  • I wanted to give my thoughts on Stars In Shadow in conjunction with Chris "SgtShaggy" Massey's review (found at www.explorminate.net)
The focus of the video is on the "scope" of the game and why i think it was a success from that perspective.

So what your saying is an indie developer made a great 4x game that not only delivered on all it's early access promises but got it all to work on release day? Momma always said "If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is". No but seriously, only $18 bucks on steam right now. I'm not the most dedicated 4x gamer but I really feel like giving these guys my money.

Would you recommend this over Remnants? Thank you

would be worth considering, as a multiplayer title. turn based tactics against ai is super boring (if its fair). creating a 4x game which is heavily inspired by games like MoO2 and doing it single player only is kinda joke.

I can count the number of 4x games that worked well in multiplayer for majority of players on one hand...that's been amputated.
Face it, no dev, let alone an indie one, would waste the resources on net codes for a 4X game that barely anyone would bother using.

MoO2, Age of Wonders (2 and shadow magic and 3), M.A.X., Endless Legend, Civilization, Stellaris after 10seconds of thinking.
Every of these games are way more successful then any non multiplayer 4x title i know of.

And every single of them are NOT known for great multiplayer experience; your cited success are all down to the strength of the game's singleplayer. You might get a handful of people using MP but by and large, turn based 4X empire building games are too slow and too much of a time sink for most people.
Even Amplitude hardly mentions MP in their dev diaries for ES 2.
