MAURITANIA: Breakdown in the middle of the desert! Terjit Oasis and Chinguetti // EPS. 3

- The rough ride through Mauritania: Breakdown in the middle of the desert, a trip to an ancient town that gets burried by the dunes, and new friends who helped us solve our problems.
We started off in the mauritanian city Nouadhibou, where we learned how to adapt to local customs. After a short stay in Mauritanias capital Nouakchott we started our journey inlands - hundreds of kilometers in the burning heat with 40 degrees celsius plus. When doing a little excursion to the oasis Terjit we got stuck in deep sand - and my travel partner burnt the clutch of his Africa Twin motorcycle. With the help of the whole village we were able to get to a local guesthouse - but the Africa Twin would not start anymore. While looking for a solution I did excursions to the city Atar and the ancient town Chinguetti, which once was one of the most important cities of Islam. How we solved the problem with the motorcycle? Watch the whole episode to find out if we were ever able to leave the oasis of Terjit!

Bit late but awesome really glad Noraly ( Itchy Boots) pointed me in your direction looking forward to catching up 🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏴
Gutan Tag. Thank you for your video series. It’s been a lot of fun to follow along. My wife and I are studying each episode, since we plan to make a similar trip next year if possible.
Just an amazing adventure Lea. It's really nice to see how people help and can be trusted. What's the story with the red outfit? I am starting your adventures from the beginning now and I can see how your channel has evolved. Finished the book, by the way, I wish I could have read it in german but it was translated very well into English.
Thank you for the video. 😘
Hi. Very nice video . About the old Mercedes: in some African countries, they use mostly old Mercedeses because they are robust and can resist the shocks of bad roads. This is for instance also the case in Mali. The specific model is 190D.
I think its a very cool model. Love it!
When I travelled in Morocco in 2004, all the taxis seemed to be 1970s Mercedes.
Great video...very elegantly entertaining...with a womans touch
Getting better in every episode ! Love the narration !
Following, you are doing really well. Good luck
Nice documentary 👍👍
Million subs soon 👍👍
Hi guys WOW hot or what it's a pity that you didn't carry spare clutch plates but the people are awesome very interesting and informative vid thanks for taking us there with you stay safe and healthy all the best from u.k biker Deano 🏍👍
I carry spare clutch plates of course for the Tenere - but my travel partner refused because his mechanic in Germany told him that he can’t ruin the clutch. I guess now he will always listen to me 😂😂😂
Whoal... Congratulations from Brazil
I follow another CZcamsr who travelled to Mauritania on foot and he hated it, felt frightened and worried so it was great seeing a much different side!!
On foot?!
Well, it's not the desert fault! 😅
What a dumb! Lol.
Bravo..!
Cordialement, Fred (auberge des caravanes)
Bonjour Fred! How nice to meet you here! I am still thinking about Mauritania and remembering the nice stay in Terjit - what a peaceful place. Hope to come back there at one point!!!
Just wow
Stunning...
It was one of my favorite countries...
@@Got2Go thank you
Love the videos, very well done, the editing is really good, but the best part of the videos are your eyes, they are mesmerizing and sultry 🙂
Most enjoyable motorcycle travel footage I've seen since Itchy Boots. Good content and you present well but, as others have said, position the camera further from you when doing a piece to camera. Just subbed
Merlex430 yes, unfortunately the angle of the camera is because I filmed for Instagram stories - so all the footage of me talking in the camera is not made in a CZcams format. Will for sure do that when filming in the future - but for now we have to live with the bad angle (and as well not so good quality in some parts... 😒)
We love your videos and I just wanted to add that we appreciate you raising some interesting points ... such as the statement about terrorist attacks ... you also talk about slavery in a later episode. Sure this is a motorcycle journey but it's nice to also learn about the culture and use this platform to raise awareness and that's something Fiona and I really appreciate about your videos - thank you for sharing these details too :-)
I truly admire your courage I would never go anywhere near some of ,no most of the places you have been to. After I bought the 1250 BMW I quickly learned the bike was too heavy for off road a lighter machine would be better. Regards, Canada.
the 1250 gs is perfect for asphalt roads in the alps - but for real adv riding I can highly recommend the Tenere. I feel so comfotable on it, it's as if the bike was made for me. :)
GOOD
hi everyone, nice video, Africa is a wonderful content. what was the failure on the Africa Twin?
I will continue to watch the rest of this beautiful African story
A burnt clutch! ☺️
Cool! Thanks for show us a beautiful Africa :)
Really enjoyed this 👌
nice

Great!!! But I cant believe you missed the ride from Atar to Chinguetti. Best rider ever and the way back through the old north trail is amazing!!
I didnt miss it - I only did it in a car that broke down several times. I always thought about being on a bike - and what a lovely and quick ride it would have been. But then it was as well an adventure like this. ;)
@@Got2Go I did almost the same trip in January 2019 and I loved Atar.. Then I went south to see the desert crocs and finished im Mali. I hope to do it again and try to get to the eye of the deser next time.. Hopefully also on a T7!! Llve all teneres!! Looking foward to watch your next videos. 🤘 Übrigens wir können Deutsch sprechen. Komme aus Mainz! LG Danilo
Welcome to Mauritania
Bist du eine Landsmännin? Lol. The English accent... Lol. Love that you are traveling. Adventure is out there.
Great content Leah! Got to push this channel to 100,000 subscribers! I can see your story telling skills on all these videos.
Maybe we start with 10.000 first - that would already be super cool 😁
Very nice episode. Did you visit tunisia ?
Not this time!
more than motorcycle video this is information, guide and reality check!!! incredible Work! with the culture being so different , specially to the men-woman separation do you feel any uneasy moment?
Fortnine did a review of the Yamaha 700 2 months ago. A very thorough and favorable checkout he offered his BMW for sale at completion . Regards, James
Hi Lea. Thanks for the great and entertaining videos in English. I know there is a lot of information to relate already and I don't mean to be too critical. If possible, more specific info about the bikes would be great to know. For example, details about the repairs to the AT, the cost, availability of parts, etc. Also, perhaps your thoughts about why the T700 made it through the deep sand but the AT didn't, etc.. Was it due to rider ability, tire selection, age of bike, weight, or because $*&% just happens and the clutch just decided to go, etc? A short description about the technique you used to get through the sand would have been nice to hear. Was happy to see the kind people there helping you. Best wishes for you in your journeys.
I will come back to the Africa twin in the next episode (it was not really repaired unfortunately, they just did a quick fix (how? I have no clue, but I guess with changing the tension on the discs somehow... there was a little bit of a language barrier 😅. But for sure no parts available for motorcycles like ours in most of west Africa, even though there are dealers in some countries. But they don’t carry so many big bikes.) so the Africa twin worked to drive again for a bit. Will show you in next episode what happened then (and what happens if you don’t carry the right spare parts 😅). The Tenere made it through because of the 30 kilos less - our sand riding abilities are equally bad 😂 (even though improved a lot after this whole westafrica trip).
I thought about maybe making a video in the future with a big motorcycle comparison of the Tenere, Africa twin, bmw gs, triumph Tiger and all the big adv bikes I ever rode, to have a place for all these infos. To be honest: when traveling I don’t think so much about the technical sides of the motorcycle - only if it breaks down. 😂
@@Got2Go Lea, thanks for responding with such great detail. I asked about this because I felt concerned and was left with some unanswered questions. Watching from the Northeast US and enjoying your content with much appreciation and envy. I am looking forward to the next episode. Danke. Güte Reise!
@@Got2Go Did you not have a old video with stuff that you take on trip around the world? I thought there was a spare clutch. Constantly fighting with the Sand, the clutch will loose if you use it too often wrong. How about less air in tyres and more speed? Also, the less weight in Sand, the better it is.
@@Got2Go I can tell you don't need to waste time on the 1250 BMW I had the same trouble in sand, but to be fair the clutch is still fine 8000 k later. A KLR can be repaired with peanut butter and tape, see youtube video "Fortnine" trying to kill old KLR.
Daymaker love their videos, they are so well done and just great!!!
You are very beautiful and brave women
Thanks for upload this video
Seriously, I am watching u not your content.
it doesn't mean your content is bad or boring but u r so pretty.
love u from brussels
It's the desert of Mauritania ?? very difficult
Hi Lea.. Nice video and soundtrack.. Any details on the artist and songs?
It’s all from epidemic sound 🤗
Just subscribed
Fascinating content, very informative
A different camera style for sure
I assume this adventure has been completed before the covid outbreak
And would be interested in your book and how to purchase if in English
Thanks Lea for sharing your adventure
Yes, the bikes are currently resting in Benin and we back in Europe - so unfortunately not completed. But we will be back at one point when the situation let’s us.
@@Got2Go Hi Lea. In case you have not crossed Cote d'Ivoire, let us know when you resume your trip. The motorbikers community here will be happy to make some segments with you...

Not supriced that the elephant bike got stuck and broke down in Africa :D

What an adventure! It is amazing how helpful people are when you need help. Are you an experienced off-roader? How did the T7 behave in the desert?
i suck at riding sand but i have been riding a lot of offroad - i am not the fastest but very steady. The Tenere was in my opinion much better than the Tiger 800 I had before when it came to sand - but mostly because of being much less weight. :)
amazing adventure - thx - my adventures are limited to california right now :)
Your voice is very nice
Hi!!! LOVEE your video!!! I'm driving there on my own in a month.. Just check if you had any issue with your drone? I'm a bit nervous to take mine. It's my first overland trip to Africa! Thank you! xx
@DriveLikeShana Hey, hope you are doing great. I am from Mauritania, would be glad to help in any way possible 🙂
I appreciate your courage and the way you live your life keep it up 💪.
I want to ask you how did you get to TERJIT OASIS from Nouadhibou? What I know it's not on the way to the Capital, if I'm right areb there a route from Nouadhibou to the east without passing by the capital?
Your follower from Algeria, hope you can plan a trip to our big and beautiful country.
We first went from Nouadhibou to Nouakchott (you only see it pretty quick in the video, I made one tagg because I didnt film much there...) and then went from there to Terjit. :)
There is another route though that goes along the railway through the sand - but we didnt dare to drive that!
@@Got2Go Ahh ok, thank you for confirming, sorry I wrote this message before finishing the video, because this is a question which I didn't have an answer yet, I'm preparing a trip from Algeria to Marco passing by Mauritania and I don't want to go to Nouakchott which I already visited.
Hello, great videos, can you make a video on the gear you carry and wear?
I will make and extra video about that at one point (but maybe a bit from now because the motorcycle at the moment is in Benin and I would like to have it for this video to show everything that is on it). But: I will do a CZcams live with Kinga from on her bike, Eglė from adv to rally, Nora from adventurism on the 8th of July - there we will talk about our bikes and gear! 😁
Got2Go 👍🏻 sounds good
@@Got2Go yes, I've been following them too
Amazing video, only just discovered your series and making my way through them now. Please can you tell me how you got a drone into Morocco? I read that they are banned and its very hard to get permission to bring one in? I want to travel there next year and a drone would help get those scenic shots! Thanks Lea
you are not allowed to bring or fly a drone in morocco. I would nobody advice to bring (or even worse: fly a drone) because it's strictly illegal! (and yes, I took mine with me by chance because I didnt really know - but as soon as I did I always knew what the consequences are - and losing your drone if someone finds it is the best case scenario. So be aware of the risks of taking a drone to morocoo - and dont fly it.
@@Got2Go That is super helpful, thankyou for your detailed reply. Best of luck with your future trips :)
