Good reaction. 'Gimme Chocolate' was the video that went viral and got them noticed internationally - mainly for the 'WTF' factor when Yui and Moa (the two younger girls) started their "atatatatatata dukyun". So it has most views of all their songs, it is far from being the best liked (a few people will disagree as it is their favourite).
They were 14, the show the video was recorded at was the day after Su the lead singer's 16th birthday. It probably didn't help you to like their voices any more that it had the studio audio dubbed over the live performance video because they always over-process and compress their voices in the studio recordings, but yes they were a lot younger - that was from December 2013, 7 years ago.
Personally I try to steer people away from Gimme Chocolate until they have heard 4 or 5 other songs and got a better idea what BABYMETAL are about - it is a great live song (all the live versions of Gimme Chocolate sound better than the official video - just my opinion of course) and always goes down well at their shows, but that video can go either way if it is the first thing people see. Some people love it and immediately delve into more, some people just can't get past the vocals and hate it. They dismiss BABYMETAL as a gimmick and look no further. A minority are just very confused but are intrigued enough to explore further.
'Brand New Day' ... yeah, not so much metal in this one. It is a collaboration with the guitarists from Polyphia - I am not familiar with them myself, I understand they are more prog rock than metal(?), but someone far better informed than me (which is probably everybody) will be able to shed more light on that.
This is off the third album and that is almost a concept album. It has two very distinct sides or halves (which is more obvious on the Japanese edition as that came on two separate CDs). The first half is the light or sun side and it concentrates on more electronica, pop and exploring musical styles from around the world. 'Brand New Day', as you may suspect, is very much on that side of the album.
The second half is the dark or moon side and that goes back towards the more metal end of the BABYMETAL scale.
This video is from one of the big shows at the start of this year where they played all the songs from the new album (plus a few older favourites) over the course of two nights, so Su was 22 (she will be 23 later this month) and Moa was 20 (she is now 21), so yes their voices have matured - but the audio was also live, so they hadn't suffered the over-processing of the studio recordings that I mentioned earlier.

Great Reaction, I and most appreciate true reactions and reactors never should apologize for being real. Not that you have done that, but don't have to explain it to me, I get it as most do. Babymetal is a love, hate or guilty pleasure.
I personally just don't like the fact that most negative reactions come from heavy metal guys that are exposed right off the bat to Gimme Chocolate. It's a shock video. That entices confusion and harsh swings of emotions either way good or bad. You see it in just about every first reaction to the group; The music starts they are banging their heads going OMG this is Hard as hell, then Yui and Moa come in and, well, the WTF factor comes up on every face right.. We all enjoy seeing that WTF moment as we watch someone for the first time seeing and hearing that moment. Harsh reality of that song is that it turns off a lot of Heavy metal guys right off the bat and they no longer hear the music or take the band in as a whole, because they can't get past the younger girl voices in that one moment. Now just about every song after that is tainted with preconceptions of what they are going to hear or they don't even make the attempt to listen to any more songs. Babymetal has forever been put into Their "not heavy metal" box in their minds.
I think going back and looking at the history of the girls and how and when this group was formed is key to understanding the angst from western metal lovers who disapprove of how this band was formed and will forever not like Babymetal, because it doesn't fit their idea of how "real" metal bands are formed. They were always advertised at "Kawaii" metal or CUTE METAL. Nothing more. But we always love our labels and boxes, so we stuck our own labels and put them in our own little box of what we thought they "should" be because they are different.
In America, we are brought up with the ground up, home grown, started in a garage, metal bands that make it big and shaped our music brains for many years. BUT, Japan is a different country, different culture, different take on music. The Idol culture in Japan is something most in America especially the heavy metal scene and myself haven't been exposed too for very long. I only learned about it because I accidentally came across one of Babymetal's songs. I'm still learning alot about that scene, but I feel we can't just put Babymetal into a box and say its Heavy metal or its not, like most of us would like too. We do like our boxes don't we guys.
Babymetal was formed as a "club" in an Idol school. They were an experiment that caught fire. They had no budget, no real support and they didn't even know metal music at all. They were instructed what to do and what to sing and its very evident that this band was Produced from a production company and not "home grown" from a love of metal to make metal music. It's very clear to everyone. This is their culture, these idol groups are produced and used to make money for a production company. It's just how they do it over there.
So, who cares if they don't fit our western idea of how "metal" bands should form and grow and get popular. If you like their music who cares. Most of their early songs hit on so many cultural and social issues about women, girls and young life, so they and especially the writers should be commended for their work. They have progressed in their music to the Metal Galaxy Album that just won Album of the year and there are several songs that are from several different cultures and they perform them expertly and professionally.
Most old folks would remember the backlash when Metallica put out the black album right. They hired a producer and the album was produced to hit a bigger audience. HUGE uproar sellouts, Metallica sucks right. Get real. Metal heads got over it in time. The real indication for me that Babymetal is real metal is the acceptance of the OTHER Heavy Metal bands and they LOVE THEM. From Metallica learning the dance moves to Gimme Chocolate, to Dragon force colabing with them on The Road of Resistance, to Rob Halford singing with them at the awards show. There is a mutual respect for their hard work, dedication and the show's they put on in the face of extreme prejudice, but the cream always rises to the top and the music wins out. ALWAYS. Eventually even the most avid hardcore metal head finally gets past the pop stereotype and finally hears and sees the group as a whole as I have.
As a reaction guy, its hard to focus on one group, you have to give the fans what they want. Takes a real man to give Babymetal a second chance, I applaud you Sir! Please keep making more videos of Babymetal. The Babymetal fan's usually aren't very harsh and I'm sorry that some have stepped over that line. I'm glad you pointed them out.
I would advise when you do more reactions to put up an overlay over the video, most of those watching the reaction have probably seen the video 100 times already ROFL, so if we can see a little bit of the video and see your reaction at various spots that works for us. Another thing not to like about Babymetal is Amuse's hardcore blocking reactors from posting their music. Trust me I think we all agree with you on that one.

Since I agree with pretty much everything you said, I would just like to add: obviously not "home grown", but produced totally "from a love of metal to make metal music."
And they had more input than people think, right from the beginning, they weren't entirely "instructed what to do and what to sing" but were participating in brainstorming sessions, throwing ideas and opinions

I witnessed this at Makuhari Day 1 on Jan. 25 this year. (So 7 years later than Gimme Chocolate.) That was stunning. Normally BABYMETAL fans want to see the girls' clear movement on stage and, of course, their cute facial expressions. But in this song we could see their silhouettes only .... and that was enough. Kami Band's paly was full of dignity, figures of Moa & Riho were elegant and, more importantly, Su's voice was exquisite. I felt like standing in front of a beautiful painting which absorbs my attention. I am proud of being a witness of this world premiere of this song.

Hey again ! I'm sad I didn't get to see the blocked video !
I just wanted to address the musicians not getting enough recognition. It's a difficult topic to talk about with a neophyte because inside the community we're advocating for them to go back to having more of the spotlight because in the recent tour they've been a bit further in the back than they used to be (from 2013 to 2018). But they do get recognition, they do have their moment to shine on stage but one thing needs to be made clear : they are not official members of the band. The face of the band, the actual members are only Su & Moa (and Yui before she left). The musicians are there to support the girls and tour with them. They are however friends of the girls and recurring faces. There is definetly a bond that was created.
But what you also need to remember is that without BABYMETAL, without the girls, these musicians would not get as much recognition as they've actually got (and we are aware that this goes both ways). Being and touring with BABYMETAL has been highly benefitial to their careers. So for me it's hard to criticize BABYMETAL too much for this since without that band they'd literally have 10 times less social media followers and certainly way less opportunities to show their talent to a wide audience.
To this day, these musicians, talented as they are, have never played concerts in front of bigger crowds and on the biggest stages until they've decided to accept touring with BABYMETAL. So I would not pity them too much on that front. I understand your stance, but when you'll have dove down a bit deeper down the hole, you'll come accross live performances where you can clearly see that the musicians have their time to shine and enjoy the shit out of every minute. I'd recommend watching their Rondo of Nightmare Live at Budokan to see that.
They had the chance to play on big American TV shows, to play alongside big music icons and play on the world's biggest stages. I seriously think you should consider that angle aswell. I'm a big fan of the musicians, I know their other works and projects and follow them on social media. They regularly tweet about BM and exchange tweets about good old days or how good this or that concert was. They're not miserable. We do love them and they do love touring with BM. Be sure of that ;).
Liked and subscribed. Wish you the best for your channel and hope that we can continue forward positively !

Like for example, this song is from their latest album and is arguably the least "metal" song off the record. But to be fair aswell, that song is a collab with Polyphia which are not a metal band at all. So that's why the song you've picked for this reaction doesn't strike you as metal and would raise questions hah.
Also yeah that's a fan compilation of videos and on that particular instance/concert is one of the criticism many have within the fanbase that the band is a bit too much in the back. That concert was a huge one as it was the celebration in Japan of their latest album in January 2020. I've seen them 1 month later in Belgium in a 2.5k capacity venue and the vibe is obviously completely different :).

This is a great video because it showcases the talent of their whole band, each one of them gets their own solo in the beginning. And the song itself is a good example of how Babymetal likes to play with very different genres sometimes in the same song. It swings wildly from really heavy to a very catchy and poppy chorus. It also has subtitles so knowing the song is about playing "Hide and Seek" with an Oni (a Japanese Ogre) will help make the choreography make more sense.

I mean, they're manufactured. I don't personally care. I think they pull it off really well. I don't know why it really matters. I understand liking a band because they're talented and wrote their own songs, but, is it really that big of a deal? Someone wrote it. Same with opera. The performers didn't write anything, but they bring it to life. Same thing with movies. What I don't like is when manufactured bands pretend to be real. At least babymetal straight out admits they didn't write anything. I still love the girls personalities. Their dancing is really good. Backup band is great. Just a great product in the end. Great entertainment and awesome songs.

Because I find the distinction ultimately meaningless. Somebody put the band together, but some people seem to care a great deal on whether the band members (or a particular member) put themselves together or if it was a non-performing person/group that did. As for who wrote the song, I prefer some bands' covers to the originals. Hell, I even like bands that don't build their own instruments. I appreciate your willingness to listen and give Babymetal another chance. This is probably the least metal song on their third album, Metal Galaxy (2019). The featured artists Tim Henson and Scott LePage of Polyphia are prog rock guitarists and wrote and performed the guitar parts for the studio version of this song. It has only been performed live once so far. The video you watched is a compilation of the live audio, live proshot video, and fancams from that concert.
The band is celebrating their 10th anniversary this year and the lead singer, Su-Metal (Suzuka Nakamoto), will be turning 23 on December 20th. So, yes, as you realized, their voices have matured a lot since Gimme Chocolate, which was recorded in seven years ago in 2013. This is especially the case with the two supporting vocalists (one of whom left the band a couple of years ago) who are about a year-and-a-half younger than Su.
If you want to see the musicians showcased, I recommend watching "Rondo of Nightmare" with the Mischiefs of the Metal Gods instrumental intro from Budokan (2014). I would classify this song as progressive doom metal. While Su was 16 for this performance, she's not pitching her voice up in a kawaii (cute) style, and it's one of her solos performed while the other girls are backstage taking a breather. czcams.com/video/8WBDiLMNZcE/video.html

I'm still new to the fandom of Babymetal, so my view of this song might probably be wrong. But this is from their third album, Metal Galaxy, that's theme is about the Babymetal traveling through the galaxy (world) to search for all forms of Metal. There's songs like Shanti Shanti Shanti that has an Indian vibe, Night Night Burn had a Latin element, Oh Majinai that feels very folk dancing, etc but with a metal touch. And for Brand New Day, to me, had a New York morning vibe. Like, even though other songs of the album experimented with other culture music, this one game more of a city vibe, maybe Tokyo, maybe New York, maybe California.
It's also a live show, so the long intro to the song was purely showcase reasons, not from the actual track. Songs like Headbanger, Akatsuki, and Starlight all can have prolonged intro's depending on the show.
I don't want to go into a deep dive, again based on my knowledge, but I respect your decision to give the band a second chance. Even if your initial reason for dismissing them is normal. After all, there is a song in their first album, based on their experience in their first ever metal concert, Headbanger. They weren't in love with the music when they started, the band was originally formed in a TV school for girls wanting to become idols, after all. But when seeing how they started originally and adapted to the style, grew with it and into it, even if they were still young, it's pretty incredible. The amount of constant practice and rehearsing they do to perfect the dancing and choreography to be able to be 100% during a whole show, night after night. Su, the lead singer, would practice singing as she ran and moved around the sound booth to be able to control her vocals when on stage with all the movements. The Kami Band joined when they became more than heavy electro music with fake skeleton musicians in the background, and is just as much Babymetal as the girls are, they are the metal of it. When you look at interviews with them now, they have a vast knowledge of metal bands, having toured with many through the years now. And many songs and performances would pay tribute to past famous musicians, bands, albums, concerts, etc. And being a JPop idol is very different than, say, being in a popular band in the US. (from what a co-worker said to me after reading about it) They've got restrictions of what to say, strict guidlines to follow. Hell, I remember seeing an interview in the band's early days when they pretended that they didn't even remember the shows that they performed the other night, claiming that they were controlled by the Metal Goddess (or Fox God). That's all I got for right now, lol.
You'd probably really dig their song from the third album: Distortion.

This song is an homage to both Japanese pop songs called "city pop" in late 1970's - 1980's and contemporary prog metal like Polyphia (their guitarists are playing solo in the studio version), Animal as Leaders or Chon. This might be the most unusual song of theirs. BABYMETAL's songs are wide/wild fusion of Jpop and any kinds of music called "metal" -- melodic speed metal (Road of Resistance, Arkadia, Ijime Dame Zettai), industrial metal (Gimme Chocolate, Awadama Fever), NuMetal (BxMxCx, Onedari Daisakusen), Metalcore (Karate), deathrash (Babymetal Death)...

some more FYI. when Babymetal was thought about it by Kobametal, money was not even thought. Su, the lead singer is the reason for Babymetal. even young she had strong presence and vocals. Amuse, the agency, did not give them any budget at the beginning. the first video they did had borrowed clothes and accessories. nobody at that time did Amuse think this would last. and that was in 2010. Gimmie Chocolate is being played live at almost all their shows and it is so much better live now than in that video you probably watched. but thank you for looking into Babymetal some more. yes first we want an honest reaction good or bad. many have gone thru this before. when you really watch and listen to everything you will see Babymetal is on another level than most bands. the production now that goes into their live shows are wild. to me your next reaction should be Karate Download UK 2016 or Ijame Dame Zati Sonisphere 2014. these two videos will give you better about the live with the band. and you will find out Babymetal songs are alll different and none sound alike. i guarantee you will find one you will love.

This is not one of their metal songs. This is a more pop leaning song as is Gimme chocolate. They will always have both Metal and JPop elements but some songs lean heavily one way or the other. You need to listen to people’s recommendations for the more metal stuff otherwise it is like wandering around with a blindfold on. My recommendations would be Road of Resistance (power metal collab with dragonforce), Rondo of Nightmare with Mischief of Gods intro (amazing band solos and the darkest lyrics of any babymetal song), Starlight (djent ballad tribute to their late guitarist Mikio), Babymetal Death Legend 1997 (Metallica tribute and amazing showpiece), Tales of the Destinies (Progressive Metal), Sis Anger (A black babymetal song which means it is just Yui and Moa without the lead singer Su but it has some of the heaviest music), Megitsune (Japanese Folk Metal with my favorite breakdown of any Babymetal song) and BxMxC (rap metal fusion and the most recent international release, this song is crazy live). In general babymetal songs also sound way heavier live because the mixing on their records is sort of crappy so be aware of that. Also, about the lower voices, you are right, puberty happened. You have to remember that they started this band at middle school age and are now in their 20’s. Also, about the fans, remember that a lot of them are speaking English as a second language so they can miss nuances and think you are being rude when you aren’t.

I can't tell you how many people say they like Babymetal, but...... then they list off reasons they can't like it. Its manufactured, they don't pay their own instruments, they don't write the songs, etc. Who cares about that if you like it? Why torture yourself? And why bother explaining why you don't like it? This song sounds to me like a metalhead's idealized memory of a 90s pop ballad, which is a good thing, at least to my tastes. You picked one of the least metal things they've done. Their songs live on a spectrum, and this is way way over on the pop side of things. They have some early songs that are 90% EDM, too. The producer said that one reason for it is that they don't want to get pigeonholed as only traditional metal.
For an older song that really shows their metal side, and the band itself really well, check out Rondo of Nightmare from the Budokan Black Night concert.

Getting into any scene, metal punk ska whatever you have to start somewhere eh? Keep it real and keep it honest it works and is appreciated by the more open minded. Peace from So Cal. In regards to this being metal, Metal Galaxy explores all types and genres of music. They collabed with Polyphia on this one, so I wouldn't classify everything they do as "Metal" but most of their songs are backed by the Kamis and as you know are heavy, technical, and supreme. • @MacTaipan
    @MacTaipan Před 3 lety +4

There are two things that you mentioned that I'd like to comment on:
It's highly unlikely that BABYMETAL were created to make money. The girls were in the J-Pop business back then. If anything, that was where there would have been money to be made. But what Koba (their producer) did instead was dive head first into completely unknown territory, a niche that didn't even exist, that they would have to create to begin with. For the first videos they borrowed clothes, since there was no budget to work with. At that point nobody even dared to dream about international fame.
My second point: While BABYMETAL is about the girls first and foremost, I think most of us fans would love to see more attention on the musicians in the background. We are very aware how awesome they are and how important they are to BABYMETAL's success. We hate the masks that they are wearing now, making them even more anonymous. To be fair, though, they are being given their time to shine with solo spots from time to time. Few of us will fight you about them deserving more attention and fame, though, I guess.
I haven't watched your reaction yet, but one last comment: You have chosen one of the poppiest songs they have. Very few of their songs are "pure" Metal. Fusing Metal with other genres is what they are doing. You'll find elements of Reggae, Ska, Hip Hop, Waltz, Dubstep ad more. Assuming that you wouldn't mind seeing something heavier, I'd recommend checking out "Rondo of Nightmare", which also features one of the awesome solo section I mentioned: czcams.com/video/8WBDiLMNZcE/video.html

The stages move in this concert, and in some songs you get a long intro live that is not on the record. During this they raise, lower or move the stage. It also gives the girls a chance to hydrate and catch their breath.
Moa, one of the two girls in Babymetal, the other is Su, said of this song, "this is metal?" The third girl Yui left a few years ago due to a health condition.
The band explores the boundaries of metal. If you keep listening expect to be surprised.
As far as being formed as a vehicle to farm money, nothing can be further from the truth. First off, metal in 2010 when they formed was a fringe genre in Japan. Only X-Japan had any success selling albums.
Second, the girls were in a pop group called Sakura Gakuin at the time. The purpose of SG isn't to make money, it's to train young women for adult careers in the entertainment business. Girls have to leave SG when they turn 15. Babymetal was a sub unit of SG, and they just caught on. And continued after they left SG.
Third, Su was in a pop group before SG, a trio called Karen Girls, which sang the music in an anime. The show was only on a year, and the group disbanded when it ended. But during that time, KG had played before audiences as large as 25,000. If they wanted to make money off Su's voice, they would have done it in Jpop, not metal.
And make no mistake the band was formed around Su's voice and stage presence, She caught the eye of a producer named Koba, and he envisioned Su in a band with two smaller dancers singing metal. He chose metal because he didn'e want to limit Su's talents, and he thought metal was the best genre for Su to grow her voice. He also is a major metal head,
He was working with SG at the time and formed Babymetal when Su was chosen for it. He wasn't given much aid, the girls had to borrow clothes to wear on stage from students and teachers for a couple of years. They were not well funded. Everything you see today is when they play arenas, go back to the beginning years, and there were plenty of shows in front of sold out crowds of 200. They started out very small. At the Sumner Sonic festival 2012 they played the food court. In 2013 they got a stage at Summer Sonic, and that's when Metallica discovered them and they blew up.
Su once said in an interview "if they took singing away, there would be nothing left." She is doing what she loves. She also said she dreamed of world domination, touring the world and having people come see her and say "what the heck?" The shock and uniqeuness of the band all fits Su's personality. She was 13 at the time.
Don't get deceived by the cute. These are two talented, strong willed, ambitious women. All in a good way.
And I speak for many Babymetal fans when I say we wish the Kami band, the musicians, were more prominent.

And I can understand what you expressed in the previous video. I am a huge metal fan and when I first heard BABYMETAL, I had to ask myself if I should love this, because those girls did not write songs, because they were "manufactured", but I could not deny the fact that I loved their music. I asked myself handful of questions -- James LaBrie was repeatedly being said that he was just hired to sing their songs, then Dream Theater is a hoax? A British thrash band Onslaught's IN SEARCH OF SANITY is my favorite but the singer was just hired for the album. Judas Priest's "Some Heads Are Gonna Roll" is an excellent song of theirs, but it was written by a man who was not a member of the band. Aerosmith's most successful song is "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing." And Meat Loaf's BAT OUT OF HELL? It's definitely a classic, but the whole album was written by Jim Steinman and Meat Loaf was just a singer, however he is outstanding in his job. I thought these questions over and over again, and I convinced myself, I was convinced, "If I love the music, their performance, it doesn't matter who writes it. Just enjoy, bang my head and mosh."

Not giving a straight answer is totally a Japanese trait too. Even in Japanese they don't like giving straight forward answers. Just a cultural thing.

There's a difference between *having* an opinion and *expressing* that opinion in a way that is disrespectful. Most BM fans are fully aware they aren't everyone's cuppa and are fiiiine with that, we just don't like random assumptions. I'm only three minutes in on this video and you're still pretty dismissive of BM fans, but I didn't see the blocked video, and I don't know what was said there or the full context of this intro, so I guess I'm just glad you seem to have given them a fair look. I'm about to watch the rest of this one, I guess, to give you a fair chance, too. I just still have a bad taste in my mouth from the Kingslayer reaction. It was 1000% *unprovoked* rudeness. It costs $0 to not be a dick, my dude, and that seems to be the only part of it you're doubling down on. But judging by what you've already said on this video, you're likely going to disregard this comment completely anyway. Suppose I should just hit play.

Gimme choco going viral was both a blessing and a curse for Babymetal. One the one hand it threw them out on the world stage. But on the other hand, people that cannot look beyond the facade of that song walked away with quite some preconception.
And as you might have noticed, this song is not very metal. In their last album they really experimented with a LOT of genres.

  • @bobsheriff4756
    @bobsheriff4756 Před 3 lety +1

While I am a huge fan of babymetal. You are correct they are fake. They were taken from an idol band and never heard a metal song before recording their first song. They are completely a manufactured band they have no input in the writing process. The band is hired musicians there is no actual band different musicians are used all the time. That being said I still really enjoy their music. Had I heard the song gimme chocolate first I probably would of wrote them off. Fortunetly I heard the song Karate first and the music in that is absolutely crushing. The main riff is the epitome of heavy. After that I heard the live version of road to resistance and was blown away. I don't like gimme chocolate at all but the chourse is kind of catchy I guess.

    @Watcher-bk2jx Před 3 lety +3

What is Metal??? Ok..so Metal is a Sub-genre of Rock Its distinction is historically caused by the harder strikes to the drums and down tuned guitars and the difference between strumming a guitar Down from the low E to the high E versus struming UPwards from the High to the Low so the last sound coming off of a stroke is the low string, and other various playing techniques.
You asked how this is Metal. You need to understand that this comes from their Third Album. A lot of shit went on in 2018 that led to this album...a lot of dark and light shit...and this song was one of the thematic song that pushed the flow along. Babymetal's "Shtic", if you will, is to combine Metal (usually a different sub-genre of Metal on each song) with virtually any other genre of music out there. So it may sound Poppie but have down tuned guitars growling underneath...It may sound Prog-metal and then pop into a little Jazz Swing ditty..etc..
Thats the thing, no two songs are alike, no song is straight forward, most songs have things in them that tell a story (made more difficult for western fans as they do not speak the language or understand the VAST cultural references in the songs).
So if you want Metal, Old school, Male dominated growly vocal lines,....aint happening here. Its Clean Vocals by the Queen of Kawaii Metal over a collection of some of the most innovative Metal Music arrangements in the industry today.
And one last thing....to help you...Stop thinking of Babymetal as a Metal Act and think of them as Performance Art. Its the whole package. The Band, The Voice, The Dance, The Stage and The Crowd. That's Babymetal! We are The One!! (fan base is called "The One")
    Hope that helped a little.
    Put your Kitsune UP!! Po!
(PS Keep in mind they were only 11yr and 12yr old when they started in Babymetal and the fans are very Very protective of their girls! We watched them grow up into the Fantastic Women they are today so you have a lot of proud Uncle's and Auntie's out her watching out for them!! LoL!!)

    Some advice about BABYMETAL reactions:
tl;dr: Don't use compilations for BABYMETAL, we have a better solution.
Please don't rely solely on videos that are on CZcams (mainly compilations); they're not meant to be used for reactions as the mix of concerts and generally bad editing can make it confusing for those new to BABYMETAL. Also, you won't get the full BABYMETAL experience with these. Some people think they are safer for reactions, but they're not. They may get past the bot initially, but you still stand the chance of your video being blocked later and the possibility of having copyright strikes.
Some fans made a selection of "best" performances for each song; I would suggest using it for future BABYMETAL reactions. Here is the link : docs.google.com/document/d/1DqPsavocgGvCyZfUHvrkgJ5KZMaMkmMgjy2UxNNG96E/edit#
You should note though, that your video will almost definitely be blocked if these are included in your video and that you will need to do what we call "link & sync". It's very easy and made easier with the help of Reactor Hub, a tool made for helping avoid blocks etc. We made a short tutorial on how to use it : drive.google.com/open?id=1X6hN2BdyKzFmVN9XMEo2M89hsKY0B-bnnHRVVMNY13w
Using that you are safe from blocked videos and even future copyright strikes, since no copyright material is included in your video :).
There is even a discord for Reactor Hub if you need any help discord.gg/cPrSypT.
I'm hoping you will have fun with BABYMETAL in future reactions :).

I have to say that the whole CZcams community around reaction videos is just bizarre. A lot of people expect you all to never be negative or even unserious about anything, but also somehow be completely genuine at the same time. Channels that actually say negative things sometimes are usually a cut above the others in my books. Looking forward to watching more of your reactions.

Babymetal is a name, not necessarily the type of music they play. They generally play metal oriented songs but can veer toward hard rock, and this song is probably their most pop sounding. As the lead singer says "This ain't heavy metal, this is Babymetal".

A whole lot of us agree with you regarding the Kami band... In reality, many of us like BabyMetal because of the Kami band (I also love Su's voice, power and presence), and they make them a legit metal band.
Remember that they started as literal children, and you are now hearing the voice of a woman who has matured and trained a lot instead on the voice of a teenager. This show was recorded in January this year, and in more recent recordings (stuff done for Japanese tv recently) Su's voice is even fuller.
Good reaction, I was a bit hesitant about watching it. You are right, this song is more pop oriented (they are a fusion of Metal and J-Pop after all) and they had some lore stuff about light and dark forces being brought together, with the light force being represented by poppier songs, while the dark force songs were far heavier. This is one of the poppier songs, but still has some outstanding guitar work.

A couple of recommendations to showcase their metal chops would be rondo of nightmare, kagerou, akatsuki, megitsune, the live from sonisphere and perhaps the legend version of headbanger if only to see what some of their metal shows can do.
Gimme chocolate as several ppl mentioned is a very bad song to get introduced to them as it was during the time where they were still using backing tracks and the band wasnt with them during shows. Another thing to note is that was made around the time the girls were right in the middle or beginning of their puberty. The company theyre under cares about them alot thus they werent allowed to strain themselves too much hence why alot of their earlier songs were more on the poppy side at least thats the reason i remember reading.
Been a fan of them fer about 7 yrs now.
They were about 14(su/lead) and 12(moa and yui who isnt in the group anymore) respectively when they first started. Theyre in their early 20s now

"This is not what I expected " is an opening description of all Babymetal songs... as I'm sure someone will point out.... none of their songs sound the same to one another. this album i agree isn't as metal, its more like an experiment with different cultural/style influences.... night night burn is latino, oh majinai is like Riverdance, shanti shanti shanti is Bollywood, and you got BxMxC is metal rap... your description of Spice Girls and Avenge Seven Fold is not that far off, since the original concept was to combine Jpop style with metal/hard rock instrumentals.... The only thing I feel compelled to say is that while to the uninitiated it may seem like the backing band don't get the credit they deserve, this isn't the case amongst the fans, who tend to know exactly who is playing at each performance and are well aware of how important their contribution is to BM's success. Maybe try Rondo of Nightmare with Mischief of Gods Intro, to see them front and centre. I hope you continue your BM journey :)
