Anyone knows that statement was most likely written by his publicist. It’s so disingenuous to apologize to the ACTUAL victim after the dust settles. He felt like he needed to defend his family when they were in no imminent danger yet it was a joke that cut like a knife to him!
I’ve admired Will’s journey because it felt like watching a big bro achieve the impossible however his behavior was utterly disgusting.
The rage on his face during that tirade was almost demonic😳like he was possessed! He’s saving face for fear of being banned from the Academy or losing his Oscar… or both! Will is like that family member or person you know who pretends it’s all good when it’s really a shit show. I wish he’d find inner peace and leave what seems to be a tumultuous situation that’s left him in this sunken place. He has the talent, money, fame, recognition and family but he looks like a broken man… and Chris just happened to be on the receiving end of that rage!

I really liked Will Smith, but his acceptace speach just sounded like a huge excuse and manipulative to me. Chris Rock was slapped on the stage of a live award show. In Hollywood like Will Smith said, sometime you have to laugh things off with a smile because of the abuse you have to take.
I don't think that was abuse. I believe that this was personal and both are responsible. I feel that great comedians like Richard Pryor didn't have to attack people in the crowd.

I haven't sorted out precisely why I feel this way, but I can report that Smith's assault was painful to me as a Black man.
    - Perhaps it's because it's the kind of behavior I would never engage in.
    - Maybe it's the fact that being Black includes an involuntary commitment to a lifelong experience of violence. Now and historically. In word and deed.
    - Or, because I love Chris Rock; he's brought us sorely needed laughs. He's a genius comedian and was just doing his job.
    - I hate bullies.
    - It was intended to humiliate and embarrass a good man.
    - That the attack was doing so out of ego-infused thuggery -- and as anyone who has spent time in a Black community or watched a music video knows, those are traits that are helping to weigh down Black people.
    So, what about solutions?
There are none. We can only slow the disease's progression. Violent adult children are here to stay, especially in a community that has been maimed by racism and slavery.
We can only appeal to the "talented tenth" among Black people -- the successful, influential and important people, I ask: Refrain from standing in front of cameras and opining that Smith was justified. You compound the problem.
Given its legacy of racism, the Academy is not the entity that will redress Smith's assault. They won't, and for that we should at least respect their consistency. The police won’t do anything, with or without Chris’s involvement.
    Who then?
It's us. We're the adults who police and reinforce civilized behavior. Either we speak out against Black-on-Black crime, or we choose to be part of it.
And to be clear, life did not imitate art, as Smith mentioned in his speech. In fact, he owes the Williams family an apology. Richard Williams was not a thug. He was a committed father and man of God who dreamed and worked “big.” He was disrespected by the tennis aristocracy but he fervently believed in his daughters. The comparison of Richard William’s life to Smith’s thuggish behavior is offensive.

After Chris got smacked he could have been cursing inside with anger because it happened in front millions of people. Chris Rock gave himself that smack.
People want the say Chris handle it like a "G" but he was the one kick it off.
If he had not said that, Will wouldn't have smack his ass. I'm not saying Will was right, I think those two had or have beefs against one another.
I think Will Smith is more embarrassed than Chris Rock, but now Chris is going to think twice now before he attack someone. He attack Jada in 2016 so this was some ways personal.
And what people are talking about is that he was laughing. Was that really a laugh? We have to understand that these are actors. Will Smith laugh probably wasn't even real. But to you and I it seems very real.
In Hollywood like Will Smith said, sometime you have to laugh things off with a smile because of the abuse you have to take.
I don't think that was abuse. I believe that this was personal and both are responsible. I feel that great comedians like Richard Pryor didn't have to attack people in the crowd.
I think the reason why the Academy have these comedians host the Oscars to relieve pressure and Will Smith didn't take it that well

They shouldn’t do long prison time because they felt like Will. Jada is an emotional bully and Will succumbed.
Everyone forgets this happens all of the time on award shows. Michael J Fox has MS and comedians joked about his shaking. He even joked about it later. There’s likely more. Anyone could have written that in his name. He needs to be the big man than he seems to think he is and offer an apology that is unscripted and where everyone can see his lips moving. I wasn't a big fan of his movies because of his bravado, but I am truly disgusted. Don't even want to look at his fakeness. He needs to get help and do something about that whining, toxic and attention seeking wife of his. Sorry to say, but his kids need help too. This is what power and a sense of entitlement gets you. Oh and this is Karma baby. He joked and made Aunt Viv on the Fresh Prince of Bel Aire a living hell, ultimately getting her fired. Chris Rock's joke was harmless, especially in light of the fact he had no idea Jada suffered from Alopecia. Most people including myself had no idea either. She's not that big of a name for most of America to follow or care about. The Smith family need to get over themselves and work on themselves. Chris Rock has nothing to apologize for.
I have heard on a couple of different social media platforms, one being rolling S. Martin, that Chris Rock should apologize. Someone on the panel said that Chris Rock should apologize after they heard that Will Smith apologized.
I think that is total b*******. Chris Rock has nothing to apologize for. He was simply doing his job. He is a comedian. The Oscars hired him knowing that he is a comedian, and that he tells jokes. Will Smith knows that he is a comedian, and he tells jokes. Not only that, but if Will Smith, and his family doesn't want to be talked about, then they should not put their business on the streets...

Nothing was done to him or anyone said anything to him. Where was the security guards at? I lost my respect for Jada Pinkett after she showed the world that she is a cheating where. How or why Will gonna defend her honor after Chris told that G.I. Jane joke. Have anybody watch Everybody Hates Chris? I also lost my respect for Will Smith slapping someone who is smaller than he is. He slapped Chris on national TV before millions of viewers and apologized to everyone but Chris on national TV. Plus the fact that Will didn't have the balls to apologized to Chris on national TV and live in person. That so call apology on social media was very lame.
