The older good-looking gentleman with the red lanyard around his neck is Dad. Dimash didn't know his dad made it until after the show. Dimash said,"if I'd known he was there I wouldn't have shown off so much". Yep 4 key changes. The reason he did those staccato notes is because someone accused him of Lip-syncing. Those stops were done with his diaphragm not his throat. Yeah, Dimash finished second. And I'm certain he was gracious as always. His singing gets better not just here but in the years after. He got a lot of exposure in America where he weathered a publicity storm because the producers of the show lied to him and when he called them out they tried to make it look like it was all Dimash's fault. Well we didn't buy it, We knew who Dimash is and he wouldn't have done something like that. There are places that know the whole story if you need to,or want to. Dimash had two things that the executive types don't understand, character and conviction. In other words he is a man of his word and he expects others to be the same way. I can't really recommend any of his performances over the other because at the time he did them they were his best. That's who Dimash is too. You also need to look up his fellow Kazakh Daneliya Tuleshova. She is a 13 year old now and is on America's Got Talent. She just passed her first audition. She is easy to find.

Dimash's version of SOS on the "Singer" was great! It's just that there is so much more to see. The winner of the show was Sandy Lam. She is an older Chinese star that is the equivalent to....well in country she is the equivalent to Dolly Parton in status. You can see her at minute 5:59 of your video. The Chinese audience chanted "Godess, Godess" when she came out. Very beloved in China. But, ultimately though Dimash came in second, he didn't lose. His career was catapulted into the stratosphere because of the show and his fan base grew to astronomical numbers in China and now around the world. China was a really great thing for Dimash. But he has grown considerably since those times. Singer performances are great and are must sees but some of his most phenomenal stuff came out much later. He also met 2 men who would become very influential in his life: 1) Igor Krutoy, a billionaire but more importantly, a musician, a composer and a mentor. He talked to Demash's father and to Demash and out of that meeting, comes a new-found relationship and beautiful music designed by Igor with Dimash's voice/temperament in mind; 2) Singer Terry Lin, (nominated for 5 Golden Melody Awards for best Mandarin singer) a well-known contestant - who became a father figure to him (I believe Dimash calls him Papa Lin). Dimash came to his program one day and they sang a duet together.
He did win the SOS,Opera2 and Adagio first, is 14 weeks in total, Dimash become very famous in this Show, so He is the really winner, I watch him every day since I found him in this show, other singers they are great, but I don't really watch them every day, for me Dimash is the best, thanks for your reaction.

You may have read this already, but, I read that up until the year Dimash performed on the Singer, only a Chinese would win...Dimash did place second, and the following year the way the winner was decided did change...For the record, Dimash went in pretty much unkown and came out a sensation to the world. Did get to see him in December 2019 at Barclay Center, Brooklyn...and what a show it was.

Dimash was a promising, young and strong vocalist at the time, who in 2017 became a sensation in China and the most popular foreign vocalist. Producer Vitas (Pudovkin) thus reminded the Chinese audience of a forgotten singer- Vitas, who was no longer performing at that time and for him it was a chance to earn money.
There was a legal process between Hunan TV and Vitas because of the authors rights. The organisers of the contest forgot to ask the author about it. Nevertheless Vitas or his producer could have solved the problem more diplomatically. As a result, Vitas has lost some of his popularity in China because many suspect that he is jealous of the fenomenal performance of the young singer. But Dimash always says that he respekts Vitas.
Yes!! I happened to catch a live concert video in late 2019/early 2020 where Dimash sang "Opera 2" and went even higher ... and since then I can't find it again!! I had guessed that Vitas learned about Dimash blowing it higher and has rescinded his permissions for Dimash to sing the song or maybe only to not permit the videos of him singing it to be broadcasted.
Hi Matthew, the show is called The Singer, for already established artists and judged by professionals in the trade and a 500 member audience somewhat in the field either as singers or musicians or both and backed by a very professional collection of musicians, and the artists arrange their own songs. So their judged by their peers. The show is a very high calibre product. Dimash was invited as a wildcard. The youngest that year - 2017, unheard of in China, but after SOS....well the rest is history. If you want english subs check out the great work of Gloria Wu's channel. Songs Dimash sang in english she would not have translated and I think there are 4 or 5 in this competition. Great reaction.
Yes this was his father, he surprised Dimash, at the end of the video when Dimash thanks the audience he suddenly stop and sees his father and the finish his thanks go join his father and gives him a big hug, you can see the happiness on his face, it is priceless. In a way it is a good thing he did not know his father was there, you might see he is more cheeky and flirting with the audience, having known his father was there he would not have been that flirty. No disrespect intended. Ms Sandy Lam is good....used to listen to many of her songs...still listen to them every now and then BUT she is nowhere near Dimash's level. That's not to say she is not good. She is DEFINITELY talented AND skilful but Dimash is RARE. Dimash's greatness doesn't lies in just high notes, low notes or wide ranges. What makes him great and rare is ALL and EVERY things/factors incorporated into one person (him) he has them all.
But it doesn’t always count. If somebody is almost a legend and you listen his/her songs for over 30 years, then it is logical that you vote for that song or a singer. And she is good. Just Dimash broke all valid norms with his voice 😅
Urban legend is that the producers never thought a foreigner would win, so gave the win to Sandy. The very next year, though, Jessie J won. If you like his high notes, you will appreciate Diva Dance-also on The Singer.

Personally I think both those songs are not his best songs. I would much prefer reactions to Sinful Passion, Late Autumn, Ogni Pietra ..almost every other Dimash song in fact.
Fun fact: When Dimash began his participation in The Singer, he confessed to his grandmother that he was really hoping to get to the midway point of the competition, felt like he would be extremely lucky to get there. How well raised and humble is this young man!?
It's true he's lucky to be invited to be on Singer 2017....it's a competition strictly by invitations and only for professional singers who's already popular and established in China. Dimash was not established nor popular in China when he was invited though he has some degree of popularity and success in Kazakhstan.

He had one week to rearrange the song, learned it phonetically and present it on stage within 5/6 days. He didn't do too badly, Freddie Mercury would've been proud of Dimash.

To me it feels like the artists on the singer are, yes, giving it their all and then some, but they don’t have as much riding on actually winning the show. It’s more about using their time on it to showcase themselves to the world who hasn’t seen them yet. But they don’t seem to act competitive with each other in the way that people get in shows like American idol, AGT and all the other “got talent” shows
Yes he placed 2nd, but he was the youngest at 22. Totally unknown in China, he was up against seasoned professionals. The other contestants were all very good, but how would that look, a Kazakh kid winning a Chinese talent show. Think about it.

Но после первого тура, на котором Димаш произвел фурор, решили продлить его выступления (поэтому приехал его папа для заключения нового контракта). Так что по итогам 2 туров Димаш выиграл этот конкурс по первоначальному замыслу.

Tenors don’t usually sing in the lower half of the 2nd octave.... which He smashes :D To put that in comparison: He sings lower than bass in Opera. I immediately thought, nope not done.😄 The woman at the beginning of the video wearing the dress with the jacket draped over her shoulders is Sandy Lam, the winner of the show. She is a well established singer in Asia, has released thirty something records in her career, and has a beautiful voice. I think her popularity, and Dimash being an unknown at the time had a lot to do with it. Dimash became good friends with some of the other contestants on this show, and has done other performances with them over the last couple years.
Dimash has prepared for this his entire life. His family said that he didn't want to play with toys, he carried a bag of cassette tapes and there is a photo of him taking a nap holding a cassette. No, no, he was very good in SOS. People just mean that there is much more to him than what he showed there, but this (and subsequent) versions of SOS are sublime. The "SINGER" competition is held in China only with professional singers who are already famous and famous. The competition consisted of 14 rounds and lasted almost 4 months. He's got videos of full concerts on his CZcams channel and they are out of this world. He really highlights Kazakh culture with songs, instruments and dancers plus songs sung in many languages. That performance by Dimash of SOS is brilliant, so emotional and rich and nigh technically perfect. If I may say, in my humble opinion it is not that his performance is not his best, not at all, it is that we have been spoilt so much over the years since that video came out, of many other performances, which in their own way showcase the vast talent of Dimash. Is he much better now than he was then? Quite possibly, does that detract from that performance? It shouldn't. I have watched performances of SOS prior to that one from the Singer and it's hard to pick if they are a level DOWN from the Singer Episode. Even today, three years on from that performance, I still think it is a perfect performance showcasing both the range, depth, versatility and emotion of his voice. What I see most which seems to be somewhat more reflective of moving on from the first introduction to Dimash in the form of SOS, is the phrase "You haven't seen anything yet"......that I would agree with. SOS is good, very good and still remains excellent against all the other things that he has done.

Yeah his attitude gets me everytime. Hes 22 at the time & from a small but great country called khazakastan & yet was able to perform on a foreign stage on level of a super star. I mean where does he bring that professionalism & confidence?? After 3yrs of adorin him as a fan still unbelievable for me.
Dimash was invited to The Chinese Singer 2017 as a wild card. He sang 1st because all of the other singers had never heard Dimash sing so I think they thought he wouldn't be as good as he was. Won 1st trophy and number 1 for best song. Sandy Lam took 1st place and Dimash took 2nd. A lot of people including myself feel that because he was not Chinese but it was a Chinese show they couldn't let a 22 year old Kazakhstan win. He was the best singer and the youngest. Being there and singing SOS, he had a billion views and had a bodyguard the next day. He is the absolutely best singer in the world. ❤ him to the moon and back. The show also made him a star. He was doing non stop concerts and tons of flowers from his Dears after every concert. They follow him no matter where he goes. The Chinese Dears fell in love with him during the singer. This show is a Chinese competition where already famous and established musicians compete against each other and there are many rules. Dimash actually won several rounds and came in as the runner up in the overall competition. The winner was a very famous Chinese musician whose name is Sandy, she’s incredible but not in the way Dimash is because Dimash is just on a completely different level but at the time of this competition Dimash wasn’t known in China and he was brought in as a wildcard, he was the first foreigner to ever be invited to participate on “The Singer” competition and he was also the youngest to ever participate at that time & this was in 2017 when he was 22yrs old. When he performed the song SOS he was the first contestant and it was his very first performance on the show and he actually won that round and became an overnight success in China and has only become more famous there since. The following year 2018 Jessie J was invited to compete and became the first foreigner to win the competition. Dimash returned in 2018 to perform for charity with the other contestants where he performed “Hello” by Lionel Ritchie and even Jessie J was blown away by him & his performance ( you should also check that performance out , it’s incredible) but then again he’s always incredible and has just got better & better even when you think it’s impossible for him to impress you more BUT he always does! The show is I AM A Singer 2017. Dimash didn't LOSE, he came in 2nd behind a Chinese woman named Sandy Lam. It was a 14 week 1 episode per week competition of Professional music acts against Dimash as an unknown wildcard Foreigner. He was also the youngest performer and he sang the French SOS on Episode 1 & became an overnight hit in Asia. He sang the Russian Opera 2 on Episode 2. Hi! I’m glad you are back with Dimash. So, yes. When I first time heard him singing S.O.S. song, I thought it is a hoax . So I went through Internet till the morning to listen bunch of his other songs and back-stage clips from The Singer2017 😂. I also found out he didn't had enough big international repertoire at the time, and he (with help of course) had to prepare 13 songs in 3 month (and there are also some complicated rules I don’t understand). So he had to impress them, otherwise he would be excluded from the competition. Opera 2 is song from Vitas- Russian singer well known in the China, too. Oh, yes... Singer is competition of in China well known singers (all singers are invited). He was invited as a “wildcard”. The young foreigner, not established singer who at the time of this contest (2017) hardly spoke English. So although he finished second, he was a winner. With his first performance (S.O.S.), he got huge numbers of fans in China and his career skyrocketed. Ha ha i liked your reaction a lot. I love watching reactions to Dimash by reactors just starting to discover Dimash. It’s so much fun. To stay chronological the next will be „The show must go on“. This was his first song in English and he had to learn the lyrics phonetically and he started to learn English which improved a lot since than. But trust me you have seen nothing yet and yes he is getting better and better. Wait until you are coming to his performances of 2019 and 2020. Remember when Dimash entered "I Am Singer" in 2017, it was considered an experiment. He went up against professional well known Chinese singers. Because of that, nobody expected he would make it to the finals...Sandy Lam is a good singer, but there wasn't one singer on Dimash's level. Terry Lin is also a very good singer...and they actually became friends. Now, that you listened to the extremes,...now get ready for his better songs. "Sinful Passion" : he sang A'Studio's popular song with A'Studio on-stage. He will blow you away with a 22 second last note where he does multiple runs.
SOS was the first of his performances in The Singer in China which was for already well known established singers in 2017. Dimash was the only exception. As far as The Singer is concerned, Dimash was in another galaxy and it was impossible to compete against him. The other contestants knew, the audience knew, the producers knew, the world knew and maybe Dimash knew. I say maybe Dimash knew, because there's a very touching version of this performance where it is revealed to him, whilst he's taking his bow, that his father was unexpectedly in the audience, and had flown from Kazakhstan to support him. Dimash leaves the stage and throws his arms round his dad - a beautiful moment. The Singer competition organisers must have had their own reasons for the final result, but we can be absolutely certain it had zero to do with the stratospheric vocal genius who lights up the world with the power and beauty of his singing, and the pure sweetness of his soul.
The winner of The Singer 2017 was Sandy Lam, a well known Chinese singer. Apparently no foreigner could win. After Dimash's participation they changed that rule and next year Jessie J won. You will see Sandy Lam giving Dimash standing ovations most of the time and showing faces of stress for having to sing after him.
Thank you, Matthew!. Although very difficult not to review newer content, I believe Dimash's Singer 2017 journey is a must see. Every performance is unique and amazing. It demonstrates a progression of Dimash's artistry. It was possibly a political move that a well known Chinese singer like Sandy Lam had to win that year, because Dimash was unkown in China, young and from another country. Regardless, Dimash was not a loser, and the rest, as they say, is history.
This performance is a week after S.O.S in the same Chinese TV show I am Singer in 2017 when he was 22. You should watch some of his newer performances he is all grown up now and his voice is even more amazing. Dimash always thanks every musician he works with and yes that's his father and the woman at the end that said Wow was the winner, Sandy Lam but only just💖 This was a chinese show for highly respected singers to compete, Dimash was the only non Chinese singer invited because the producer saw him perform for the Chinese and Kazakh presidents and was very impressed. He is from Kazakhstan is 6ft 3, 1/4 and was the youngest ever competitor in 2017 at only 22 years old. This was his first performance on the show and the audience went wild for him. When the show was broadcast on tv he had to have bodyguards for the first time in his life as he had become a superstar overnight in China. He is now a world class artist, still just turned 26 on the 24th of May but touring the world to sell out arenas with his solo concerts, (on hold until next year due to covid-19) he also performs in concerts with the famous russian composer Igor Krutoy, is constantly collecting awards, attends many prestigious red carpet events, film festivals and even models for lots of high end fashion houses. He is university trained in Classical opera vocals to degree level, also holds a degree in contemporary pop music and jazz with a major in vocals, and has now graduated with his master degree in music composition with a top mark of 100%. He has been having singing lessons from the age of 5 when his teacher noticed he had perfect pitch . He was offered a place at the Astana Opera in Kazakhstan but respecfully turned it down to persue his own more contemporary musical career. He is a multi instrumentalist, more than 8 instruments and also sings in 12 different languages and has a range of over 6 octaves from a low bass A2 to a high soprano, plus a whistle register with his highest note so far being a 5 second D8 with vibrato. He is widely recognized as the best vocalist in the world. He speaks fluent Kazakh and Russian, is studying English and Mandarin and has conversational skills in both but not quite fluent yet. He is kind, humble, generous and modest, a very elegant, well bought up young man. Dimash has grown tremendously as a singer/vocalist/musician/performer over the past forty months. His latest MV, ACROSS ENDLESS DIMENSIONS for an Italian sci-fi fantasy movie called CREATORS : THE PAST starring Bruce Payne, William Shatner and Gerald Depardieu among others were masterclass in singing and performing by itself.....his facial and body language in tandem with his vocals....👍👍👍. His parents are in opera--you can see him singing with them by putting "Dimash sings with parents" in You'tube; Yes, he has trained for 3 hrs. a day since age 5, He is 6'3". Your music is also excellent! Good luck to you! When I first listened to Dimash, I watched the unedited shows of The Singer....you could see the 22 year old Dimash in the contest of seasoned professionals from China. Sort of the best of the best against the unknown kid from Kazakhstan. He was an invited “token” guest and was welcomed politely by the audience of judges and contestants. The unedited videos show the adjustments he had to make etc and in particular communication issues. Naturally he blew them away with is rendition of SOS. By the time he performed the second show for Opera 2....he required a bodyguard from his hotel. His life story is fascinating. Obviously his genes, years of training, determination, perserverance....and talent have made him very special. Enjoy your journey with Dimash.

TJR Hey Matthew, I really enjoyed your reaction (SOS and Opera2), probably because you are not only a performer -- but someone who is captured by musical excellence. Its also good to see someone from the Country Western world react so positively. I used to live in Texas and Kansas so I'm not knocking the genre. Good music is good music. On youtube a seasoned Irish singer's reaction was to shed a few tears without shame. I love it when skilled singers/teachers educate you to how hard it is for anyone to do what Dimash does with his music. And that Dimash's performance is the result of years of hard work. All this to say...I think you would enjoy watching and listening to the Chinese TV show "Singer 2017" episodes 1 through 14. You may not have the time but I found most of the episodes have subtitles (in various languages) which made it the Singer 2017 all the more enjoyable. Sandy Lam the winner of that years contestants is a veteran of the music business. She won (in my opinion) because as a performer and producer and made better song choices with respect to the audience. Also, Dimash was sick for one episode (which in a week to week talent show has an effect on you for at least another week). Sandy Lam also had a number of albums from which to draw songs from that possibly still connected with people. A side note --- the Singer TV program has a weird format where they drop singers whom the audience don't support and bring in both older contestants from previous years and other successful performers. The results seem to bring in a larger TV viewing audience but it misses the opportunity to see the top acts rehearse or talk about their craft. If you are interested in the Singer 2017 episodes I recommend you look at the Wiki Singer 2017.

The reason Dimash didn't win overall is that all the contestants were established professionals. Fans will often stay loyal in the face of proof that their idol is not the best. Like American Idol, Dimash (2nd place) was still the true winner because he was the wild card, foreign performer, and The Singer turned him into a Super Star. If The Singer didn't post to CZcams, his success wouldn't have reached the rest of the world, though it's possible to be a huge success with just China, Kazakhstan, and Russia behind you. You can search Sandy Lam and Singer 2017 to see her. She was the woman in the Green Room at 6:00 on your tape. Yes, that was Dimash's father in the audience. Dimash didn't know he was there till he spotted him when taking bows.
While Dimash didn't win The Singer 2017, China -- he did express how much he learned from both the show and with the help of the other performers. While looking back, it would be obvious that he "should have won"; there are some important factors to remember when it came to the final tally of points. This was one of the first years an 'Outsider' [performer not from China] was brought in for a wildcard spot. The show is made up from well known [in China] performers, so they already had a huge fanbase with the audience (until he sang, Dimash wasn't expected to go very far by the audience -- of course that changed after his first song). It's the studio audience that votes and ranks their favorite singer from each round, and the total points and scores are accumulated throughout the show (as long as they don't lose the round). It was extremely close, but a critical thing to remember is that culturally [pride], the audience would not normally have an outside competitor winning the top title [overall winner] -- although even until the end it was too close to determine if that normal competitive position would still hold true because Dimash had won over the China audience. In fact, even during The Singer competition, he started winning separate National Awards from the music industry in China. Even though he didn't win the overall show (close, but total points just missed out), the audience responded so favorably to the diversity of bringing in foreign competitors, that it became more accepted, and a foreign performer was able to win thanks to the groundwork Dimash had accomplished. It was also in recognition of how great a talent Dimash was, the production brought him back as a Guest Celebrity Singer on future seasons. He has also sung with many of the performers (from his first season) at his own concerts, as well as at other prestigious special events. There was never even a hint of disappointment or bitterness from Dimash... he still comments about how performing on that show with all the other performers was one of the best learning experiences he had. Dear Mat, Dimash did not loose, he did place no 2 which was a sensation for the following reaons: The Singer is a Chinese show where particpants are invited only upon invitation, i.e. they ARE already famous. One of the directors had discovered Dimash and they made an experiment of asking a foreigner, plus being the youngest person participating (he was 22) to join with a 'wild card'. .... and they LOVED him, i.e. the audience (consisting of 500 selected people) AND his competitors! Overnight, D. was a star who needed bodyguards whereever he went. He got 600 million of clicks on WIBO, the Chinese kind of Instagram. First place was a highly-talented renowned lady named Sandy Lam. Rumour says this was done because it has to be a Chinese who wins, but check it out, the woman is phenomenal. So were the majority of the other competitors. China has an extremely high standard of trained singers, you would not believe it. Rapper Victor Ma (duet with Dimash which blows your mind), Terry Lin, fantastic singer and now very good friend of Dimash. Interesting backstories to dig out.... and songs, of course! The older good-looking gentleman with the red lanyard around his neck is Dad. Dimash didn't know his dad made it until after the show. Dimash said,"if I'd known he was there I wouldn't have shown off so much". Yep 4 key changes. The reason he did those staccato notes is because someone accused him of Lip-syncing. Those stops were done with his diaphragm not his throat. Yeah, Dimash finished second. And I'm certain he was gracious as always. His singing gets better not just here but in the years after. He got a lot of exposure in America where he weathered a publicity storm because the producers of the show lied to him and when he called them out they tried to make it look like it was all Dimash's fault. Well we didn't buy it, We knew who Dimash is and he wouldn't have done something like that. There are places that know the whole story if you need to,or want to. Dimash had two things that the executive types don't understand, character and conviction. In other words he is a man of his word and he expects others to be the same way. I can't really recommend any of his performances over the other because at the time he did them they were his best. That's who Dimash is too. You also need to look up his fellow Kazakh Daneliya Tuleshova. She is a 13 year old now and is on America's Got Talent. She just passed her first audition. She is easy to find.

Dimash's version of SOS on the "Singer" was great! It's just that there is so much more to see. The winner of the show was Sandy Lam. She is an older Chinese star that is the equivalent to....well in country she is the equivalent to Dolly Parton in status. You can see her at minute 5:59 of your video. The Chinese audience chanted "Godess, Godess" when she came out. Very beloved in China. But, ultimately though Dimash came in second, he didn't lose. His career was catapulted into the stratosphere because of the show and his fan base grew to astronomical numbers in China and now around the world. China was a really great thing for Dimash. But he has grown considerably since those times. Singer performances are great and are must sees but some of his most phenomenal stuff came out much later. You may have read this already, but, I read that up until the year Dimash performed on the Singer, only a Chinese would win...Dimash did place second, and the following year the way the winner was decided did change...For the record, Dimash went in pretty much unkown and came out a sensation to the world. Did get to see him in December 2019 at Barclay Center, Brooklyn...and what a show it was.

Dimash was a promising, young and strong vocalist at the time, who in 2017 became a sensation in China and the most popular foreign vocalist. Producer Vitas (Pudovkin) thus reminded the Chinese audience of a forgotten singer- Vitas, who was no longer performing at that time and for him it was a chance to earn money.
There was a legal process between Hunan TV and Vitas because of the authors rights. The organisers of the contest forgot to ask the author about it. Nevertheless Vitas or his producer could have solved the problem more diplomatically. As a result, Vitas has lost some of his popularity in China because many suspect that he is jealous of the fenomenal performance of the young singer. But Dimash always says that he respekts Vitas.

Yes!! I happened to catch a live concert video in late 2019/early 2020 where Dimash sang "Opera 2" and went even higher ... and since then I can't find it again!! I had guessed that Vitas learned about Dimash blowing it higher and has rescinded his permissions for Dimash to sing the song or maybe only to not permit the videos of him singing it to be broadcasted.
Hi Matthew, the show is called The Singer, for already established artists and judged by professionals in the trade and a 500 member audience somewhat in the field either as singers or musicians or both and backed by a very professional collection of musicians, and the artists arrange their own songs. So their judged by their peers. The show is a very high calibre product. Dimash was invited as a wildcard. The youngest that year - 2017, unheard of in China, but after SOS....well the rest is history. If you want english subs check out the great work of Gloria Wu's channel. Songs Dimash sang in english she would not have translated and I think there are 4 or 5 in this competition. Great reaction.
Yes this was his father, he surprised Dimash, at the end of the video when Dimash thanks the audience he suddenly stop and sees his father and the finish his thanks go join his father and gives him a big hug, you can see the happiness on his face, it is priceless. In a way it is a good thing he did not know his father was there, you might see he is more cheeky and flirting with the audience, having known his father was there he would not have been that flirty. No disrespect intended. Ms Sandy Lam is good....used to listen to many of her songs...still listen to them every now and then BUT she is nowhere near Dimash's level. That's not to say she is not good. She is DEFINITELY talented AND skilful but Dimash is RARE. Dimash's greatness doesn't lies in just high notes, low notes or wide ranges. What makes him great and rare is ALL and EVERY things/factors incorporated into one person (him) he has them all.

It's true he's lucky to be invited to be on Singer 2017....it's a competition strictly by invitations and only for professional singers who's already popular and established in China. Dimash was not established nor popular in China when he was invited though he has some degree of popularity and success in Kazakhstan.

Show Must Go On (Queen's cover) from episode 3, Singer 2017. Bear in mind in 2017, Dimash could only say Hi, I'm Dimash, hello, thank you. He practically spoke no English. He had one week to rearrange the song, learned it phonetically and present it on stage within 5/6 days. He didn't do too badly, Freddie Mercury would've been proud of Dimash.

To me it feels like the artists on the singer are, yes, giving it their all and then some, but they don’t have as much riding on actually winning the show. It’s more about using their time on it to showcase themselves to the world who hasn’t seen them yet. But they don’t seem to act competitive with each other in the way that people get in shows like American idol, AGT and all the other “got talent” shows
Yes he placed 2nd, but he was the youngest at 22. Totally unknown in China, he was up against seasoned professionals. The other contestants were all very good, but how would that look, a Kazakh kid winning a Chinese talent show. Think about it.

Но после первого тура, на котором Димаш произвел фурор, решили продлить его выступления (поэтому приехал его папа для заключения нового контракта). Так что по итогам 2 туров Димаш выиграл этот конкурс по первоначальному замыслу.

I immediately thought, nope not done.😄 The woman at the beginning of the video wearing the dress with the jacket draped over her shoulders is Sandy Lam, the winner of the show. She is a well established singer in Asia, has released thirty something records in her career, and has a beautiful voice. I think her popularity, and Dimash being an unknown at the time had a lot to do with it. Dimash became good friends with some of the other contestants on this show, and has done other performances with them over the last couple years.
Dimash has prepared for this his entire life. His family said that he didn't want to play with toys, he carried a bag of cassette tapes and there is a photo of him taking a nap holding a cassette. When I saw what the music of that reaction would be, I was anxious to see to his amazement. He was perfect, and even played with the competition's competitors every time he went up another ton. It's unbelievable what he did.
He didn't know that his father was there. Dimash had been in China for some time and missed his family. The father went in secret and stayed hidden until the end. When Dimash was doing thanks, he even stopped talking when he saw his father there. She ran up to him and it was a very brotherly hug between the two.

That performance by Dimash of SOS is brilliant, so emotional and rich and nigh technically perfect. If I may say, in my humble opinion it is not that his performance is not his best, not at all, it is that we have been spoilt so much over the years since that video came out, of many other performances, which in their own way showcase the vast talent of Dimash. Is he much better now than he was then? Quite possibly, does that detract from that performance? It shouldn't. I have watched performances of SOS prior to that one from the Singer and it's hard to pick if they are a level DOWN from the Singer Episode. Even today, three years on from that performance, I still think it is a perfect performance showcasing both the range, depth, versatility and emotion of his voice. What I see most which seems to be somewhat more reflective of moving on from the first introduction to Dimash in the form of SOS, is the phrase "You haven't seen anything yet"......that I would agree with. SOS is good, very good and still remains excellent against all the other things that he has done.

Yeah his attitude gets me everytime. Hes 22 at the time & from a small but great country called khazakastan & yet was able to perform on a foreign stage on level of a super star. I mean where does he bring that professionalism & confidence?? After 3yrs of adorin him as a fan still unbelievable for me.
Dimash was invited to The Chinese Singer 2017 as a wild card. He sang 1st because all of the other singers had never heard Dimash sing so I think they thought he wouldn't be as good as he was. Won 1st trophy and number 1 for best song. Sandy Lam took 1st place and Dimash took 2nd. A lot of people including myself feel that because he was not Chinese but it was a Chinese show they couldn't let a 22 year old Kazakhstan win. He was the best singer and the youngest. Being there and singing SOS, he had a billion views and had a bodyguard the next day. He is the absolutely best singer in the world. ❤ him to the moon and back. The show also made him a star. He was doing non stop concerts and tons of flowers from his Dears after every concert. They follow him no matter where he goes. The Chinese Dears fell in love with him during the singer. This show is a Chinese competition where already famous and established musicians compete against each other and there are many rules. Dimash actually won several rounds and came in as the runner up in the overall competition. The winner was a very famous Chinese musician whose name is Sandy, she’s incredible but not in the way Dimash is because Dimash is just on a completely different level but at the time of this competition Dimash wasn’t known in China and he was brought in as a wildcard, he was the first foreigner to ever be invited to participate on “The Singer” competition and he was also the youngest to ever participate at that time & this was in 2017 when he was 22yrs old. When he performed the song SOS he was the first contestant and it was his very first performance on the show and he actually won that round and became an overnight success in China and has only become more famous there since. The following year 2018 Jessie J was invited to compete and became the first foreigner to win the competition. Dimash returned in 2018 to perform for charity with the other contestants where he performed “Hello” by Lionel Ritchie and even Jessie J was blown away by him & his performance ( you should also check that performance out , it’s incredible) but then again he’s always incredible and has just got better & better even when you think it’s impossible for him to impress you more BUT he always does! The show is I AM A Singer 2017. Dimash didn't LOSE, he came in 2nd behind a Chinese woman named Sandy Lam. It was a 14 week 1 episode per week competition of Professional music acts against Dimash as an unknown wildcard Foreigner. He was also the youngest performer and he sang the French SOS on Episode 1 & became an overnight hit in Asia. He sang the Russian Opera 2 on Episode 2. During the 14 week long show he sang in several of the 12 languages he can and played 3 of the 7 instruments he can play. 🎶👱♀️👗👠👠💓
Hi! I’m glad you are back with Dimash. So, yes. When I first time heard him singing S.O.S. song, I thought it is a hoax . So I went through Internet till the morning to listen bunch of his other songs and back-stage clips from The Singer2017 😂. I also found out he didn't had enough big international repertoire at the time, and he (with help of course) had to prepare 13 songs in 3 month (and there are also some complicated rules I don’t understand). So he had to impress them, otherwise he would be excluded from the competition. Opera 2 is song from Vitas- Russian singer well known in the China, too. Oh, yes... Singer is competition of in China well known singers (all singers are invited). He was invited as a “wildcard”. The young foreigner, not established singer who at the time of this contest (2017) hardly spoke English. So although he finished second, he was a winner. With his first performance (S.O.S.), he got huge numbers of fans in China and his career skyrocketed. Ha ha i liked your reaction a lot. I love watching reactions to Dimash by reactors just starting to discover Dimash. It’s so much fun. To stay chronological the next will be „The show must go on“. This was his first song in English and he had to learn the lyrics phonetically and he started to learn English which improved a lot since than. But trust me you have seen nothing yet and yes he is getting better and better. Wait until you are coming to his performances of 2019 and 2020. I’m not a singer but I think especially his lower register improved. Remember when Dimash entered "I Am Singer" in 2017, it was considered an experiment.
He went up against professional well known Chinese singers. Because of that, nobody expected he would make it to the finals...Sandy Lam is a good singer, but there wasn't one singer on Dimash's level.

SOS was the first of his performances in The Singer in China which was for already well known established singers in 2017. Dimash was the only exception. As far as The Singer is concerned, Dimash was in another galaxy and it was impossible to compete against him. The other contestants knew, the audience knew, the producers knew, the world knew and maybe Dimash knew. I say maybe Dimash knew, because there's a very touching version of this performance where it is revealed to him, whilst he's taking his bow, that his father was unexpectedly in the audience, and had flown from Kazakhstan to support him. Dimash leaves the stage and throws his arms round his dad - a beautiful moment. The Singer competition organisers must have had their own reasons for the final result, but we can be absolutely certain it had zero to do with the stratospheric vocal genius who lights up the world with the power and beauty of his singing, and the pure sweetness of his soul.
I loved how the other competitors knew they were watching the best and yet were glad to be there to witness such performances.
The winner of The Singer 2017 was Sandy Lam, a well known Chinese singer. Apparently no foreigner could win. After Dimash's participation they changed that rule and next year Jessie J won. You will see Sandy Lam giving Dimash standing ovations most of the time and showing faces of stress for having to sing after him.
Thank you, Matthew!. Although very difficult not to review newer content, I believe Dimash's Singer 2017 journey is a must see. Every performance is unique and amazing. It demonstrates a progression of Dimash's artistry. It was possibly a political move that a well known Chinese singer like Sandy Lam had to win that year, because Dimash was unkown in China, young and from another country. Regardless, Dimash was not a loser, and the rest, as they say, is history.
He won the SOS episode, Opera2 episode, and the Adagio episode. He came in second place overall in the competition.
This performance is a week after S.O.S in the same Chinese TV show I am Singer in 2017 when he was 22. You should watch some of his newer performances he is all grown up now and his voice is even more amazing. This was a chinese show for highly respected singers to compete, Dimash was the only non Chinese singer invited because the producer saw him perform for the Chinese and Kazakh presidents and was very impressed. He is from Kazakhstan is 6ft 3, 1/4 and was the youngest ever competitor in 2017 at only 22 years old. This was his first performance on the show and the audience went wild for him. When the show was broadcast on tv he had to have bodyguards for the first time in his life as he had become a superstar overnight in China. He is now a world class artist, still just turned 26 on the 24th of May but touring the world to sell out arenas with his solo concerts, (on hold until next year due to covid-19) he also performs in concerts with the famous russian composer Igor Krutoy, is constantly collecting awards, attends many prestigious red carpet events, film festivals and even models for lots of high end fashion houses. He is university trained in Classical opera vocals to degree level, also holds a degree in contemporary pop music and jazz with a major in vocals, and has now graduated with his master degree in music composition with a top mark of 100%. He has been having singing lessons from the age of 5 when his teacher noticed he had perfect pitch . He was offered a place at the Astana Opera in Kazakhstan but respecfully turned it down to persue his own more contemporary musical career. He is a multi instrumentalist, more than 8 instruments and also sings in 12 different languages and has a range of over 6 octaves from a low bass A2 to a high soprano, plus a whistle register with his highest note so far being a 5 second D8 with vibrato. He is widely recognized as the best vocalist in the world. He speaks fluent Kazakh and Russian, is studying English and Mandarin and has conversational skills in both but not quite fluent yet. He is kind, humble, generous and modest, a very elegant, well bought up young man. Dimash has grown tremendously as a singer/vocalist/musician/performer over the past forty months. His latest MV, ACROSS ENDLESS DIMENSIONS for an Italian sci-fi fantasy movie called CREATORS : THE PAST starring Bruce Payne, William Shatner and Gerald Depardieu among others were masterclass in singing and performing by itself.....his facial and body language in tandem with his vocals....👍👍👍. When I first listened to Dimash, I watched the unedited shows of The Singer....you could see the 22 year old Dimash in the contest of seasoned professionals from China. Sort of the best of the best against the unknown kid from Kazakhstan. He was an invited “token” guest and was welcomed politely by the audience of judges and contestants. The unedited videos show the adjustments he had to make etc and in particular communication issues. Naturally he blew them away with is rendition of SOS. By the time he performed the second show for Opera 2....he required a bodyguard from his hotel. His life story is fascinating. Obviously his genes, years of training, determination, perserverance....and talent have made him very special. Enjoy your journey with Dimash.

Hey Matthew, I really enjoyed your reaction (SOS and Opera2), probably because you are not only a performer -- but someone who is captured by musical excellence. Its also good to see someone from the Country Western world react so positively. I used to live in Texas and Kansas so I'm not knocking the genre. Good music is good music. On youtube a seasoned Irish singer's reaction was to shed a few tears without shame. I love it when skilled singers/teachers educate you to how hard it is for anyone to do what Dimash does with his music. And that Dimash's performance is the result of years of hard work. All this to say...I think you would enjoy watching and listening to the Chinese TV show "Singer 2017" episodes 1 through 14. You may not have the time but I found most of the episodes have subtitles (in various languages) which made it the Singer 2017 all the more enjoyable. Sandy Lam the winner of that years contestants is a veteran of the music business. She won (in my opinion) because as a performer and producer and made better song choices with respect to the audience. Also, Dimash was sick for one episode (which in a week to week talent show has an effect on you for at least another week). Sandy Lam also had a number of albums from which to draw songs from that possibly still connected with people. A side note --- the Singer TV program has a weird format where they drop singers whom the audience don't support and bring in both older contestants from previous years and other successful performers. The results seem to bring in a larger TV viewing audience but it misses the opportunity to see the top acts rehearse or talk about their craft. If you are interested in the Singer 2017 episodes I recommend you look at the Wiki Singer 2017.
Dimash did win the first episode with S.O.S. The studio audience judges. Whoever collects the most wins carries the contest. The reason Dimash didn't win overall is that all the contestants were established professionals. Fans will often stay loyal in the face of proof that their idol is not the best. Like American Idol, Dimash (2nd place) was still the true winner because he was the wild card, foreign performer, and The Singer turned him into a Super Star. If The Singer didn't post to CZcams, his success wouldn't have reached the rest of the world, though it's possible to be a huge success with just China, Kazakhstan, and Russia behind you. You can search Sandy Lam and Singer 2017 to see her. She was the woman in the Green Room at 6:00 on your tape. Yes, that was Dimash's father in the audience. Dimash didn't know he was there till he spotted him when taking bows.
While Dimash didn't win The Singer 2017, China -- he did express how much he learned from both the show and with the help of the other performers. While looking back, it would be obvious that he "should have won"; there are some important factors to remember when it came to the final tally of points.
This was one of the first years an 'Outsider' [performer not from China] was brought in for a wildcard spot. The show is made up from well known [in China] performers, so they already had a huge fanbase with the audience (until he sang, Dimash wasn't expected to go very far by the audience -- of course that changed after his first song).
It's the studio audience that votes and ranks their favorite singer from each round, and the total points and scores are accumulated throughout the show (as long as they don't lose the round). It was extremely close, but a critical thing to remember is that culturally [pride], the audience would not normally have an outside competitor winning the top title [overall winner] -- although even until the end it was too close to determine if that normal competitive position would still hold true because Dimash had won over the China audience. In fact, even during The Singer competition, he started winning separate National Awards from the music industry in China.
Even though he didn't win the overall show (close, but total points just missed out), the audience responded so favorably to the diversity of bringing in foreign competitors, that it became more accepted, and a foreign performer was able to win thanks to the groundwork Dimash had accomplished. It was also in recognition of how great a talent Dimash was, the production brought him back as a Guest Celebrity Singer on future seasons. He has also sung with many of the performers (from his first season) at his own concerts, as well as at other prestigious special events.
There was never even a hint of disappointment or bitterness from Dimash... he still comments about how performing on that show with all the other performers was one of the best learning experiences he had. He's incredibly humble, and the Grand Prize has never really been his goal -- sharing his music, talent, and Culture has been what drives him

Dear Mat, Dimash did not loose, he did place no 2 which was a sensation for the following reaons: The Singer is a Chinese show where particpants are invited only upon invitation, i.e. they ARE already famous. One of the directors had discovered Dimash and they made an experiment of asking a foreigner, plus being the youngest person participating (he was 22) to join with a 'wild card'. .... and they LOVED him, i.e. the audience (consisting of 500 selected people) AND his competitors! Overnight, D. was a star who needed bodyguards whereever he went. He got 600 million of clicks on WIBO, the Chinese kind of Instagram. First place was a highly-talented renowned lady named Sandy Lam. Rumour says this was done because it has to be a Chinese who wins, but check it out, the woman is phenomenal. So were the majority of the other competitors. China has an extremely high standard of trained singers, you would not believe it. Rapper Victor Ma (duet with Dimash which blows your mind), Terry Lin, fantastic singer and now very good friend of Dimash. Interesting backstories to dig out.... and songs, of course! Dimash has lived in China for the last 3 years, produced approx. 100 songs, and did 10 soundtracks for movies, video games etc. Cheers and peace, Melitta from Vienna!

Anyone who appreciates Dimash is OK by me and I love how excited you get over his performances. You are correct about him getting better and better every time a new song comes out. I don't know how he does it but it is such a pleasure to hear him.
