- For my first Girls Und Panzer character analysis video, let's take a closer look at Anzu Kadotani, the student council president and one of my favorite characters in the show.
She's really great, and there's a lot more to her than you might expect.

Anzu has the biggest heart it's amazing to see the lengths she will go too to protect the school and all the students

Anzu was originally portrayed as a villain of the story, but quickly showed her true colors by letting everyone take Senshado at their own pace, bond with one another, and not forcing anyone to do something they don't want. While she did do this with Miho, it was for a good cause as Ooarai was everyone's home, and Miho too was going to lose it and be forced to return to the one place she worked so hard to leave. So Anzu had to force Miho into Senshado, but gave her the position of captain after seeing her abilities in commanding others first hand after their first mock training match. And again when showing she cares for others when she went along with the distraction against Pravda to by Miho enough time to create a solid plan to achieve victory. And again when she lead Momo and Yuzu against Kuromorimine's Maus to help everyone else defeat it. Even if it did cost them their tank and the ability to continue along with them in the rest of the match, but Miho made sure their sacrifice wasn't in vain as she scored the last hit on Maho's Tiger and won the match and tournament. And let's not forget her actions in Der Film helping everyone in the tight against the University team and even landing the killing blow on the University team's Karl Gerat that was causing so much trouble for the girls in the Ooarai Alliance, and continuing to help everyone out like in the hedge maze when she supported Miho against the Pershings that were after her. And of course telling Miho she doesn't have to participate in the fight after helping them win the tournament before, showing just how much she cared for Miho and the actions she did to help save not only their school but their home as a whole, Ooarai was more than a school and Miho defended alongside everyone else even if she only recently joined them.
Many times, she's shown to care for people, and many times has she helped out everyone, both through her great intelligence, her devious thinking, and her courageous actions. Anzu truly is a Hero of Ooarai, just like everyone else who fought in both the tournament and against the University team in the last ditch battle in Der Film.
As for her personality, she's an adorable goofball with a heart of gold with an incredible mind to boot, especially her ability to always come up with an ingenious plan or strategy to help every one of her friends. She pretty much played 4d chess around everyone, especially Renta when she finally got the upper hand in Der Film and bullied him into making a written promise over a verbal one like last time. And not to mention getting allies in Ami and Shiho before hand to elevate her position and put more than enough pressure onto Renta to make him concede to her demand. Anzu really had a good heart and noble intent for everything, as shown by keeping the secret of the school closing down from everyone, even Miho when they invited her to dinner, until it became absolutely necessary and when everyone was so willing to give up.
Anzu really cared for everyone, even if she didn't show it upfront. But that flying hug really showed how much she cared for Miho and was grateful for everything she did, not just for Ooarai but for everyone who lives there. Plus it was just so wholesome and heartwarmingly adorable that works cannot describe how much I loved the "Nishizumi-chan!!!" as she ran and leapt into Miho's arms for the flying hug, it was just that precious, wonderful, heartwarming, and adorably wholesome.
Anzu really is a wonderful friend, kind, compassionate, caring, smart, cheerful, goofy, and all around just a great character and more. She certainly can make prime minister of Japan with a mind like that and the ability to make everything work in her favor.
I'd love to say more, but you, like always, said basically everything that needed to be said. Plus, there simply is not enough time to say everything about each of the girls since their all such amazing characters, so I'll just leave this long comment as this. Anzu is just that amazing of a character and she is certainly a great friend to all, not to mention she probably has the highest IQ of all the GuP girls, especially with how she dealt with Renta in Der Film.
I really enjoyed this character analysis of our lovable adorable student president and I hope you can do more in the future. Maybe some of the other side characters from the other Ooarai teams could work, like the other commanders like Erwin or Azusa, or even characters from the other schools like Saunders, St Gloriana, Anzio, Pravda, or Kuromorimine. Miho may be my favorite, but she's kinda an obvious one, so maybe hold off on her and give all of the commanders of the other Ooarai teams a chance in the spotlight.

Never before have I known a character to be incredibly lazy and unwaveringly dedicated as Anzu XD
She'll do next to nothing on screen but offscreen she figuratively and literally keeps this ship sailing. And as mentioned in your previous video on the student council, she breaks the mould of the class President being a corrupt jerk who feels above it all.
One of my favourite scenes of hers' is in Der Film when before the big match, she tells Miho she doesn't have to do it this time. It's such growth from someone who, admittedly with their hands tied, threatened to strongarm Miho into participating, to someone that understands it's not fair to put that responsibility on someone twice. Even at her most desperate, she has a clear moral line she won't cross.
Also, that jump-hug when they won the All-Stars was precious.
Yeah. Her very confident, outgoing personality makes the moments where she's being heartfelt even more wholesome & impactful.

Anzu best gup girl, literally won my heart over in the first minutes of her introduction and still making me smile every time I see her. She's just so adorably awesome.
I keep coming back to this analysis of Anzu and rewatching. Great job! She is one of my favorite characters in anime as well. I think one of the things that gets me, having been put in the position of mid-level managerial or supervisory role for most of my adult life, I like the way Anzu doesn't dump all the stressful details on her crew until she has to. Physically relaxed and snacking constantly, she plays it almost like she's high, except that she is immediately in control whenever she walks into a room and plops down to put her feet up. There's a firmness of being in power, but seemingly lackadaisical about the results. Another reviewer of the series described her as having "big D energy" which is both hilarious and spot on. When I first started watching the GnP series, I kept forgetting her name, and I called her "Colonel Blake," in reference to the head of the M.A.S.H. #4077 unit from both the movie and TV show M*A*S*H. I like comparing her to the 3 different leaders in that M.A.S.H. franchise. #1: The Colonel Blake from the 1970 film only cared about drinking and sleeping with women and really did nothing for his unit, so I compare that aspect to Anzu's presumed laziness. #2: The Colonel Blake from the TV show actually cared about people in his unit, but also dreamed of not being in a position of responsibility and going off fishing all the time, so much so that he was always in his fishing hat with lures on it; he was usually incompetent and ineffectual about solving problems, but he had his assistant Radar O'Reilly by his side with a clip board (i.e., Momo/Yuzu) who really did everything. #3: Finally, when Colonel Blake left the TV show, he was replaced by Colonel Potter, a wiser, competent, and more firm leader who was also a very understanding old man who was gentle and cared for everyone; the best possible father or grandfather figure. So combine some of those traits from each of those leaders into a tiny school girl class president and you get Anzu Kadotani.
Smol, flat, a bit of slacker that gets things done when necessary, a massive tease hiding a heart of gold. The best GuP waifu.
I love how throughout the series, from S1 to Das finale 3, we see more of the student council and their character. Especially Momo and Anzu. I'd hope the writers give more spotlight to Yuzu. (I think that's her name) 😅
While Miho is the tactician mastermind, Anzu is the strategist.
Her "get it in writing" masterstroke is one of my favorite moments in GuP. The first time I saw it, I hollered out loud (to the complete bewilderment of my cat...), "and THIS is why she's student council president!"
"Amost no one has tank experience." Seeing how many tank leaders from other schools know Anzu more than the school itself, it's an easy guess as to which student has experience. As if her talent at gunnery wasn't enough
Which opens up a whole can of worms.... not because of why Anzu hasn't told her friends but why the other leaders haven't talked to Miho about it.
It should become plot relevant in mini movie 5 as it also would involve Momo and the enemy tank commander, whoever tea should be.

Growing up is to accept and to understand that Anzu Kadotani is Girls und Panzer's Best Girl.
Yes! Anzu fans rise up! She is my president and waifu for laifu! I always loved that laid back and seemingly carefree attitude of hers. While Momo is freaking out, Anzu has no fucks to give. Also I find her low key snark to be adorable. I have my soft spots for Darjeeling, Kay, and Katyusha but when it comes to GUP, Anzu will be my one and only!

Every character in GUP are based on historical character. Anzu 2 best friends are based on Harry Truman and Robert Taff.
The more I watch the series, the more I'm hooked on Momo. Especially after the events in Das Film, and then you see where she comes from in Das Finale, you understand so much of her reasoning, strength, loyalty, smarts, and dedication. Her motivations are well written, and a very good study in understated character development.
She is a cute one I guess
