Boutta get a bunch of hate for this one but your measurements don't seem to line up with most other people's experiences or even the sound in the car(closer to 70-80 db going 70mph+). And from personal experience I'm not sure if it's all the glass or reverberation but I get closer to 75 db's which for a 40k car is way too high
Yeah, you should get the highway speed for sound deadening level too. For the normal city driving, 50 mph or 55 mph is not much annoying. Highway driving usually a long driving of time which will let passengers have such an impact for high level of sound level.
Besides testing when driving, maybe you guys can do an in-cabin noise test when parked. Perhaps an outside horn test to see how the sound was insulated.
You said this car is a little louder than the Kia but by listening to this video I can not tell! If I would be riding in that back seat and not have gotten any sleep I would be out like a light!
To those who are complaining about the cabin noise in your Tesla, have you tried replacing the sound filter? The user manual recommend replacing the sound filter every 10,000 miles.
Regardless of the measurements, I’ll tell you my 2019 model 3 LR AWD with stock 18 inch aero wheels is noticeably louder than my 2021 Tacoma TRD off-road on every surface!! How does that make sense? A “luxury car” annoyingly louder than my Offroad pickup truck. It’s not just a engine noise thing, the tires just roar in the model 3. I test drove a model y and it was definitely better but still some room for improvement.
Yep, i think the default tesla tires is already quiter compared by any other tires, but their chasis and suspension is transfering all the road noise and wind noise to the cabin. So its even noisier compared to camry at 50mph @54db. You can use weather seal to the door so it will make the tesla noticeably quiter from wind noise but not road noise
@@officialyasir maybe its just 3-5 dB lower. So it wont be noticeable. I think model3 noise, vibration and harshness is higher compared to car like camry, accord or sonata hybrid. The reason your truck is quiter is their tires is so far away from the cabin, and the chasis is bigger to absorb vibration. Nowadays, the latest luxury truck is even quiter compared to luxury sedan. I've seen a lot of noise comparison on youtube. If you wanna get the quietest car, go get merc EQC, its dead silent inside
@@pepehands3399 I test drive a model Y in August and it was noticeably quieter and I have heard the same from people who have upgraded their model 3 to 2021 model. At least Tesla recognized the issue and made improvements.
Probably tesla doesn't have any sound dampening material in the vehicle to save on money and weight. And the tires/weight of the vehicle add to it. I have seen some newer EV tires with foam in them to help quiet the road noise.
Tesla is adding rear first, then front, one piece mega castings that are made from poured and cast aluminum alloys, instead of welding or gluing several small pieces of metal together.
How does the model 3 you all drive compare to the model Y you all reviewed the other day? Do you all prefer the one you drive to the other one? Just curious because I don't know anything about Tesla cars, haha. 🤜🤛✌
It doesn't add up to my own driving experience with a Model 3. I consistently register 70 db while driving on the highway. I think tires and road conditions have a big effect on the sound level. What kind of tires do you use?
Just had Tesla model 3 and y demo drive in Texas. They are significantly louder than Infiniti qx60. I would like you to test with Infiniti or Toyota cars which are not the louder.
I have been in different Teslas on a freeway, the noise inside the cabin is much louder than a regular gas powered engine cars, you can hear creaks, squeaks and vibrations at higher speed which is very annoying considering it has no engine..
I drive a 2019 M3. I think it is a loud car, especially around 75 mph and above. It could be that engine noise of regular cars filters some of the other noises, but still. Also I think the noise is worse near the windows. In the middle it is less bad. I literally always toggle my window switches subconsciously, something I never did in my Peugeot 208. It tells me everything I need to know, it is loud to the point I always notice it. Still like the car though, but road noise and some climate control issues sometimes bug me.
I’ve been driving Audis for a while now. First an A4 coupe that my ex had, then I owned an A5 Cabriolet, then I switched to my current A3 Cabriolet as well (2018). I recently rode as a passenger in a Kia, and I was so surprised at how incredibly LOUD it was at normal speeds above 35m/h...! Also, the stiff suspension was horrible! It was torture to feel every bump on the streets... In my experience a lot of noise is related to the tires themselves. Different tires make different noises and levels of noise. But again, the noise when comparing an Audi to a Kia was incredible. It was hard to talk inside the vehicle! I’ve never experienced a Tesla, so I can’t say. But if it’s as loud as a Kia... 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
@@michaelragusa3520 It was not very used at all. Probably tops a two year old car. But yes, I believe it’s one of the cheapest ones. It’s “boxy/square” and smallish. Not sure about the model name. But boy, that suspension was HARD, and that car was NOISY...! It made me really appreciate my Audi even more!
Well I've driven the M3, the Cupra born and the Renault Megane. No way the M3 is nearly as well isolated! My advice: test ride European cars, expeacially German cars. They know how to isolate cabins. My Renault Zoe is better isolated than the M3, BTW. I love Tesla, but isolation? Not their strong suit.
Have no doubt that as Tesla continues it’s technological advances it will focus more on dampening noise intrusion as well, and with classic Tesla ingenuity. C’Mon, if Elon can land a spent rocket on a barge in the middle of an ocean somewhere - getting those interior decibels down to zip is no problemo!! Congrats on 205k already!
What a cheaply made car. Can't believe people flocked like sheep to this brand. I've risen in a dozen models. High end to low end. I also detail cars on the side and have detailed many teslas. All the materials inside are cheap and poorly made. Everything rattles. They have "vegan" fake leather. Can't even use leather cleaner on them or they deteriorate. You have to clean them with soap and water. Then driving them is a whole other adventure. On the freeway you can't even hear the passenger next to you. I have never been in a louder car.
Good job it is so amazing driving thank you Drew and Mason.
Awesome video y’all! This was interesting! 😸

ABSOLUTELY the LOUDEST car I have ever had. Then, add in the rattles. They put a great stereo in this thing for a reason!

Thanks. Good stuff.
What brand/model sound meter do you use? Thanks in advance for answering.
For half the video was wondering why my headphones were making popping noise. Turns out that was the beat.
Oh, haha
I thought the portable device was a key while this test seems beneficial even to seek the potential of a mobile workplace.
The annoying thing for me is how much it rattles and makes noises on every put hole or little bit of bumps like a 20 years old car.
What year do you have?
I've had the car for 2 weeks. Extremely disappointed. Not a $60,000 car.
Tesla is not a luxury car brand. It is just an early production ev brand. If you want luxury ev then Germans have it.
Can you guys try to retest this in the 2021 Model 3 and compare?

62dB at 75mph is great. In my 03 Honda Accord v6, I'm at 75dB at 75mph. Idle 45dB. Under 50mph is 45 - 50dB. 65mph is 68ish dB in the honda.
keep in mind different sound meters will be calibrated differently. one may show 75db, another might show 60db
What tires on the Tesla and was the climate control on during testing?

You should've done a acceleration noise test

I think you should go over a rougher road. you chose the smoothest road possible. Bumps and stuff are going to sound alot different than a smooth road

Yes it will

plenty of silent engine in cars that price, so its not a powerplant masking
honestly, my v6 at 2000rpm to 2500 rpm, it's almost noiseless.
