A lifetime of experience with multiple cats: just like someone learning a language new to them, repeat the same simple words for the same action, short sentence, body language and pointing, keep it simple and short. I have never used 'buttons' (didn't exist) but there is body language. "Show me" and they take me to where the action will be: food (different spots for different type of food), play, outside, etc. Siamese have a wider vocal repertoire and seem to be more sensitive to words. Other cats seem to use more body language: head, tail, posture, etc and react to mine as well. I had a deaf cat and the moment I realised changed our relationship, using hand gestures or fingers to codify concepts and words: here, stop, eat, etc. The first day I realised and started doing it, she was so happy she learned 3 signs immediately and we never looked back. Finally I made sense and I knew why she wasn't following instructions. With a timber house, it was easy to bang in sequence the door, wall or floor to get her attention to come or turn around and look at me. She even learned to bang on the door to be let back in. (super safe rural environment and she never left the garden).

You should have seen this arrogant prick telling me that there is "no way" Billie understands any of these buttons, and when I used the example of Billie understanding the "outside" button she said it's only natural for a cat to follow her owner. In the *_very_* next video after she was asked if she wanted to go outside, the second the button was pressed she raced _ahead_ to the door. Scientifically this is hardly definitive proof, but I hope this clown was rightfully embarrassed
