      Thanks Carlos, after a while I got used to their bite. They have pretty tough mouths so when I feel them bite I lift the rod tip to apply some pressure. If they run a bit then it’s time to reel down on them. They’re pretty good bait stealers lol

    Great video, really nicely put together from a kayak. We started off Kayak fishing in Dana Point, you make it look so easy. Thanks for sharing!

      @GrayLight Fishing Thank you! Video editing can be a pain most times, but the end result is totally worth it👍
      Dana Point can be hit and miss at times. Just like any other location it’s just a matter of spending time on the water, finding out what tends to work, and also eliminating unproductive water.

    If you don’t mind me asking where do you pick up your shrimp when you go out? Also how’d your buddy do on the fly? Great video can’t wait for the next one

      Thanks Kaul! I just buy uncleaned market shrimp, nothing special. Just stay away from cleaned and deveined shrimp.
      I’m not sure who that was fly fish I out of his kayak but he told me that he catches all the usual stuff.

    Glenn, regarding fishing the kelp. I've struggled fishing in there. Is it best to go at a low-low tide so that the kelp is on the surface? Is that when it is 'laying down' ? Does that limit the snags? I spent half of my day today working my hooks out of the kelp. 😊

    • @SouthwestKayakFishing
      @SouthwestKayakFishing  Před 2 lety +1

      The best way to find kelp is when depends on the all the conditions. Not too windy, current not too strong, and the kelp is harder to latch onto at high tide. These all contribute to keeping the kelp below the surface.
      You will find Keo north of the point closer to the beach between 30-50’ of water. It’s still there at high tide you will see the stalks on your fish finder though you will need to peddle in place to stay on top of it.
      The best way to fish it is with a 1/2-3/4 Oz egg sinker, bead, and 1/0 hook. This will avoid getting tangled in the kelp all the time. No Dropper loop or Carolina rig.

      @@SouthwestKayakFishing Thx so much! Ill be out there as soon as I have a day off and conditions are right. I went to 99 Ranch today and bought some fresh shrimp. Boiled half of them for me and cut the rest up for bait.
      Do you think it makes a difference if the shrimp are large and cut into chunks or is it better to have small-whole shrimp? The only head-on whole fresh shrimp they had were large.

      @@TermiteWrangler it doesn’t matter either way but make sure it’s shell on shrimp.

    How can we find kelp beds if it’s our first time?

    • @SouthwestKayakFishing
      @SouthwestKayakFishing  Před 2 lety

      If it’s your 1st time Kayak fishing I recommend you stay in the bay or go to a lake for safety sake until you feel comfortable in the kayak.
      If it’s your first time looking for the kelp I recommend going when the tide is pretty low that way you will see the kelp floating the surface.
