Dry humor fest! Grant and Colbert are perfect for not having an audience and being punctuated or interrupted by laughter and applause!
Except that Colbert constantly interrupts him.
@@g-man8705 the willy-washing bit was drowned out, indeed.
Hugh Grant is uniquely adorable !
Love Hugh and his dry British humour. His interviews are always hilariously awkward AF.
Awkward for sure. He clearly was not comfortable and was happy for it to be over.
Love him
@@hattielott7420 I don't find this with any other Brit that I can think of. Just Hugh. Haha. Looong pauses, relatively short answers, clear self-consciousness at being interviewed. He's said before that he doesn't like being interviewed.
@@lisazdvoru1660 nah, he was just leaning into the sardonic dry humour thing
His romcoms were also hilariously awkward.
I so didn’t expect the barbie story!
Hugh Grant, the quintessentially British gentleman. 😍 Such an accomplished actor, whose abilities have all too often been overlooked because he is so charming and gorgeous. His manner is whimsically self-deprecating and his smart, dry, sense of humour an entertaining delight. I have great affection and respect for him. 😊💕❤️
Thumbs up from Cape Town!
Also, one of my favourites is Sense and Sensibility, an adaptation of Jane Austin's novel. It didn't get much attention when it was released a while ago, but he was as always, lovely. Him and Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet. Catch it if you can.
Also The great Alan Rickman. God I miss him!
Overly crafted so I'd love to know how many drafts before you decided to hit 'Comment.' You can tell us.
I loved Nine Months. So funny.

Hugh Grant is a sarcastic gentleman, and I am living for it! XD
Actually, it's a form of self-deprecation. Have seen him on TV in the UK a number of times, and he always comes across as a man who doesn't take himself too seriously. And I think that reflects outward, too.

"It's supposed be only essential shops but every shop seems to think that it is, in fact, essential" LOL!!!
During NYC's lockdown, the liquor stores were, officially, essential.
@@jpdemer5 It actually makes sense to have liquor stores open to an extent. I know every state has different liquor laws in general, I'm not sure how ny operates. Michigan you can buy liquor at any grocery store. Virginia you can only buy beer and wine at the grocery but you have to go to a specific place for liquor.
That being said someone who is a horrible alcoholic can die if they go without alcohol and aren't under supervision of medical professionals.
But there were so many businesses considered essential and they shouldn't be.
As a Brit I am dying at how dry Hugh's humour is and Stephen, God love him, is not picking it up at all. 😂
Yup. I cringed a bit 😬
Brit humor is so beyond us Americans.
As a Yank, I must remind you that Stephen Colbert, God love him, descends from deep red-state hellhole South Carolina.
He’s had to overcome A LOT...
I’m also shocked that America doesn’t have Gogglebox!
Sometimes it seems people call dry humor to jokes that don't land. It's like dancing to a different song than the one playing and calling it a dry dancing style
As an Englishman one of the funniest moments for me was hearing Hugh put on a Yorkshire accent (where I live) when impersonating folks from Gogglebox. So incongruous coming out of his mouth. "Ah bet 'e didn't wash 'is Willy afterwards" Hilarious!
I love that I could tell exactly who he was impersonating with the ‘dirty dog’ line (granted I’m not from the area, but it was quite impressive).

@@beverlystraus9300 yes! Made in 1999. Wow! We were so different then!
Me, too. Possibly the funniest scene of the film.
I love Hugh. He's funny and very smart and not afraid to laugh at himself either.
You see, if this interview had been in the old format in front of a live audience it would have been dud city. Too impersonal. But looking into both your faces while you talk brings us more into a close, personal space - so that even when you aren't saying shit it still seems like a nice conversation. The one-on-one fireside chat set-up is the most ideal for Stephen Colbert.
@Couch Potato Yeah, I understand. In my own viewing experience with the regular talk show format I was often frustrated because Stephen's face always seemed in profile and sometimes seemingly expressionless when talking to a guest. Distant. Sometimes it looked like bad chemistry with the guest even if it really wasn't. (I was really disappointed with the Bill Maher interview last March, who, btw, is the flipside: he thrives in front of an audience and languishes in the lockdown one-on-one set-up). This interview with Hugh Grant - who I DO like - was pretty humdrum, beyond his description of his COVID experience and that clip of what looked like an awesome performance. Otherwise, it was blathering. Except - and this is my point...I enjoyed the blathering! It was hollow. I didn't give a shit about the piddling content. Yet, I enjoyed the friendliness between them. I didn't switch channels like I would have in the "old days", because there was a warmth coming across. That's my take on it. If I were producer on Stephen's show I'd try to keep it this way after COVID ends.
Lol Hugh Grant will never lose his charming, but slightly perverted persona.
He is a naughty boy, entering his 60s, but still very much a naughty boy
The fact that my 19-year-old daughter knows him and the Divine Brown story makes me laugh.

He’s so hilarious and charismatic.
Oh go one admit it you have a crush 😁
I still say - unironically - that his best role was in Paddington 2. That was an amazing movie.
Have you seen "A Very English Scandal"? He is brilliant in that.

@@ZsaZsaUmbra Oh yes. I saw it the same day I saw Infinity War. Was the perfect balm after the emotional punch that was IW.
Hugh's humor going RIGHT over Stehen's head.....I love it.
Noooo, I think Stephen gets it.
Mr. Colbert is a nuanced southern gent.
Suzanne Millius The only joke Stephen didn't get was the "dozen children". But I also had this feeling he was trying to steer the conversation away from topics that would enrage the censors. This is still network television after all. And let's face it, Hugh Grant will say whatever he damn well pleases. It's why we love him.
His best role to date, for me, is as Fletcher in 'The Gentlemen'.
Why? Because he's a scumbag. His revelry in that role was masterful.
Four Weddings and any of his rom-com roles are brilliant, of course. But Hugh as the character you're supposed to despise? A transcendent performance.
Phoenix Buchanan, c'mon! Who else could get away with a pink prison uniform and signing "Rain on the Roof" in full Busby Berkelyesque fashion?
Gotta agree. Never saw the other movies as they just seemed boring. But as Fletcher he's so very different and I love it. I kind of see him differently now in The Undoing as well.
A much better actor than I ever suspected him to be.
His villain in Paddington 2 is brilliant and well (that's actually a great movie btw no matter your age - one of the best movies I've seen in recent years. Highly recommend.)
Hugh Grant will always be hot.
Well said, I agree he's hot!
Always
I used to think these guys were more of the tastes of my mum's generation (mine LOVES Bridget Jones' Diary) but damn, I'm almost 30 and I think Hugh is such a DILF. Much like Jeff Goldblum, age fits him.
