I agree about the ground-wire: when I replaced the wiring and lights on my boat-trailer I grounded everything to the chassis plus ran a separate ground-wire from the plug to each lamp. I also ran separate feed to each lamp so that if one set of wires had a fault I could jump to the other lamps to get home without a ticket.

You definitely got the ground covered. Many don't understand how bad DC Voltage causes corrosion.
