    I can’t believe that this video started with a battle between an angelic mecha powered entirely by an ad hominem attack versus a giant elephant piloted by Great Value-brand Hitler while Nietzsch screams “GOD IS DEAD” repeatedly in the background, and then proceeded to only get CRAZIER from there.

Therefore, Buddha can't be reborn as that would contradict a pretty big and important part of Buddhism.

    True story: TLDR: This group came to my country when I was a kid, tried to indoctrinate me (and friends) into their group, but fortunately failed. Years later, I came to Japan and was shocked to find out I am studying in the University their leader graduated from xD
    Part 1: When I was about 8-9 years old in India, this group came to my society (in India we call a group of apartment buildings a society), and showed us “Rebirth of Buddha”, and introduced us to Ryuho Okawa (leader of Happy Science group), a supposed reincarnation of Buddha. Being impressionable kids, we loved the movie about a reincarnated buddha shooting beams and stuff from his palms and destroying evil and what-not. After the movie they even dared to tell us that it’s based on real life events about Ryuho Okawa xD Anyway we were handed a bunch of sutras to recite daily in the morning, and admittedly I did for a few days lol. They also gave us some easy-to-follow books about recollections of real people having experienced near-death experiences and witnessing Buddha. I don’t remember the details anymore but the stories were quite captivating to me back then. The group told us they would shortly build a temple and looking for volunteers to help the poor (probably just a cover for their cult stuff), and some kids (myself included) were looking forward to it. Anyhow, their activities were discovered and the group was flagged and sent back to Japan, so I escaped whatever indoctrination into their cult they had planned xD
    Part 2: More than a decade later, I arrived in Japan for my master’s education. I didn’t recall much of this incident and the group’s name, yet somehow I remembered Okawa’s face immediately when I saw a pamphlet of his circulating around while I was cycling in Tokyo. Digging into it, I rediscovered Happy Science and was shocked to find out they had a number of offices all over Tokyo, and were a major presence. More shockingly, Ryuho Okawa is an alumnus of the University that I was studying in 😂 damn interesting turn of events xD
    Part 3: I graduated from Uni and started working recently, and moved into a sharehouse. Was just chilling with some sharemates in the common area, and a guy (as a joke) wanted to introduce me to Japanese religions and handed me a poster of Happy Science group, asking if I was interested. Needless to say he was shocked to learn about my experience, and we had a good laugh about the whole thing lol

Something simple but fun.

      To be honest, most of Fate lore is based on moon logic or falls apart very quickly if you try to think it through. It's dominated by "rule of cool//don't think about it" moments. The author will get super serious with these convoluted explanations for why this is totally 100% coherent with existing lore! But it rarely is. Because it's all based on "rule of cool" with working backyards from there.
      Like how George Washington doesn't count as a heroic spirit, and thus, had to fuse with Edison alongside all the other mythologized presidents like Lincoln and JFK. It would make far more sense for all the future presidents to collapse in on Washington, who was alive in this time period (and seriously should qualify as a servant in his own right), and not Edison... who wasn't born yet.
      Or why Queen Mebd of Irish folkore was invading America with a warped version of Cu Chulainn just after the Revolutionary War ended (as I said, Washington's time) and it fell upon Edison to take command of America's armies to fight off the Celtic menace... with robots... nearly 100 years before Edison was even born. With the power of Hollywood that wouldn't exist for another 150 years. Or how most locations featured in the Singularity didn't exist in Revolutionary times.

    So, I feel somewhat compelled to defend my boy Nietzsche or 'Niches' a bit here from this god awful cult.
    A large reason why I think this cult put Nietzsche in hell and working with the Nazis, besides his 'God is dead' quote, is because in the public mind, he inspired the Nazis and/or that his philosophy led to the rise of the Nazis and/or he would've supported the Nazis. This is wrong in all counts.
    While Nietzsche died long before Hitler's rise, many of his opinions would've put him at odds with the Nazis and in all likelihood, they would've tried to kill him had he been alive at the time.
    Nietzsche friendship with Wagner famously broke down and after Wagner's death, Nietzsche wrote a book (The Case of Wagner) criticizing the man, explicitly calling Wagner out on his anti-Semitism and citing the ideology anti-Semitism as a thing that Nietzsche especially hates and despises. "Since Wagner had returned to Germany, he had condescended step by step to everything that I despise-even anti-Semitism..." In one of his last brief missives to his friend Overbeck he even stated he wished to “shoot all anti-Semites”.
    Nietzsche heavily criticized his sister and her husband, Bernhard Förster, speaking harshly against the "anti-Semitic canaille:"
    "I've seen proof, black on white, that Herr Dr. has not yet severed his connection with the anti-Semitic movement...Since then I've had difficulty coming up with any of the tenderness and protectiveness I've so long felt toward you. The separation between us is thereby decided in really the most absurd way. Have you grasped nothing of the reason why I am in the world?...Now it has gone so far that I have to defend myself hand and foot against people who confuse me with these anti-Semitic; after my own sister, my former sister, and after Widemann more recently have given the impetus to this most dire of all confusions. After I read the name Zarathustra in the anti-Semitic Correspondence my forbearance came to an end. I am now in a position of emergency defense against your spouse's Party. These accursed anti-Semite deformities shall not sully my ideal!
    Even early Nazi supporters such as, Adolf Bartles, had to acknowledge “that Nietzsche is no anti-semite”.
    Besides, their hatred of Jews, the Nazis were famously also anti-Slavic. Here is what Nietzsche said about Slavic people. "The Poles I consider the most gifted and gallant among the Slavic peoples; and the giftedness of the Slavs seems greater to me than that of the Germans."
    The Nazis were also extremely nationalistic and racist, positions which Nietzsche himself heavily criticizes in his works ("We Who are without Fatherlands"): "No, we do not love humanity; but on the other hand we are not nearly "German" enough, in the sense in which the word "German" is constantly being used nowadays, to advocate nationalism and race hatred and to be able to take pleasure in the national scabies of the heart and blood poisoning that now leads the nations of Europe to delimit and barricade themselves against each other as if it were a matter of quarantine."
    So, why is Nietzsche so associated with Nazism and Hitler? Largely, because of the Nazis themselves and Nietzsches' own sister and her husband, both of whom were incredibly anti-Semitic, nationalistic and in the case of Nietzsche's sister, a Nazi supporter.
    They twisted and omitted his words to fit their hateful ideology and paint him a supporter. In one of the drafts to "The Will to Power" which Nietzsche's sister published after his death and heavily twisting his words, Nietzsche wrote: "That is is written in German is untimely, to say the least: I wish I had written it in French so that it might not appear to be a confirmation of the aspirations of the German Reich." Which his sister promptly cut out to publish her 'version' of his supposed works.
    I want to let that sink in for a bit. His sister exploited her infinitely more talented and infinitely more famous dead brother for her own ends and forever tied his good name to a hateful political ideology/movement.
    If anyone is interested in learning more, I recommend Walter Kaufmann's book on Nietzsche or literally any good Nietzsche historian because it's clear (like so many other things), this cult didn't do any research on.

    • @PineappleLiar
      @PineappleLiar Před 2 lety +7

      I figured the cult was just using the boogey man of Naziism to cover for the actual reason they don’t want their followers delving into Nietzschism. The actual reason being that existentialism is about finding value internally, as opposed to traditional forms of faith that focus on at least one external entity. Happy Science’s whole thing is kinda about having one guy you need to put all your trust in, and that is the opposite of what Nietzsche wants.

    Wait, how would a strict census registry even make things more difficult for Theta’s people? The main ‘ports of entry’ are reincarnation and possession - how is a census going to account for that? A check box labeled, “Was your soul originally from the planet Vega?” I’m starting to think these movies’ worldbuilding isn’t very well thought out.

    • @ninjaydes
      @ninjaydes Před 2 lety +48

      US localization and the western playerbase think Happy Happyism references the KKK. Reasons: shape of the cult members' outfits, rural setting, geographic match (Happy Happy Village = deep south Eagleland/NA)
      Happy Happyism could instead be based on Aum Shinrikyo. Reasons: game produced in Japan, color of cult members' outfits, happiness is one of Aum's main teachings, rural setting (Aum's base is on a dairy farm)
      Add Happy Science into the mix, and the fanbase becomes even more confused.

    I appreciate the call for media literacy at the end! I think it’s really important to be able to look at things critically, especially as like you said everything is trying to sell something. Two of the classes that have made the most impact on me are were the Statistics class I took in high school (because it’s so easy to see just how far statistics can be manipulated) and my college class On Television, where for a unit we analyzed news broadcasts to see just how far US news networks being ad supported can affect what news is shown.

    I was in Japan when Rebirth of the Buddha came out, and the story of me trying to watch it is a journey. I was already aware of Happy Science because of one of my professors and because of the Super Friends Hall of Justice-style Happy Science building that I found exploring the town. Me and a few friends were laughing about the movie, and my professor refused to talk about it (but in a coy, cynical kind of way).
    A friend said she was out shopping when someone approached her and gave her tickets to see the movie. She didn't want to see it but knew that me and another friend would get a kick out of it. However, I couldn't find out where the movie was playing, despite constant TV ads promoting it. The friend who had the tickets said she was given the phone number of a woman (may or may not have been the person she got the tickets from) who could tell us where it was playing.
    So the friend I was going to see the movie with comes over and phones the woman. She tells my friend where the movie is playing, but asks if we'd go to her house at some point after watching it to talk about what we thought. We're dying of laughter at this point over how fucked up this whole thing is. We see the movie and it was fucking insane, and we spend the next few weeks laughing about how insane it was and how shoddy the animations seemed. We also went on about whether to phone this woman or not, with me backing out on account of not wanting to get roofied by a cultist.
    My friend doops another friend of ours into going with her to meet this woman, because she needed to see where this was going, and because she definitely didn't want to go alone. They go and see the woman, and relay back to us even more hilarious insanity, though they weren't drugged or lobotomized or anything.
    To this day, knowing just how wacked out this movie was, my favourite scene is still when Jesus Buddha Okawa sword fights UFO-piloting Darth Vade on elephant-back. The movie's climax and denouement are amazingly bad and yet so wonderfully entertaining.
