. I think it shows how much he's changed that he loves doing mock robberies to help out store owners for a marginal fee, rather than actually doing it for selfish gain. A weaker person would just reoffend and make no real effort at changing their direction in life or helping their communities.

Plus keeping all that merch in one one place is asking for trouble. Not just from theifs but staff mishaps: mother nature rains etc etc. Put it in storage, locked even if it's on site, it's protected from the elements organized and bettered stored. don't put out a real picture put up a clay print. Kids, or again elements blah blah. It's not ruined, it's a safe.
put samples of merch out signs saying: want a sample? or breakit? no problem. Better to take it up with your tax guys for write offs then have a code brown.
One issue I have with the idea of the Robert and not telling the staff, they could be traumatised same as if they were really being robbed

@@TheGuruStud or you report it to them, and they'll thank you for it (even if they don't have a bounty program) because you told them what caused it and they can fix it, if they try to call the cops they won't have a case because you can just claim it was an accident, especially since you reported it.

Impressive thing is, this was a one man job. To think that one man scoped, analyzed, timed and planned this to be done overnight under 7 minutes and pulled it off without a single firearm is just amazing.
Yeah. Even with a crappy fence, Larry made almost $10,000 in a single night.
I think the most impressive part is not how quick he was but rather how thorough he was. Anyone can pull of a 7 minute robbery if they planned it well but I doubt they could be thorough enough to do all those things without leaving a long trail of evidence .

You don't have to have the most secure store, you just have to not be the least secure

Dude this a tv show , add a little bit more production and expand it to last more than 10 minutes and i know plenty of people that would be sucked into this type of show. Shit its great for youtube but i feel like you could make a boat load off of this.
Thanks, we agree. Back in 2014 we took it to a few places. We have to do that today again.
Expanding this format to 30 minutes across multiple episodes, while still maintaining novelty would be very tricky, especially while focusing on a very particular type of crime.
Reality shows in this vein like American Pickers, Pawn Stars or Storage Wars have built in novelty based on the wide variety of items, then followed by a bidding/haggling competition. I don’t think this show has comparable variety and would not expand as well.
A better, more expandable, and cheaper to produce format might involve Larry interacting with incarcerated or formerly incarcerated people, or possibly even victims of crimes, each with a unique story. Talking through life histories and storytelling. Larry has the charisma and life story to carry a show like that. Then wrapping up each episode with some sort of emotional life makeover process and/or act of contrition, depending on what makes sense on a case by case basis.
An alternative, super cheap idea would be a show looking at security footage of crimes around the world with Larry breaking down the smart moves and mistakes made by the criminals.
These are more sustainable formats over time. Perhaps a mix of the two formats to pad out episode runtimes. Some elements of this existing pilot could be carried over, like the levity of jokes at the weekly poker game, but the pilot’s format overall seems ill suited to an ongoing series.

On the Discovery Channel there used to be a show called It Takes a Thief. Where they would talk to some homeowners, and the homeowners would let them Rob their house on camera; while they watch, and then the thieves would give them a security upgrade. Everything from cameras, safes, better locks on the doors, special film over certain ground floor windows, and alarm systems too. It was a good show and had quality shock value for the people watching their homes being violated and torn apart.

Of course plus now it’s legal because they give him permission to do so. Smart move of his part to be honest. Gets the thrill without doing the crime.
I guess he will always miss that rush that got him into it in the first place, but I don't think he ever wants to go back to prison so this is it.
It does seem fun, but robbery is wrong. It’s not honorable to take what someone else has worked for, and it puts people in danger. That being said, a robbery is not an overtly evil crime in my opinion (unless you hurt or traumatize people). Of course, not all thieves are created equally, many thieves have no compassion and are evil. But the thief on the cross was one of the first people to go to heaven. Even being a thief, he had humility and respect for God. He had a good soul and was able to receive forgiveness from God. We have a fallen nature, so I definitely understand the thrill of a robbery. And being a robber doesn’t automatically make you a monster. But we have to be committed to doing what is right, for God’s sake. Some people absolutely deserve to get robbed, but God never deserves to bare that sin on your behalf. Remember Jesus loves you and has good plans for you, don’t disappoint him.

Wow this could totally be a successful show. Ex-robber Larry Lawton lets the store know in advance that he is going to rob them, but then give them back all of their goods at the end. Then, on an unknown night, he sneaks in, performs the heist, and gives them advice on their security system the following day. It would be cool if there was some kind of police system as well, to show exactly how much time will pass until they get there, if Larry even triggers the alarm. Great stuff!

Back in the day I saw some former criminals on Johnny Carson. I wish I could think of the one mans name.
